ANTIGUA
Antiguan ABBA round 6 best performance: Devorn Benjamin (by Hoops Agents) - by Eurobasket News
International Point guard Devorn Benjamin (182-PG-1995) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Stingerz, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 27-year old player was the main contributor (28 points, three rebounds and seven assists) to his team's victory, helping them to outclass Slam (#6, 2-5) with 39-point margin 105-66. Stingerz maintains the 2nd position in Antiguan ABBA. They are still close to the very top. Stingerz would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 6-1 record. In the team's last game Benjamin had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Stingerz, through which he has constantly improved. Devorn Benjamin has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (5th best: 15.1ppg).

The second best player in last round's games was another Stingerz's star - Tequan Brodie. Brodie had a very good evening with a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Of course together with Benjamin he helped Stingerz with another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Slam (#6, 2-5) 105-66. Stingerz's second position in the standings has not changed. His team lost just one game this season, while they won 6 matches. Brodie is one of the most experienced players at Stingerz and similarly like Devorn Benjamin has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Stingerz's star - Jayden Andrew. Andrew showcased his all-around game by recording 8 points, eight rebounds and sixteen assists (!!!) in the last round. He was another key player of Stingerz, helping his team with a 105-66 easy win against the lower-ranked Slam (#6, 2-5). Stingerz is closer and closer to top of the standings. They will still need more victories. But 6-1 record is not that bad... Andrew has a great season in Antigua. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.8ppg (2nd best) and assists with 9.3apg (best passer). He also has 4.5spg and FGP: 50.7%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jamine Charles (211-F) of Stingerz - 8 points, 18 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Olivee Morris (G) of Slam - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists
6. Ezekiel Francois (2001) of Slam - 11 points and 15 rebounds
7. Adissa Harris) of Slam - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Donte Trimingham) of Stingerz - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Kenroy Telemaque (C) of Stingerz - 4 points and 9 rebounds
10. Jahmarie Hastings) of Slam - 4 points and 7 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The Player of the Week awards are presented by Hoops Agents. Hoops Agents is the most complete website about the agencies and players they represent. With more than twenty years of experience, Hoops Agents is already recognized as the most reliable destination for the players who wish to continue their career in professional basketball and are searching for a reputable and connected representation. Isaac White (188-G-1998) had a very impressive game in the last round for Mackay M. and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents NBL One Player of the Week award for round 20.
The 24-year old guard got a double-double of 33 points and eleven assists, while his team outclassed Cairns M. (#10, 5-6) with 31-point margin 107-76. Mackay M. is placed at 4th position in Australian NBL One. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Mackay M. will need more victories to improve their 7-4 record. In the team's last game White had a remarkable 90.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Mackay M., being already a very valuable addition to the team. California Baptist University graduate has very impressive stats this year. White is league's best scorer averaging so far 34.2ppg. White is in league's top in and averages solid 2.5spg,56.3% FGP and 40.3% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young forward George Blagojevic (203-F-1997) of Geelong S.. Blagojevic impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 31 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Geelong S. lost that game 97-109 to the lower-ranked Bendigo B. (#14, 5-7). Geelong S. managed to keep the same 7th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 6-5 record is not bad and everything may still change. Blagojevic is a newcomer at Geelong S. and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Chris Bryant (203-C/F-1992) of second-ranked Inner WB. Bryant scored 25 points and grabbed seventeen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Inner WB, leading his team to a 90-72 easy win against the lower-ranked Illawarra H. 2 (#10, 6-7). Inner WB is closer and closer to top of the standings. They will still need more victories. But 11-2 record is not that bad... Bryant has a very solid season. In 13 games in Australia he scored 19.5ppg. He also has 8.8rpg and FGP: 59.9%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jeremy Combs (201-C/F-1995) of Rockingham F. - 32 points and 7 rebounds

