Hayes-Davis' double-double lands him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
actionPhoto

28-year old forward Nigel Hayes-Davis (203-F-1994) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Fenerbahce and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 23.
He had a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat ALBA (#18, 6-17) 101-86. Fenerbahce is placed at 4th position in Euroleague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Fenerbahce will need more victories to improve their 14-9 record. In the team's last game Hayes-Davis had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Nigel Hayes-Davis averages this season 9.9ppg.

Second best performed player last round was Mario Hezonja (202-SF-1995) of league's second-best Real Madrid. He is Croatian in his first season at Real Madrid. In the last game Hezonja recorded impressive 30 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. It was enough for Real Madrid to edge the lower-ranked Monaco (#5, 14-9) by 4 points 95-91. Real Madrid's second position in the standings has not changed. His team's 16-7 record is not bad at all. Hezonja is a newcomer at Real Madrid and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Bonzie Colson Jr. (198-PF-1996, agency: Octagon Europe) of M.Tel-Aviv (#7). Colson Jr. scored 17 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of M.Tel-Aviv, leading his team to a 94-93 win against Valencia (12-11). M.Tel-Aviv needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 12 victories and 11 lost games. Colson Jr. has a very solid season. In 23 games in Euroleague he scored 10.6ppg. He also has 5.3rpg and FGP: 59.1%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mike James (185-G-1990) of Monaco - 23 points and 7 assists
5. Jared Harper (180-PG-1997) of Valencia - 20 points and 3 assists
6. Derrick Williams (203-F-1991) of Panathinaikos - 19 points and 5 rebounds
7. Gabriel Deck (198-F-1995) of Real Madrid - 13 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-F-1995) of Olympiacos - 23 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Paris Lee (183-G-1995) of Panathinaikos - 16 points, 2 rebounds and 8 assists
10. Nando De Colo (196-G-1987) of ASVEL - 15 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

EYBL U17
EYBL U17 round 14 best performance: Karlis Vavers - by Eurobasket News
Forward Karlis Vavers (196-F-2006) had a great game in the last round for top-ranked DSN Riga, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 14.
The 16-year old player had a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Ridzene (#18, 4-5) 61-49. It allowed DSN Riga to take over top position in the EYBL U17. DSN Riga have a solid 8-1 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Vavers as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Karlis Vavers averages this season 7.4ppg and 8.1rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Maros Golian (202-PF-2007) of Inter B.. Golian had a very good evening with a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. Bad luck as Inter B. lost that game 52-81 to the higher-ranked Istanbul (#26, 3-2). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Inter B. dropped in the standings to 42th position. 4 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Inter B. managed to get this year. Golian is well-known at Inter B. and is a proven leader in his second season with the team.

Third on the list of top players last round was Emre Cetinkol of Istanbul (#26). Cetinkol showcased his all-around game by recording 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the last round. He was a key player of Istanbul, leading his team to a 81-52 easy win against the lower-ranked Inter B. (#42, 1-4). Istanbul needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 3 victories and 2 lost games. Cetinkol has a great season in EYBL U17. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.2rpg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Airidas Petraitis) of SKM - 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
5. David Orbulescu (181-G-2006) of Stiinta - 17 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Alexander Jilev (2006) of Balkan - 18 points and 6 rebounds
7. Maksym Ishchenko) of Vilniaus KM - 18 points and 4 rebounds
8. Matas Motiejaitis) of Zalgiris - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Kristers Skrinda (200-F-2006) of DSN Riga - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Martins Kilups (185-PG-2006) of Liepaja - 26 points and 4 rebounds

The Dragons Rhondorf Have A Hot Goodman Destroying BBG Herford 108-63 - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber
Even if the win in Cologne against the RheinStars was a big highlight in 2023 for the Dragons Rhondorf, one has to admit that so far the new year hasn't been good to them. They had lost 3 of 4 games including the last 3 games in their Dragon Dome living room. It was time to get on the winning road again mainly because they had to be careful not to slip away from the home court in the playoffs. Getting that next win looked a lot better as the 9-7 Dragons had to meet the 2-14 Herford team who they had beaten on the road 103-82 back in October. But a lot had had happened since then as American Herman Hightower had to depart while they got new players Shawn Gulley and Filmore Beck all top Pro B players over the years and American rookie Jordan Mello-Klein. It was also the third game and second in the Dragon Dome for new player Mubarek Salami who had been the Pro B top scorer the last 2 years. The Dragons Rhondorf didn't disappoint any of the faithful fans as they demonstrated an offensive attack for 40 minutes easily dismantling the hapless BBG Herford 108-63. Top Pro B point guard Devon Goodman (184-PG-1997, college: Pennsylvania) who has had big games on the road, but was still looking for a top game in his own living room had his home break out game scoring 23 points and dishing out 12 assists. 'We stuck to our identity for the most part pushing the ball and playing at a fast pace for 40 minutes. When we can do that for 40 minutes then it is hard to beat us. We played good defense. We knew that they liked isolation so we took care of our 1-1 assignments', stressed Dragons guard Devon Goodman. The guests played pick up ball from the get go and could never find a sound offensive rhythm and couldn't match the intensity of Rhondorf at both ends of the court. 'We had a lack of effort for 40 minutes. They came out strong. We couldn't respond and the game got away from us through their good playmaking and shooting', stressed BBG Herford guard Jordan Mello-Klein.