Manama lift Khalifa bin Salman Cup - by Eurobasket News
Sir'Dominic Pointer (198-G/F-1992, college: St.John's) and Hussain Ali (1993) combined to score 12 points between them in the last five minutes to propel Manama to a come-from-behind, 75-72, win over Muharraq in a pulsating final at the Khalifa Sports City Arena to clinch the 2022-23 Khalifa bin Salman Cup last night. Muharraq held the edge when the match entered its final five minutes as they led 65-63. Just seconds later, a three-point jump shot by Hussain Salman pushed their lead to five points with the scoreboard reading 68-63. Half a minute later, a two-point jump shot by Sir'Dominic Pointer brought the deficit down to three for Manama at 65-68 and, after another 60 seconds, Sir'Dominic Pointer netted a three-point jump shot to level the score at 68-68 and send the Manama fans - who had packed the arena to capacity with their Muharraq counterparts three hours before the start of the game - into a joyous frenzy. With barely three-and-a-half minutes left, it was anybody's game and both team's supporters - the Muharraq fans in a sea of white in half the stadium with the Manama contingent creating an ocean of blue in the other half - threatened to bring the roof down with their cheering and clapping. Soon, DaJuan Summers (203-PF-1988, college: Georgetown, agency: Interperformances) put Muharraq ahead again with a two-point jump shot to make it 70-68 and, as the seconds ticked past, the cheering and singing from their fans became louder. But, after a series of missed opportunities by both sides, it was the Manama fans' turn to roar loudly as Hussain sank a lovely, three-point jump shot to put his team ahead, 71-70, with just under two minutes left. Thirty seconds later, the Muharraq contingent cheered loudly twice in quick succession as Dewayne Jackson calmly deposited two free throws with the 2016-17 champions now leading 72-71 and slightly more than a minute left till the final buzzer. Then, after another sequence of missed chances by both teams, Sir'Dominic Pointer made a two-point driving layup and suddenly Manama had a real chance of winning the game with just 39 seconds left as they led 73-72. Muharraq had a chance of going ahead barely a quarter of a minute later but Summers missed a two-point jump shot with about 20 seconds to go and the fans in white sensed that the game might be up as heads began to drop in the stands. And, when, with 12 seconds to go, Manama were awarded two free throws because of a personal foul on Hussain which he then coolly deposited into the hoop, the 2017-18 champions led 75-72 and their fans had already begun to celebrate. There was still time enough, however, for Muharraq to make one last, desperate attempt to try and draw level and push the game into a five-minute playoff and, for a few seconds, it looked like they might just pull it off as their players made a mad scramble around the Manama area. But a back throw by Hussain Salman to Summers was too high and just eluded the tall player's grasp and as he ran after the ball, the buzzer sounded, sending the Manama players into group celebratory hugs and their fans into paroxysms of joy. Earlier, Manama had dominated proceedings, leading 22-17 at the end of the first quarter and 42-33 at half-time. But Muharraq roared back into the contest in the third quarter, leading 57-55 when it ended and, for the first half of the last quarter, looked like they were going to run away with the game until the stunning Sir'Dominic Pointer- and Hussain-led turnaround.

Albarran's 43-point game gives him LNB 2 Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
Keinder Albarran put on an amazing game in the last round for Liceo Curico and receives a Hoops Agents LNB 2 Player of the Week award for round 7.
He had the game-high 43 points adding seven rebounds and four assists for Liceo Curico in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Aleman (#5, 2-4) with 32-point margin 100-68. Liceo Curico is placed at 4th position in Chilean LNB 2. Liceo Curico is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-3 record. In the team's last game Albarran had a remarkable ten three-pointers out of 16 attempts. He turned to be Liceo Curico's top player in his first season with the team. Albarran has impressive league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 28.3ppg. Albarran is in league's top in assists (7th best: 3.8apg) and averages solid 45.9% from behind 3-point line.

Second best performed player last round was Heder Louis (F). He is Haitian forward in his first season at Liceo Curico. In the last game Louis recorded impressive double-double of 16 points and 28 rebounds. Of course together with Albarran he helped Liceo Curico with another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Aleman (#5, 2-4) 100-68. This victory allowed Liceo Curico to move up to 4th position in Zona Sur. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-3 record. Louis is one of the most experienced players at Liceo Curico and similarly like Keinder Albarran has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.7ppg (#8). He also registered 20.0 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to Pedro Soares of Arabe de Valp. (#5). Soares showcased his all-around game by recording 23 points, fourteen rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. Despite Soares' great performance Arabe de Valp. lost 76-85 to the higher-ranked Sergio Ceppi (#2, 4-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Arabe de Valp. ranking at the top of Zoba Centro, however are very questionable as they have already lost 3 games, recording just two victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Soares could help Arabe de Valp. to bring them higher in the standings. Soares has a great season in Chile. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.2rpg (7th best) and assists with 3.8apg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Martin Morales (F-2002) of Truenos - 22 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Adrian Toro (176-PG-1989) of Sergio Ceppi - 9 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists
6. Boris Guerra (PF-1987) of Sergio Ceppi - 29 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Nicolas Vargas (F-2001) of Arabe de Valp. - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists
8. Yoel Leon) of Brisas - 17 points and 13 rebounds
9. Felipe Oyarzun (187-G-1989) of Brisas - 27 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Martin Gomez) of Colo Colo - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists

Luxembourg's late run not enough against Montenegro - by Igor Obradovic
Our men's national team played its second game of the games of the small States of Europe on Tuesday. The FLBB squad lost 72:76 against tournament favorite Montenegro. The opponent had the better start (26:17 after 10 minutes) and was able to extend the lead before the half-time break (50:30). The FLBB squad stormed back in the second half and cut the deficit to under 10 points with 3 minutes remaining. In the end, Luxembourg lost the game by pnly 4 points which certainly gives the team a lot of confidence for a possible rematch in the semi finals or finals. Alex Laurent (198-SF-1993) led Luxembourg with 25 points. Filip Andjusic (207-C-2002) paced the winners with 19 points.

Josef Dulibic (Alba Berlin) Will Never Forget Seeing The Joy And Belief On The Faces Of His Players That They Could Win The JBBL Title - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber

Josef Dulibic is head coach of Alba Berlin's JBBL (U-16) team. He was 13 years active in the organization as coach with Croatian top team Cibona ZagrebHe came to Alba Berlin first as NBBL coach wining the 2018 NBBL title and won the JBBL title in 2023. He spoke to eurobasket about the title weekend in Frankfurt.

Congrats Josef on winning the 2023 JBBL title. It was 5 years since the organization last won a JBBL title. The last time Alba won was in 2018 winning the double. How good did the win feel for you personally?

I'm really proud of the guys. We had a goal 2 years ago to reach the top 4 and to win it. It is always nice to reach your goal. It is even nicer winning against a good team like Eintracht Frankfurt-Fraport Sklyiners

You led the Alba Berlin NBBL squad to the 2018 NBBL title. What is the biggest difference to coaching U-16 kids then U-19 kinds?

U-19 guys are a lot further in their development of the tactics of the game. Some of the U-19 guys train with pro's and are more developed while a lot can still happen with guys coming from the JBBL to the NBBL level. Some of our U-19 guys trained with Aito. It is easier for an NBBL players to train with pro's then JBBL guys with NBBL guys.

Coming into the game Eintracht Frankfurt-Fraport Skyliners were the massive underdog for me. You told me before the game something I will never forget. In the end there isn't a difference between the Alba and Frankfurt players. At the end it took you 2 Ot's to win?

We were undefeated and the expectations going to Frankfurt were huge. The NBBL team had the best players in Germany and then top recruits with Rikus Schulte and Linus Ruff. The JBBL players are all from Berlin. Even if many feel because we were undefeated we are a dominant team, we aren't? We never played against Frankfurt or Cologne during the regular season. Both those teams had 5 national players combined. One third of the national team is from those two teams. We only had Mathieu Grujicic (193-G-2007).

Eintracht Frankfurt-Fraport Skyliners gave Alba Berlin all they had. How much respect do you have for Olaf Kanngiesser for leading his players to making it such a tough final for you?

He did a super job. Frankfurt has shown in the past that it has 2 faces. Sometimes they play great while other times don't seem as motivated. This year they were one year more experienced. He did a great job with the guys and took us to the limit. We didn't have much more to give in the final.

In the second OT Alba Berlin finally took control. Would you still have won without Matthieu Grujicic?

That is like saying would the Chicago Bulls have won the triple without Michael Jordan? Mattieu is the best player in Germany. We have all solid players, but more role players. It would have been difficult to win without him. You could also ask would Frankfurt have been in the final without Crnjac and Messer or Cologne without Remagen?

I was amazed by Mattieu Grujicic. The more he scored the more excited I got. When he was at 50 the next Doncic slipped out of my mouth. How talented is this kid?

He is very talented. To become a great player, you need the body and character. He works very hard in the gym especially on his shot. How far one can get too relies on a lot of factors. Dirk Bauermann said it best. 'You need to become the best version of yourself'. He is on a good way.

How did you see Mattieu Grujicic's development in the JBBL? What is always key in the JBBL happening to a player in their development before reaching the NBBL level?

He needs to think what do I need to do best to become a pro. A player that wants to become a pro needs a good skill set. It's not about how many lay ups you can make. Two years ago he had no shot. He had good ball handling and only made lay ups in the U-14. This season he became a real good shooter. I thought Roy Krupnikas was a really good shooter last season but Mattieu is a step further. I remember someone saying that it seemed like someone had given Mattieu an Andi Obst jersey for the final.

What is your summary of the Alba Berlin JBBL season? What kind of team was it in September and what kind of team did it become in May 2023?

It was a process of 2 years. We became a team with a high IQ and understood when to dribble and when to pass. They were great guys that liked to practice together. They liked to listen and at the end played good JBBL basketball.