The game was tight for the first few minutes, but it didn't take the Dragons Rhondorf long to get their offensive rhythm and get a big lead and never lose it again. Ex easyCredit BBL player Florian Koch got the Dragons on the board first with a lay in, but BBG Herford found some offensive spark using cutters to get easy baskets as Germans Alexander Winck and Shawn Gulley scored for the 4-2 advantage. But the Dragons Rhondorf then got going jumping all over the guests going on a 28-9 run to lead very comfortably 30-13 after 10 minutes. Ex Ivy League champion Devon Goodman was hungry and wanted that first great game and scored 7 unanswered points as his quickness gave him 2 easy buckets and he also tested his 30% three point shooting for the Dragons 9-5 advantage. Rhondorf kept up the pressure on offense playing their fast paced game attacking the rim and getting easy baskets as Herford couldn't offer any pressure on 1-1 play. Ex Pro B top scorer Mubarek Salami scored twice inside while Florian Wendeler and Baby Zion Zaba Bangala scored twice and Nicolas Buchholz dropped a trey for the 23-10 lead. Rhondorf had an identity on defense playing good 1-1 defense and having good help defense in the paint. Rhondorf kept attacking the paint and got another Salami lay in and two more lay ins from Goodman who finished with 11 points including one at the buzzer. 'I wanted to start well being aggressive. I kept pushing the ball and trying to get to the rim and while I was covered found my shooters with kick outs', stressed Devon Goodman. The Dragons Rhondorf were shooting the lights out at 76% from the field and 67% from outside and had 10 rebounds and 4 turnovers while BBG Herford shot 29% form the field and 11% form outside and had 5 rebounds and 6 turnovers.

In the second quarter the Dragons Rhondorf continued to execute very well at both ends thus keeping the giant lead and leading by 25 points at half-time. Both teams were trading baskets at the start as BBG Herford received 5 points from Shawn Gulley as on his three, he got a friendly basketball God bounce and Mello-Klein also scored inside while the Dragons got support from Koch and Goodman and still led 37-20. But the Dragons Rhondorf then made a new jump in the game going on a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 47-20. The Dragons got three's from Koch and Buchholz and lay in's by German role players ex Coburg forward Adrian Bergmann and ex RheinStar center Florian Wendeler. Rhondorf was beautifully sharing the ball and playing unselfish the complete opposite to the guests who relied most on isolation play. The Dragons packed the paint well and allowed nothing simple. The guests got some baskets from Klein-Mello and ex Missouri (NCAA) forward Vaidotas Volkus, but Rhondorf simply executed with ease continuing to get great production from Goodmann with 2 buckets and Zaba Bangala scored 5 points. Ex Rhondorf guard Marc Klesper added free throws and Gulley a lay in before the siren, but the Dragons Rhondorf continued to have the commanding 56-31 lead. The Dragons Rhondorf continued to shoot very well at 64% from the field and 38% from the three point line and had 19 rebounds and 7 turnovers while BBG Herford shot 36% from the field and 17% from the three point line and had 14 rebounds and 11 turnovers. 'We attacked well on the pick and roll and our wings attacked the close outs well', stated Devon Goodman.

In the third quarter there was no let up by the Dragons Rhondorf as they continued to play their game and run their plays and execute with success. The Dragons received early buckets from Bangala, a trey by Buchholz and a lay in by Goodman while the guests got baskets from Klein-Mello and a cold Filmore Beck who only scored 8 points on 1/8 shooting, but Rhondorf still led 66-43. The guests had their little spurts of offense as Winck and Klein-Mello scored, but they could never ring up consecutive stops on defense as their intensity and 1-1 defense just wasn't up to par. It was no secret that ex Pro B leading, scorer Mubarek Salami wouldn't be averaging 20 plus points in Rhondorf and he showed that he knows exactly when to score and when to distribute. His attacking or dishing on the drive kept the guests guessing all night long. Plus it was refreshing to see how well Salami and Goodman harmonize on the court. 'It is weird playing against him this season and now being teammates. He is a big guard and we bounce each other out on the court. He does a great job of getting in the lane. Our chemistry will continue to build as zo play with and off each other', stated Devon Goodman. The Dragons Rhondorf closed out the third quarter with a lethal 7-0 run to lead 77-49 after 30 minutes. The Dragons got production from Buchholz with another trey and Koch and Bergmann contributed lay in's. 'We continued to keep up our pace. We have had problems not being able to close out games. We usually let up in the second half, but tonight we stuck to our principles', stressed Devon Goodman. 'We tried to keep up the aggression. We tried to push the tempo and trap them in screens, but when your down 23 points, you need a lot of effort to come back, but we didn't have that', added Jordan Klein-Mello. The Dragons Rhondorf shot 62% from the field and 40% from the parking lot and had 29 rebounds and 15 turnovers while BBG Herford shot 34% from the field and 18% from the parking lot and had 18 rebounds and 15 turnovers.