The unsung hero for me in the final game was Yari Monninkhoff. He may have scored 15 points, but he did so many other positive things. How did you see his development this season?

It wasn't just him in the final that stepped up, but we had so many other guys that could do it at any time. Mattieu is our Jimmy Butler, but the rest can play. A guy can always jump in and help. We get the maximum out of everyone. When we see one guys having a good game, then we tend to give them more focus.

How did you see the development of Matheo Hermann? Is he on the way of being a type of Entezami or Kayil in the future?

Both can jump, but have different bodies. Matheo is lighter but also explosive. He reminds me of Jordan Poole. He has to improve shot and ball handling. When he sees a Jordan Poole play is always helpful to improving when he sees someone like that doing it well.

The 2023 NBBL/JBBL finals may have been the best in the history of the competition: How important were these 2 games and did the sport win some new fans?

The question is how many not basketball fans saw the games on the weekend? Was it just basketball lovers? I think the weekend was great to see good teams and players. Maybe steal a few things from others and build it into your own philosophy and get new ideas. In the end you want the sport to become as best as it can.

What was your favorite moment at the 2023 JBBL competition besides winning the title?

Just seeing the emotions of the guys. Seeing them in each timeout and in the locker room and looking in their faces and seeing that joy and belief that they could win the title. I saw this special togetherness fighting to achieve the goal of winning

What is your summer plan? What are your goals for the summer? Do you have nay new talents in your mind?

We will start to plan for the next season.

Who will win the 2023 NBA title. Miami or Denver?

I have become a Miami fan. I always told the guys we want to be like Miami and get the maximum out of each player. It is incredible how they have 4 undrafted guys and can still play at a top level. It is also fun to watch Denver. My heart is with Miami, but I fear that they are the underdog.

Is there any team that will be bale to stop the Telekom Baskets Bonn?

It looks like maybe Ulm will challenge them. They got extra confidence beating Alba Berlin and now already won game one against FC Bayern Munich. Bonn has had a great season, but I think it will be tight.

Thanks Josef for the chat.

Indonesian IBL round 38 best performance: Jarred Shaw (by Hoops Agents) - by Eurobasket News

American Center Jarred Shaw (211-C-1990) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Prawira, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 38.
The 32-year old player had a double-double of 38 points and 16 rebounds, while his team beat Rans Pik (#6, 14-8) 97-88. Thanks to this victory Prawira moved-up to the 3rd position in Indonesian IBL. They are still close to the very top. Prawira would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 19-3 record. In the team's last game Shaw had a remarkable 61.9% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Prawira, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Former Utah State University star has very solid stats this year. Shaw is in league's top in points (9th best: 18.8ppg) and averages impressive 66.5% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Ronnie Boyce III (191-G-1995) of Hangtuah. Boyce III had a very good evening with a double-double of 41 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as Hangtuah was edged by slightly lower-ranked Evos Bogor (#13, 6-16) 77-74. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Hangtuah dropped in the standings to 12th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-13 record. Boyce III is one of the most experienced players at Hangtuah and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.3ppg (#2). He also registered 10.6 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American swingman Jay Bowie (196-G/F-1992, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) of Bali Utd. (#8). Bowie scored 25 points and passed seven assists. He was a key player of Bali Utd., leading his team to a 98-67 easy win against the higher-ranked Dewa United (#5, 15-7). The chances of Bali Utd. ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 13 games, recording just nine victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Bowie could help Bali Utd. to bring them higher in the standings. Bowie has a very solid season. In 22 games in Indonesia he scored 16.5ppg. He also has 4.8rpg and FGP: 56.8%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Anthony Allen (210-C-1992) of Tangerang - 19 points and 16 rebounds
5. Akeem Scott (180-SG-1983) of Rans Pik - 24 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Shavar Newkirk (179-PG-1996) of NSH - 27 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Morakinyo Williams (209-C-1988) of Pacific Caesar - 23 points and 10 rebounds
8. Jarrid Famous (209-C/F-1988) of NSH - 23 points and 8 rebounds
9. Teddy Romadonsyah (190-F-1990) of Tangerang - 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Rick Jackson (206-F-1989) of Satria Muda - 18 points and 9 rebounds

Equity Dumas level series 1-1 against KPA level - by Eurobasket News
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will be relying on home court advantage to propel them to victory when they host Equity Banks Dumas this weekend in Game Three and Four of the best of five Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Premier League final playoffs in Mombasa. Equity Dumas remained hopeful of winning their maiden title after they tied the series at 1-1 against defending champions KPA on Sunday. The Bankers won game two by half a basket for a 70-69 win on Saturday, just a day after KPA won 62-53 in Game One. To topple the holders, Dumas must win one or the two games in Mombasa. One win will see the series closed out back in Nairobi in winner takes-it-all game five. 'We started the series poorly after losing game one but we did not give up and we got a win even if it was a narrow one to keep the series alive. Our target remains the same in Mombasa where we only need a win then we can close out the series back at home court in Nairobi,' said Dumas coach David Maina .

Our men's national team played its second game of the games of the small States of Europe on Tuesday. The FLBB squad lost 72:76 against tournament favorite Montenegro. The opponent had the better start (26:17 after 10 minutes) and was able to extend the lead before the half-time break (50:30). Heat finish off Celtics 103-84 for Game 7 victory and a spot in NBA Finals - by Eurobasket News
Jimmy Butler (6'7''-G/F-1989, college: Marquette) scored 28 points and Caleb Martin (6'7''-F-1995, college: Nevada) had 26 points and 10 rebounds in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals on Monday night to help the Miami Heat beat the Celtics 103-84 and turn back Boston's attempt at an unprecedented comeback. The Heat recovered after blowing a 3-0 lead in the series and advanced to the NBA Finals for the second time in four seasons. They will face the Western Conference champion Nuggets, with Game 1 in Denver on Thursday night. Bam Adebayo (6'10''-C-1997, college: Kentucky) scored 12 points with 10 rebounds for Miami, which is the first No. 8 seed to play for a championship since the 1999 New York Knicks. Top-seeded Denver has been waiting since sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers on May 22. Butler was named the Eastern Conference finals Most Valuable Player, an award named after Celtics Hall of Famer Larry Bird. Game 6 hero Derrick White (6'4''-G-1994, college: Colorado) scored 18 for Boston, which was hoping to become the first NBA team ever to advance after falling behind 0-3 in a best-of-seven series. Jaylen Brown (6'6''-G/F-1996, college: California) scored 19 with eight rebounds but went 1 for 9 from 3-point range. Jayson Tatum (6'8''-F/G-1998, college: Duke), who scored a Game 7 record 51 points against Philadelphia in the conference semis, had 14 points with 11 rebounds after turning his ankle on the first play of the game and limping through 42 minutes. The Celtics led by five points early before conceding a 14-4 run to end the first quarter and then giving up 16 of the first 22 points in the second. Boston cut the deficit to seven points late in the third, but Miami took a 76-66 lead at the break and scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to pull away. The Heat took the first three games - two of them in Boston - and needed just one more win to reach to the NBA Finals. None of the 150 teams that have opened a 3-0 lead in an NBA playoff series has ever failed to advance. But the Celtics hyped themselves up by watching a documentary on the Boston Red Sox comeback from a 3-0 deficit against the New York Yankees on their way to the 2004 World Series. When the Celtics took the floor for Game 4 in Miami, ex-Yankees Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter were sitting courtside. Boston won Games 4 and 5 by double digits and had a cushy lead in Game 6 before Miami rallied back to take a one-point lead with 3 seconds left. The Heat appeared to clinch it when Marcus Smart's desperation 3-pointer rimmed out, but White scored on a putback in the final 10th of a second to force a decisive seventh game. Back at home, the Celtics greeted their fans with a pregame video intercutting highlights from the Red Sox comeback with their own. 2004 Red Sox catalyst Kevin Millar recorded a message to hype up the crowd. But the heavily favored Celtics couldn't repeat the feat.

Knicks won't extend contract of GM Scott Perry, sources say - by Eurobasket News
The New York Knicks will not extend the contract of general manager Scott Perry , sources told ESPN, confirming multiple reports. Perry, who was on an expiring contract, worked under president Leon Rose and executive vice president William Wesley this season, as the resurgent Knicks qualified for the playoffs and advanced to the second round. Perry had been general manager since 2017-18. The Knicks were already among the most intriguing teams of the offseason, and a search for a new general manager only heightens the buzz. The Knicks do not have a first-round pick this summer, but they have their own first-round choice in the next six drafts, plus four additional first-rounders from prior deals if they want to travel into the trade market. Young stalwarts such as RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes and Mitchell Robinson could be enticing trade options for teams as well. Recruiting a star to New York City hasn't exactly been easy (or fruitful) over the past decade. But the assets and players are there, and what remains to be seen is two-fold: Which stars might become available this year, and how much would Knicks management be willing to part with if and when it happens? Questions a new GM will have to now answer. New York finished 47-35 before defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. The Knicks then lost to the eventual Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat in the semifinals. Newsday first reported the Knicks' decision on Perry.