In the fourth quarter the Dragons Rhondorf put the lid on the coffin scoring 31 points as BBG Herford caved in. The Dragons Rhondorf didn't waste anytime to slam the door on BBG Herford going on a explosive 16-4 run to lead 93-53. In the run the Dragons Rhondorf continued to share the ball well and play beautiful inside out basketball. Rhondorf got three scores inside as Bangala scored over a wall of 2 players, Bergmann scored and Koch hit on transition while Buchholz nailed 2 more trey's and Salami also hit from outside. The Dragons closed out the game well, but the guests also scored better. Rhondorf got free throws from Salami and Bergmann and Florian Koch hit the magical 100 point mark with a trey and had a date with the donut shop for his teammates. Rhondorf got some added free throws from Goodman down the stretch and a left handed lay in from Koch while the guests got some garbage points from young German Leo Alban who made a pretty floater and hard 1 handed dunk. 'Leo is young and long. He needs to play with urgency. He will be good if he keeps working', warned Jordan Klein-Mello. 'We didn't think about reaching the 100 points, but just kept playing our game. We never slowed down and played hard until the end', warned Devon Goodman. 'We continued to chip away, but we used so much energy and couldn't come back. We got impatient and took quick shots. All those things lead to lose by 45 points', stressed Jordan Mello-Klein. The Dragons Rhondorf had 6 guys score in double figures and were led by Nicolas Buchholz with 24 points. Devon Goodman added 23 points and 12 dimes while Florian Koch added 19 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and Zaba Bangala had 14 points and 10 boards. The BBG Herford were led by Shawn Gulley with 16 points and Jordan Mello-Klein had 13 points and Vaidotas Volkus added 10 points. The Dragons Rhondorf shot 61% from the field and 48% from outside and had 43 rebounds and 19 turnovers while BBG Herford shot 32% from the field and 14% from outside and had 24 rebounds and 18 turnovers.

Slingers show fighting spirit in a two point loss against Hong Kong Eastern - by Eurobasket News
After an evenly fought first quarter where both teams struggled to take control it was the high-octane Hong Kong Eastern team who couldn't seem to miss a shot that broke open the second quarter racing to a 16 point lead. But the Slingers would not go away on this night. They stiffened their defense in the second half after giving up a 50 point first half and restricted Hong Kong to just 15 points in the third quarter. The Slingers took a brief lead before a somewhat fortunate bank shot saw the Hong Kong side take a 1 point lead into the final break. In a back and forth final quarter Hong Kong again pushed their lead back to 9 point but the Slingers kept their heads down pushing the Hong Kong Eastern team all the way to a thrilling finsih. The game almost went to overtime but crucial misses from the charity stripe ended up being the Slingers downfall on this night, dropping a heartbreaker 83-85. Kentrell Barkley (195-G/F-1996, college: ECU, agency: Haylett Sports)'s six steals were instrumental in the Slingers' push to level the game. C.J. Gettys (213-C-1994, college: Rutgers, agency: Haylett Sports)' pulled in some key rebounds finishing with 10. Kentrell Barkley recorded yet another 20+-point performance after finishing with 26 while C.J. Gettys booked another double-double performance with his 22 points pairing up with his 10 rebounds. Locals Delvin Goh and Kelvin Lim also put up some decent numbers during the Slingers' comeback with Goh scoring eight, gathering five boards and dishing out four assists while Lim scored four crucial points towards the final minutes of the game. Xavier Alexander (196-F-1988, college: S.Nazarene) finished with 20 points, 3 rebs and 3 assists while grabbing a key steal in the Slingers late charge in the final quarter. The Slingers, despite the loss, remained in fourth spot with 5 wins and 4 losses,, and are still in the running for the playoffs. Up next for the Slingers is another rubber match, this time, against the Macau Black Bears on Monday night at 6pm. The Slingers, Macau & Zamboango are all locked in a battle for a playoff spot.

34-year old Jarrid Famous (209-C/F-1988, agency: BIG) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for NSH and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 13.
He had the game-high 25 points adding six rebounds for NSH as his team was edged out by Hangtuah (#10, 2-5) 69-65. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. NSH maintains the 14th position in Indonesian league. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 6 games and recorded just one victory. In the team's last game Famous had a remarkable 69.2% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at NSH, being already a very valuable addition to the team. University of South Florida graduate has very impressive stats this year. Famous is in league's top in points (6th best: 19.4ppg), rebounds (8th best: 9.0rpg) and averages solid 52.6% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Dame Diagne (197-PF-2005) of Indonesia P.. He is international forward in his second season at Indonesia P.. In the last game Diagne recorded impressive double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Of course he led Indonesia P. to another comfortable win outscoring the higher-ranked Bima Perkasa (#5, 5-1) 82-57. This victory allowed Indonesia P. to move up to 8th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-4 record. Diagne is well-known at Indonesia P. and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders.

Third place about best performers goes to center Morakinyo Williams (209-C-1988) of Pacific Caesar (#13). Williams showcased his all-around game by recording 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Williams' great performance Pacific Caesar lost 90-101 to the league's current leader Satria Muda (#1, 7-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Pacific Caesar can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-5 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Williams has individually a great season in Indonesia. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.7ppg (8th best), rebounds with 12.0rpg (#1 in league) and assists with 1.5apg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Muhamad Aziz (186-G-1996) of Satria Muda - 24 points and 3 rebounds
5. Cameron Coleman (198-SF-1992) of Bima Perkasa - 17 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Emmanuel Malou (206-F/C-1993) of Hangtuah - 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Muhamad Arighi (182-G-1999) of Pelita Jaya - 19 points and 6 rebounds
8. Muhammad Ariezky (185-G-1997) of Pacific Caesar - 21 points and 3 assists
9. Dominique Sutton (193-G/F-1986) of Pelita Jaya - 11 points and 9 rebounds
10. Anthony Beane (188-G-1994) of Indonesia P. - 22 points and 4 assists

National League Round 17 of Regular Season - by Eurobasket News
Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

National League round 17 most important game was a victory of M.Raanana over 6th ranked I.Nahariya 79-73 on Tuesday night. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when M.Raanana made 7 blocks. American swingman Jason Siggers (194-1985, college: Albany, agency: Avi Zilberman) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized American Willy Workman (198-1990, college: Amherst) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Romello White (203-1998, college: Ole Miss) answered with 18 points and 8 rebounds for I.Nahariya. I.Nahariya's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. M.Raanana (11-6) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with M.Rishon. I.Nahariya at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with M.Ma'ale Adum.. M.Raanana is looking forward to face E.Shomron (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. I.Nahariya will play against M.Haifa (#9) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked E.Netanya (12-7) against tenth ranked Ramat Hash. (8-10) on Friday night. Visiting E.Netanya was defeated by Ramat Hash. in a tough game in Ramat Hasharon 76-81. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of E.Netanya. American point guard Diante Watkins (175-1990, college: RMU) stepped up and scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Tyler Wideman chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds. American-Nigerian Al-Wajid Aminu (201-1998, college: UNF) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ramat Hash. maintains tenth place with 8-10 record. E.Netanya at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. Ramat Hash. will again play against higher ranked E.Netanya (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. E.Netanya will have a break next round.
An interesting game for H.Afula (13-4) which played road game in Rishon Le-Zion against 3rd placed Maccabi Rishon (11-6). First ranked H.Afula managed to get a 6-point victory 68-62. Jimmy Hall nailed 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Jawun Evans came up with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for Maccabi Rishon in the defeat. Bottom-ranked H.Hevel Modi'in unfortunately lost to M.Ramat Gan in a road game 76-90. E.Netanya rolled over M.Haifa at home 97-66. M.Rehovot defeated E.Shomron on the opponent's court 87-83.

29-year old Giulio Casagrande (197-SF-1993) put on an amazing game in the last round for Fiorenzuola and receives a Hoops Agents Serie B Player of the Week award for round 17.
He had the game-high 28 points adding six rebounds and nine assists for Fiorenzuola in his team's victory, helping them to beat Empoli (#16, 2-15) 97-87. Fiorenzuola is placed at 4th position in Italian Serie B. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Fiorenzuola will need more victories to improve their 10-7 record. In the team's last game Casagrande had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Fiorenzuola's top player in his first season with the team. Giulio Casagrande averages this season 12.1ppg.