Joe Lacob: Warriors haven't tabbed Bob Myers' replacement yet - by Eurobasket News
Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob couldn't fathom why Bob Myers -- his general manager and president for the last 12 years -- would decide to step down. "I'm not going to sit here and tell you I understand it because I don't," Lacob said as he sat adjacent to Myers in a news conference at Chase Center on Tuesday. It had been just about four hours since Myers told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that he would be leaving his position when his contract expires at the end of June. "But it's really not for me to understand why. I just want him to be happy," Lacob continued. Myers' decision took a lot of factors into account, including wanting to spend more time with his family. He squashed the notion that it was because of the Warriors' turbulent and mediocre season. "If the team wins the championship, would you leave? I think, yes," Myers said. He told Wojnarowski it wasn't about money, saying he declined ownership offers on a new deal that would've paid him in the same range as the league's top-earning executives. It's not for a new position waiting for him -- he said he will take a moment to sit still before making his next move. "The bottom line is, this job, the one I'm in ... requires complete engagement, a complete effort, a thousand percent, and if you can't do it, then you shouldn't do it," Myers said. "So that's the answer to the question of why. I can't do that to our players. I can't do that to Joe and Peter [Guber]. Really, I can't do it to myself. And that's the question I've been wrestling with." The natural next question the Warriors face is: Where do they go from here? At Tuesday's news conference, Lacob wouldn't address any clear plans for Myers' successor. But, Lacob is expected to seek more prominent roles for his son, Kirk, an executive vice president of basketball operations, and VP of basketball operations Mike Dunleavy Jr., according to Wojnarowski. The conversations to promote from within -- particularly Dunleavy and the younger Lacob -- have been ongoing for weeks as the team braced for the true possibility that Myers would leave. "[Dunleavey is] as good a GM, if he wants it, it will be great," Myers said. "I will say that we do have a very strong organization, and there's a good possibility it could be an internal candidate," Lacob said. "But haven't made a decision, so can't really give you an answer. We are going to work on that." The plan to promote from within also stems from a possible inability to land an external big-time general manager, as power struggles within the Warriors become an issue, particularly between front office and ownership, sources said. The power dynamic will continue to evolve and become less separated as the Warriors franchise could become more of a family business. Lacob said he will continue to work with Myers through the end of his contract in late June. However, it is unclear who will take on the lead role during the draft process with the draft taking place on June 22. Myers said he would be operating in a support role. "We'll make a decision as soon as we can, but I want to make sure that we make the right decision, and if it happens in a week, great. If it happens in a month, great," Lacob said. "We'll make that decision through the natural course, have the right process. I think we are preparing for the draft and free agency and all those things regardless, and we'll be ready." Whoever is tapped to fill Myers' shoes has a big job waiting for them as the Warriors enter what is the most important offseason the franchise has gone through in recent history. Draymond Green has a player $27.6 million player option waiting for him which, if he turns down, will make him an unrestricted free agent. Klay Thompson is about to enter the final year of his contract. The same goes for head coach Steve Kerr. And then there is replenishing their depth as they work with an already sky-high salary and new CBA rules that will only make it tougher on them. "The truth is, we have a lot of work to do," Lacob said. "We are going to win no matter what. I don't care what the rules are. We are going to figure out a way to do it. That's what good organizations do."

Peralta impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Campo Alto lost that game 71-87 to league's leader San Jose (#1, 14-0). Campo Alto is still second from the bottom in the standings. 11 lost games are too many comparing to just three victories Campo Alto managed to get this year. Peralta is one of the most experienced players at Campo Alto and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 13.9ppg (#8). He also registered 8.0 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was Brazilian Vinicius Malachias (209-C-1999) of Colonias G. (#3). Malachias scored 22 points and grabbed ten rebounds. He was a key player of Colonias G., leading his team to a 106-77 easy win against the lower-ranked Sol de America (#8, 1-13). Colonias G. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 9 victories and 5 lost games. Malachias has a very solid season. In 5 games in Paraguay he scored 16.8ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Leonel Bettiga) of Felix Perez - 14 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Sebastian Galarza (185-PF-2001) of Colonias G. - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists

Filoil: La Salle runs roughshod on Ateneo for 8th straight win - by Eurobasket News
De La Salle University extended its unbeaten run in the 2023 Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, piling onto the misery of archrival Ateneo de Manila University with a 72-59 romp on Sunday in San Juan. Evan Nelle took charge of the Green Archers' eighth win in Group II, scoring 12 points, dishing out seven assists, and grabbing three rebounds. Joshua David also contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists off the bench as they handed their fierce foes a 0-3 record. 'It really doesn't make us the UAAP champions by going 8-0 and beating Ateneo. It doesn't mean anything,' said head coach Topex Robinson after his first experience of the rivalry game. 'But it's always good to see our team execute what we prepared for on the court.' With the score tied at 26-all late in the second quarter, Nelle fueled a 17-6 run. That propelled La Salle ahead, 43-32, at the 6:46 mark of the third period. The Blue Eagles could only come as close as 13 points, 52-65, with five minutes remaining, only to see David score all but two points in a 7-0 counterattack. The run gave the Green Archers a 72-52 advantage. 'I always remind myself of how grateful I am to coach De La Salle. I see in our guards what really kept me playing and then coaching. It's perseverance,' said Robinson. Mark Nonoy contributed 11 points and six rebounds, while Kevin Quiambao added 11 points and six rebounds of his own. La Salle secured the first quarterfinal slot in the premier preseason tournament supported by Filoil, EcoOil, Hanes, Akari, Reyes BBQ, BDO, Kalos Sportswear, and Molten. They now set their sights on second-running St. Clare College of Caloocan (4-1) - the last team standing in their way of sweeping the group phase - on May 31. On the other hand, Ateneo will make another attempt for that elusive breakthrough on June 2 against Far Eastern University. Kainoa Ballungay (201-F, college: CS Stanislaus) led Ateneo in this game with 18 points and six rebounds.
Mapua University also claimed back-to-back wins with a 71-61 victory over San Sebastian College-Recoletos. Kobe Dalisay stepped up with 17 points, including five three-pointers, while Warren Bonifacio added 12 points and five boards. Adrian Nocum contributed 10 points as the Cardinals improved to a 5-2 record in Group I. Alex Desoyo led the Golden Stags (2-5) with 15 points in the defeat.
In the first game, University of the East snapped a three-game losing streak with a 67-59 victory over Centro Escolar University. Delvion Jackson produced a double-double of 16 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks, three assists, and three steals. The Red Warriors moved up to a 3-4 record in Group II. But the Red Warriors still had to fend off a challenge from the Scorpions as their 13-point lead dwindled to as low as four, 63-59, in the final minute. Then Noy Remogat, who went 10-of-11 from the line for 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds, secured the win from the free-throw line. Franz Diaz led CEU (1-5) with 14 points and four boards in the loss.

33-year old center Hassan Whiteside (213-C-1989) put on an extraordinary performance in the last week for league's best team Quebradillas and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for week 33.
He had a double-double of 24 points and 21 rebounds, while his team edged out Manati (#5, 10-20) 95-94. It allowed Quebradillas to consolidate first place in the Puerto Rican league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Quebradillas has a very solid 19-8 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Whiteside just recently signed at Quebradillas, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Marshall University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Whiteside is in league's top in points (3rd best: 21.3ppg) and averages solid 2.5bpg and 54.3% FGP.

Second best performed player last week was Tyquan Rolon (192-G-1995). He is American guard in his first season at Quebradillas. In the last game Rolon recorded impressive 32 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists. It was enough for Quebradillas to edge the lower-ranked Manati (#5, 10-20) by 1 point 95-94. Of course Quebradillas still keep Group A's top spot. His team has currently 19-8 record. Rolon is one of the most experienced players at Quebradillas and similarly like Hassan Whiteside has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Paris Bass (207-F/C-1995) of Arecibo (#3). Bass showcased his all-around game by recording 18 points, ten rebounds and five assists in the last week. He was a key player of Arecibo, leading his team to a 102-70 easy win against the lower-ranked Fajardo (#6, 11-19). Arecibo needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams in Group B. Their record at this point is 16 victories and 13 lost games. Bass has a great season in Puerto Rico. After 25 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.0ppg (7th best) and rebounds with 9.6rpg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Davon Jefferson (203-F-1986) of Manati - 19 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Christopher Ortiz (203-PF-1993) of Manati - 27 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
6. DeMarcus Cousins (211-C/F-1990) of Guaynabo - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists
7. EJ Crawford (198-G-1998) of Guaynabo - 22 points and 6 rebounds
8. Travis Trice II (183-PG-1993) of Humacao - 20 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists
9. James Ennis (201-F/G-1990) of Humacao - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Sheldon Mac (196-G-1992) of Manati - 25 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.

SOUTH AFRICA
Shine number one in South Africa BNL for round 4 - by Eurobasket News
DR Congolese Power forward Emmanuel Shine (199-F/C-1994) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Tshwane S., receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 4.
The 28-year old player had a double-double of 30 points and 15 rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team NC Zebras (#6, 0-2) with 53-point margin 98-45. Tshwane S. maintains the 2nd position in their group in South African BNL. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Tshwane S. won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. Shine has many years of experience at Tshwane S., through which he has constantly improved. Emmanuel Shine has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 24.5ppg), rebounds (4th best: 13.5rpg), assists (8th best: 3.0apg) and averages impressive 2.0bpg and 60.6% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was Misheck Makayi (SF) of league's leader S.Panthers. Makayi had a very good evening with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Of course he led S.Panthers to another comfortable win outscoring NC Zebras (#6, 0-2) 83-63. Of course S.Panthers still keep Group A's top spot. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Makayi is a newcomer at S.Panthers, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#4). He also registered 12.0 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was Zimbabwean forward Thomas Rutsito (202-F/C-1997) of NC Zebras (#6). Rutsito scored 14 points and grabbed twenty one rebounds (!!!). Despite Rutsito's great performance NC Zebras lost 63-83 to the league's current leader S.Panthers (#1, 2-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. NC Zebras can only dream about fighting for top spots in Group A. They have awful season losing so far all 2 games. Rutsito has individually a great season in South Africa. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 19.0rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mukuni Chapula (SF-1997) of S.Panthers - 21 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists

Czech Republic upsets Canada in OT thriller to start the World Cup - by Eurobasket News
We tip things off at the World Cup with a huge upset as the 16-seed Czech Republic pulled away with the OT win against last year's World Cup Runner-up Canada, 18-20. Coming into the tournament, Canada were touted as a title contender, dominating last year with a Women's Series Finals win as well as gaining the Silver at the World Cup. They attempted to flex their height advantage in the beginning of the opening tie. The dynamic sister duo of Michelle Plouffe (193-F-1992, college: Utah, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) and Katherine Plouffe (190-F-1992, college: Marquette) were pulling the strings. But the Czech Republic had another idea in mind. The golden rule of 3x3 - 2 is greater than 1. Led by Katerina Galickova (182-F-2000), the underdogs kept battling back, almost closing out the win in regular time before Canada's late layup sent the game to OT. It didn't take long after for Galikova to continue her roll from deep as she made the crucial two to hand the juggernaut Canadian side a crushing loss. The group only gets tougher from here on out as Canada are yet to face USA, Mongolia and Hungary. Day 1 action is well and truly underway, with more twists and turns awaiting us.

Laetitia Guapo drives France to the win against rivals Spain in the World Cup - by Eurobasket News
Revenge wasn't served this time around as reigning champions France picked up an 8-14 win against a contending Spain side to remain unbeaten on Day 1 of the 2023 FIBA 3x3 World Cup. Last year, it was France who nailed the dagger in OT against Spain in the Quarter Finals of the 2022 World Cup on their way to win Gold. Bringing together a new-look side this time, Spain hoped to right the wrongs of last year in their opening game. While it was a closely contested affair initially, even leading 6-4 early on, it didn't take long for Les Bleues to catch fire. Spain had no answer for Hortense Limouzin (165-PG-1998, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) and Marie-Eve Paget (170-PG-1994, agency: Basket Promotion Agency) while MVP Laetitia Guapo (181-SF-1995) got straight buckets. Tough opener for Spain as they'll look to bounce back today against Austria while the champs end their Day 1 unbeaten. Action keeps rolling today with lots more to come.

International Center Tatiana Gomez (192-C-1981) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Alemana P., receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 41-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 22 rebounds, while her team outclassed Pankull (#6, 1-5) with 36-point margin 79-43. It allowed Alemana P. to consolidate first place in the Chilean LNF. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. Corinne Moussi gets MVP of the Week award for South African WBNL - by Eurobasket News
Corinne Moussi had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader WC Mountaineers and that's her to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6.
The had a double-double of 31 points and eleven rebounds, while her team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team M.Rhinos (#6, 0-2) with 31-point margin 78-47. It allowed WC Mountaineers to jump to the first place in the South African WBNL. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and WC Mountaineers won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Moussi had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. She turned to be WC Mountaineers' top player in her first season with the team. Moussi has impressive league stats. She is league's best scorer averaging so far 26.5ppg. Moussi is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 12.0rpg), assists (3rd best: 4.0apg) and averages solid 4.0spg and 76.5% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another WC Mountaineers' star - Talita Memani. Memani impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Of course together with Moussi she helped WC Mountaineers with another comfortable win outscoring M.Rhinos (#6, 0-2) 78-47. This victory allowed WC Mountaineers to move up to 1st position in Group A. Her team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Memani is a newcomer at WC Mountaineers and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