LeBron James 36 Points Away From NBA Scoring Record, Lakers Fall to Pelicans 131-126 - by Eurobasket News
LeBron James (6'8''-SF-1984) moved 36 points away from breaking the NBA career scoring record in the Los Angeles Lakers' 131-126 loss to New Orleans on Saturday night that ended the Pelicans' losing streak at 10 games. James had 27 points to go with nine rebounds and six assists as he continued to close in on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record total of 38,387 points. Brandon Ingram (6'9''-SF-1997, college: Duke) scored 35 points for the Pelicans. CJ McCollum (6'4''-G-1991, college: Lehigh) had 23 points, highlighted by a late 3 to help New Orleans close out the final 3:14 on a 9-5 run that kept the Lakers at bay. Anthony Davis had 34 points and 14 rebounds for the Lakers. They led by 12 when James' finger role made it 84-72 in the third quarter. The Pelicans chipped away and closed the period with five quick points on McCollum's transition floater and Jose Alvarado's 3 after he caught a deflected inbound pass. That sequence cut the Lakers' advantage to 106-103, and New Orleans surged into the lead when Trey Murphy III (6'9''-F-2000, college: Virginia) hit back-to-back 3s, the second from 27 feet, to make it 114-108. The game remained tight after that but the Pelicans didn't allow Los Angeles to regain the lead. Murphy finished with 21 points and Alvarado had 18. Jonas Valanciunas (7'0''-C-1992) had 18 points and 14 rebounds for New Orleans but left late in the third quarter with a right knee injury and did not return. Davis scored 18 of his points in the first half, when the Lakers shot 55.1%, including 6 of 15 from deep, and opened up a double-digit lead. The Pelicans briefly closed to 61-56 when Ingram, who had 16 first-half points, hit a driving floater off the glass while being fouled by Troy Brown Jr. The Lakers then closed the second quarter on an 11-5 run. James and Westbrook each hit layups during the stint. Davis added a turnaround hook and Schroder's 3 than went down after a high bounce off the back rim in the final seconds, giving Los Angeles a 72-61 lead at the break.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (6'11''-F-1994, agency: Octagon Europe) had a triple-double with 35 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the short-handed Miami Heat 123-115 on Saturday night for their seventh straight victory. Jimmy Butler (6'7''-G/F-1989, college: Marquette) scored 32 points and Tyler Herro added 24 for the Heat, who had just nine available players. Notable injured Miami players included Kyle Lowry (6'0''-PG-1986, college: Villanova) (sore left knee) and Victor Oladipo (6'4''-G-1992, college: Indiana) (sprained right ankle). The two-time MVP had 26 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in a victory at Minnesota on Nov. 4. He had 30 points, 21 and 10 assists in an overtime win at Toronto on Jan. 4. Antetokounmpo's latest triple-double came two nights after he scored 54 points in a 106-105 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. During the Bucks' six-game winning streak, Antetokounmpo is averaging 39.4 points, 14.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Khris Middleton (6'8''-SF-1991, college: Texas A&M) added 24 points, Grayson Allen (6'5''-G-1995, college: Duke) 19, Jrue Holiday (6'4''-G-1990, college: UCLA) 15 and Pat Connaughton 14. Miami's Gabe Vincent (6'3''-G-1996, college: UCSB) had a career-high 28 points in one of the Heat's victories over the Bucks and 27 in the other. Vincent had just seven points Saturday, The Heat trailed throughout the first half until Herro sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie it at 62l at the break. Miami missed 12 of its first 13 3-point attempts and was just 5 of 20 from beyond the arc, but the Heat stayed close by committing just one first-half turnover.

Bridges scores 25, leads Suns to 106-94 win over Celtics - by Eurobasket News
Devin Booker (6'6''-SG-1996, college: Kentucky) wore a hockey toque to deal with the sub-zero temperatures in Boston and pulled out a baseball metaphor to describe his possible return to the basketball court. ''Rounding third,'' Booker said after watching from the bench as his Phoenix Suns teammates beat the Celtics 106-94 on Friday night. Mikal Bridges (6'6''-G/F-1996, college: Villanova) scored 25 points and Dario Saric had 14 with 13 rebounds Friday night to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 106-94 victory over Boston and send the NBA-leading Celtics to their fourth loss in six games. Chris Paul (6'0''-PG-1985, college: Wake Forest) added 15 points, eight assists and six rebounds for Phoenix, which had a 20-point, second-quarter lead trimmed to one by the end of the third. The Suns opened the fourth with eight straight points to turn back Boston's rally. Booker, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, wore a Detroit Red Wings knit cap as he sat on the bench in the same building where he scored 70 points in 2017. He hasn't played since sustaining a groin injury on Christmas; it was just the second time he has joined the team on a road trip since. ''I'm mindful of what I say because I don't want to get everybody excited about it, or depress everybody, either. It's just where he is,'' Suns coach Monty Williams said before the game. ''We do feel like he's getting closer and closer to coming back.'' The Suns lost nine of their first 11 games after the three-time All-Star went out, but have won seven of the last nine while they wait for his return, which could come during current the five-game road trip. ''For us to win it without Book is big for everyone's confidence, because he will be back shortly,'' center Jock Landale said. ''We would have liked to win a few more games, but now that we're winning a lot of games and he's on the verge of coming back, it's big for us.'' Jaylen Brown (6'6''-G/F-1996, college: California) scored 27 points and Jayson Tatum (6'8''-F/G-1998, college: Duke) had 20 for the Celtics, who beat the Brooklyn Nets by 43 points on Wednesday and beat the Suns by 27 in December. But the two Boston All-Stars shot a combined 12 for 36 from the floor and 6 for 22 from 3-point range. The Suns led 74-73 to start the fourth quarter before running off the next eight points, prompting Boston coach Joe Mazzulla to call a timeout. Derrick White drove for a layup to snap the slump, but Damion Lee (6'5''-G-1992, college: Louisville) and Saric hit back-to-back 3s, and the Celtics never got closer than six from there. The Celtics scored the first seven points of the game, but quickly gave it all back. Phoenix scored the next 12, with Ayton putting in three straight baskets to start the run. The Suns started the second quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers by Ishmail Wainright (6'5''-F-1994, college: Baylor) and Lee - sparking another 8-0 run that helped them open a 32-20 lead. It was up to 20 points with four minutes left in the second before Tatum hit his first basket of the game - a 3-pointer - as Boston scored 11 in a row before going into the half trailing 57-44.

Young scores 27 to lead Hawks past Jazz, 115-108 - by Eurobasket News
Trae Young (6'1''-PG-1998, college: Oklahoma) had 27 points and six assists to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 115-108 victory over the Utah Jazz on Friday night. De'Andre Hunter (6'8''-F/G-1997, college: Virginia) scored 26 points for the Hawks. Onyeka Okongwu (6'9''-F/C-2000, college: USC) had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Dejounte Murray (6'4''-G-1996, college: Washington) added 13 points and eight assists. Atlanta won for the third time in its last four road games. 'I feel like winning on the road comes down to energy,' Hunter said. 'You know the crowd is going to be behind the home team, so we just rally around each other to build that energy. Once we have energy, everything else just flows.' The Hawks went to the rim early and it paid off. They had 28 assists on 44 baskets and scored 56 points in the paint. 'We have to be aggressive,' coach Nate McMillan said. 'We don't want to just sit out there and settle for the perimeter shots. I think we're creating opportunities when we're being aggressive, attacking the rim, attacking the paint.' Lauri Markkanen (7'1''-F/C-1997, college: Arizona) had 25 points and 10 rebounds to pace Utah. Jordan Clarkson (6'5''-G-1992, college: Missouri) scored 24, and Mike Conley (6'1''-PG-1987, college: Ohio St.) finished with 20 points and eight assists. Utah struggled from the outside, going 13 of 44 from 3-point range. The Jazz had a three-game home winning streak snapped. 'We did a pretty good job on the shooters all night,' Young said. 'I think that helped us.' Atlanta dominated on both ends of the court throughout the first half. The Hawks built a 60-38 lead late in the second quarter after Young bookended an 8-0 run with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws. Utah made only one 3-pointer in the first quarter and just five outside baskets by halftime. 'Those tough misses maybe affected us,' Markkanen said. 'I felt like I forced (shots) up after I saw a couple roll, so I wanted to go try again.' Utah chipped away at the deficit in the second half and rallied late in the fourth quarter. Clarkson buried consecutive 3-pointers to punctuate a 10-0 run and cut Atlanta's lead to 106-101 with 3:17 left. Young countered with a 3 to keep the Hawks in control. Atlanta held off the Jazz in the end because Utah struggled to get stops even after making baskets. 'They have a lot of very good offensive players and if you're not detailed in your defense, they can punish you,' Jazz coach Will Hardy said.

Lightning Earn Redemption Win Over Five - by Eurobasket News
The Lightning picked up a redemption win Saturday night over the visiting Sudbury Five to the tune of 99-85. Shorthanded after the release of Jordan Burns and Mike Edwards and the injury to Terry Thomas, the Lightning started the game with an energy that has been missing for most of the season. After briefly allowing Sudbury to take an eight point lead mid-way through the first quarter, London would finish the quarter on a 21-6 run to lead 30-23 and never give up their lead for the remainder of the game. The Five would hang around for most of the second and third quarters thanks to London's poor shooting performance. As a team, London shot 38.9% from the field and an icy 10-42 from beyond the arc (23.8%). Tempers would flare as Five player, Jaylen Bland (6'4''-G-1993, college: UC Riverside), was ejected after receiving his second technical foul early in the fourth, fortunately, cooler heads would prevail. With London leading by nine points heading into the fourth quarter, both teams would struggle to find the bottom of the basket, with both teams combining for just 27 total points. London's bench would close out the game, outscoring Sudbury 16-11, helping London secure the 14 point victory. London now takes sole possession of first place in the NBL Canada standings with a 5-2 record while Sudbury suffers their second loss of the season and currently sits 4-2. Sudbury currently leads the league at 108.0 points per game this season, but despite beating London in the first of their two meetings, is averaging just 85.5 points against the Bolts stingy defense. Despite uncharacteristically poor shooting numbers, Mareik Isom (6'9''-F-1994, college: Texas) led the Bolts with a team-high 19 points, five steals and five rebounds. Player of the Game, Antwon Lillard (6'6''-G-1995, college: BGSU), added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals of his own while Marcus Ottey (6'2''-G-1997, college: UIC) (15 points) and Mike Nuga (6'2''-G, college: UNLV) (14 points) rounded out the scoring on the night. Despite his early exit, Jaylen Bland led the Five and all scorers with 22 points on 7-22 from the field while also adding 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Jeremy Harris added 19 on 6-15 shooting. The league's leading rebounder, JD Miller recorded a double-double on the night with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Mensah, No. 22 Aztecs beat Boise State 72-52 for MWC lead - by Eurobasket News
Nathan Mensah (6'10''-F) scored 17 points as No. 22 San Diego State raced past Boise State 72-52 Friday night in a showdown of the Mountain West Conference's top two teams despite an off night by Aztecs' leading scorers Matt Bradley (6'4''-G-1999) and Darrion Trammell (5'10''-PG-2000). Keshad Johnson added 10 for SDSU (18-5, 9-2), which regained sole possession of first place. Bradley came in leading the Aztecs at 13.2 points per game but didn't score until making a jumper with 9:16 to play, finishing with three points. Trammell came in averaging 11.1 and didn't score until making a shot earlier in the second half, finishing with four. Max Rice (6'5''-G) scored 16 for Boise State (18-6, 8-3), which was without its leading ballhandler, point guard Marcus Shaver Jr., who was out with a high ankle sprain. Shaver had a walking boot on his right foot. BSU beat SDSU three times last year, including in championship game of the conference tournament. The Aztecs raced to a 43-21 halftime lead despite getting zero points from Bradley and Trammell. Mensah led the way with 12 points and Adam Seiko (6'3''-G-1998) had nine. 'I'm extremely pleased with our performance tonight. I thought we put 40 minutes together,' said coach Brian Dutcher , whose Aztecs were coming off a nine-point loss at Nevada in which they didn't play well in the second half. 'We've obviously played 20 minutes of great basketball most games, usually the first half, but the second half I thought we came out and competed at a higher level than we had. That said, we got outscored by two points. But we didn't see the drastic give up 10, 12 extra points that we have in these other games.' Mensah had six points during a 14-0 run that carried the Aztecs to a 29-10 lead with 5:47 left before halftime. Seiko made two 3-pointers, including a 27-footer to cap the run just before a timeout. An SDSU team manager who goes to the scorer's table to get stats during timeouts was whistled for a technical for putting his thumb and pinkie up to his ear as if to say, 'Dial up a 3," and BSU's Max Rice made both free throws. Dutcher said he didn't see it, but figured the ref probably thought the manager was taunting BSU. 'I'm glad it wasn't at the end of a two-point game and glad we had a cushion,' Dutcher said. 'No technical is good, but I'm sure he'll have a memory for the rest of his life.' The combination of SDSU's defense and the absence of Shaver was too much for the Broncos. BSU shot only 33.3% in the first half and was called for a 10-second violation late in the first half. The Aztecs blocked three shots in the first 20 minutes, two by Aguek Arop and one by Mensah. Mensah blocked a shot with three minutes left that set up a slam dunk by Johnson on an alley-oop pass from Seiko for a 70-50 lead.

Jordan's double-double lands him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
actionPhoto
KLS

Point guard Johnathan Jordan (178-PG, agency: Slash Sports) had a very impressive game in the last round for Zdravlje and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 20.
He had a double-double of 39 points and 10 rebounds, while his team was edged out by Tamis PN (#8, 10-10) 95-91. Zdravlje maintains the 12th position in Serbian league. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 14 games and recorded just six victories. In the team's last game Jordan had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He turned to be Zdravlje's top player in his first season with the team. Johnathan Jordan averages this season 18.3ppg, 5.3rpg and 5.5apg.

Second best performed player last round was Lazar Joksimovic (203-C-2002) of top-ranked Zlatibor. He is a center in his 3rd season at Zlatibor. In the last game Joksimovic recorded impressive double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds. It was enough for Zlatibor to edge slightly lower-ranked Dynamic VP (#3, 14-6) by 3 points 84-81. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Zlatibor consolidated its place in the very top position of the standings. His team lost just three games this season, while they won 17 matches. Joksimovic is one of the most experienced players at Zlatibor and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Stefan Smith (188-G-1999) of Kolubara (#16). Smith scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He was a key player of Kolubara, leading his team to a 80-76 win against slightly higher-ranked Cacak 94 (#14, 6-14). Kolubara can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 5-16 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Smith has a very solid season. In 5 games in Serbia he scored 23.4ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Dusan Beslac (205-PF-1998) of Vojvodina NS - 25 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Filip Barna (201-F/G-1999) of Spartak - 22 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists

Pili, No. 7 Utah hold off Oregon State 75-73 in overtime - by Eurobasket News
Alissa Pili (6'2''-F-2001) scored 23 points and No. 7 Utah withstood a furious rally in a 75-73 overtime victory over Oregon State on Friday night. Trailing by three points with 0.4 seconds remaining in overtime, Oregon State's Timea Gardiner (6'3''-F-2003) was fouled on a 3-point attempt. Gardiner missed the first free throw, made the second, and intentionally missed the third, but the Beavers were unable to get the rebound as time expired. Gianna Kneepkens (5'11''-G) scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half for the Utes (19-2, 9-2 Pac-12), who have matched the best 21-game start in school history. Talia von Oelhoffen scored a team-high 17 points for Oregon State (11-11, 3-8), which has lost five of its last six games. 'We kind of lost focus in the second half,' Kneepkens said. 'But a big part of winning games is finding ways at the end of games to make plays. We kind of just need to focus on that.' Gardiner's inside basket with 10.1 seconds left tied the game and brought Oregon State all the way back from an 18-point, second-quarter deficit. The Beavers finished regulation on a 12-2 run to force overtime. Oregon State took its first lead of the game on Bendu Yeaney (5'10''-G)'s layup to open the scoring in the extra period. After Yeaney's basket put Oregon State up 70-69, Kneepkens converted a reverse layup, and two free throws on the Utes' next possession to put Utah on top 73-70. Beers scored inside to cut the lead to one, but Pili converted two free throws with 19.4 seconds remaining to give Utah a 75-72 advantage. It was another close loss to a ranked team for the Beavers, who fell 63-60 at then-No. 3 Stanford last week. 'We've been very inconsistent,' Oregon State coach Scott Rueck said. 'When this team has been focused and maintained that focus for that level of time, we can in my opinion, we can beat anyone.' The same could be said about the Utes, whose only losses this season came on the road against Colorado and Stanford. Utah is 3-1 against ranked opponents and trails Stanford by one game in conference standings. Neither team shot particularly well. Oregon State made 38.6% of its shots compared to 35.9% for Utah, but the Utes made 10 3-pointers to seven for the Beavers. Jenna Johnson (6'2''-F) joined Pili and Kneepkens in double figures for Utah with 11 points. Yeaney had 13 points, four assists and three steals for the Beavers. Beers had 11 points with nine rebounds, and Jelena Mitrovic had eight points, nine rebounds and five blocks..

Lynx sign former Fever guard Tiffany Mitchell, four of their own in free agency - by Eurobasket News
The Lynx re-signed four of their own free agents and announced the signing of guard Tiffany Mitchell (5'9''-PG-1994, college: S.Carolina) on Friday. Re-signed were: forwards Bridget Carleton (6'1''-F-1997, college: Iowa St.), Damiris Dantas (6'3''-F-1992), Nikolina Milic (6'3''-C-1994) and guard Lindsay Allen (5'8''-PG-1995, college: Notre Dame).
The 5-9 Mitchell averaged 6.5 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 16.2 minutes per game for Indiana last season. She played in all 34 games with eight starts. Her 45.1% shooting was the fourth-best of her career and her 38.7% shooting on three-pointers was the third-best of her seven-year career.
Carleton averaged 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds last season, averaging 16.8 minutes. The 6-3 Dantas, battling injuries, appeared in 15 games last season, averaging 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 17.4 minutes. A rookie last season, Milic appeared in 31 games, averaging 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds. A 5-8 guard, Allen appeared in the final nine games for the Lynx last season, a stint that included a 26-point performance in the season finale.
In free agency, the Lynx took a swing at signing high-profile players Breanna Stewart and Courtney Vandersloot, both of whom ended up in New York. Another player the Lynx were thought to be interested in, Azura Stevens, announced her move to Los Angeles.
Determined to give Napheesa Collier space to work on the inside with center Sylvia Fowles retired, Lynx coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve said she's interested in a center that is more of a stretch shooter on the outside on offense. When healthy, Dantas fits that bill. She had the best season of her career in 2020, the season played in the COVID-19 bubble in Florida. With Fowles out for most of the season with an injury, Dantas averaged 12.9 points and shot 43.3% on three-pointers.

Sparks sign Azura Stevens, introduce Stephanie Talbot as team's new 3-point sharpshooter - by Eurobasket News
The Sparks have signed free agent forward Azura Stevens (6'6''-C-1996, college: UConn), a 2021 WNBA champion, who most recently played for the Chicago Sky, the team announced Friday. 'I am beyond excited to be joining the Los Angeles Sparks,' Stevens said via a press release. 'The plan that KB & Curt are putting together for this team & organization is special and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it. I can't wait to get to LA & get to work!' The 6-foot-6 versatile post player is entering her sixth season in the WNBA after being drafted sixth overall by the Dallas Wings in 2018 out of Connecticut. During her career, she has averaged 9.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. 'Azura was our number one free agent target,' Sparks CAO & GM Karen Bryant said. 'She is already a WNBA champion and is just entering the prime of her career. We are thrilled that she chose the Sparks as her new team and L.A. as her new home.' 'Z is a rising star in our league and a tremendous teammate,' Sparks head coach Curt Miller added. 'At 6-foot-6, she has outstanding versatility to play effectively on the inside and on the perimeter. She is a fantastic addition to the Sparks.'
The Sparks also signed Stephanie Talbot (6'2''-G/F-1994) on Feb. 1, which was the first day free agents could officially sign with teams across the league. The 6-2 forward, who most recently played about 17 minutes per game for Seattle Storm the past two seasons, was lauded by Miller as one of the top 10 three-point shooters in the WNBA, who he believes will help the new-look Sparks with floor spacing. 'I have great appreciation for her motor, this great length, constant movement, constantly a pain in the butt to play against through the years,' Miller shared. 'So now to have her as part of the family is so fun. Obviously, we set out during this free agency with two main pillars, build with great people and improve our shooting and improve our floor spacing and Steph does all of that.' Talbot, a native of Australia, who is entering her sixth season like Stevens, is excited to help turn around a Sparks team that has missed the playoffs the past two seasons. She's also excited about the possibility of an expanded role, which would allow her to show that she's more than just a great 3-point shooter. 'I'm known in the WNBA for 3-point shooting but in particular when I play in Australia and when I play for the Opals, something I've really improved over the years is being able to get downhill, come off the pick and roll and facilitate,' Talbot shared via virtual news conference in Australia Thursday. 'So I'm hoping to keep on improving that and hopefully bring some of that to the Sparks as well. Definitely being a bigger guard gives me the versatility to play the four and stretch the floor from that position and do whatever I need to do to help the team.' The Sparks will begin the 2023 season at home against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday, May 19.
