Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most shocking disappointment of round 11 in the CEBL was a road defeat of 4th placed Stingers (5-5) to eighth ranked Alliance (5-7) 93-88. American Ahmed Hill (196-1995, college: Virginia Tech) helped adding 28 points and 5 rebounds. Brody Clarke (203-1996, college: Alberta) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds. They share it with Niagara. Alliance are looking forward to face Rattlers (#9) in Saskatoon in the next round. EuroLeague introduces Play-In Showdown - by Eurobasket News
The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Play-In Showdown, designed to add to what is already a dramatic annual playoff race, will debut in the upcoming 2023-24 season. The Play-In Showdown will see teams ranked from seventh to 10th at the end of the regular season compete for the last two tickets to the EuroLeague Playoffs. Under the new format, the seventh- and eighth-place teams will face off in a single game to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals against the regular season's second-ranked team. Likewise, the ninth- and 10th-place teams will play a single game whose loser will be eliminated. The winner will challenge either the seventh- or eighth-place team, whichever has lost their play-in game, to decide the final playoff spot and be paired with the top-ranked regular-season team. Each game in the Play-In Showdown will be hosted by the team with the better regular-season finish. In essence, the seventh- and eighth-place teams that would have been playoff-bound under the previous format have a significant advantage in the Play-In Showdown as each needs to win only one game to reach the quarterfinals. The teams in ninth and 10th place game must win twice or be eliminated.

Rouen Metropole Basket (NM1) inked 26-year old Swiss-French international 201cm forward Yoan Granvorka for upcoming season. Granvorka is the second import player in the roster as Moroccan Mohamed Choua signed here earlier.

Last season he played with Hanau where he tore up the Pro B averaging 21.3ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.0apg, 1.9spg, FGP: 42.7%, 3PT: 34.4%, FT: 83.6%. "Frankfurt is the perfect step for me to make the next step at a higher level. The talks with head coach Denis were good as I liked his truthful and direct approach. Miles Weber Is Happy He Played JUCO Because It Brought The Dog And Killer Mentality In Him And Wants An Overseas Opportunity - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber
Miles Weber (185-PG-1996, college: Harris-Stowe St.) is a 28 year old 185cm guard from Bradenton, Florida that is a professional basketball player and has 3 years of experience. He has played In Mexico, Gutamala, Moldova and El Salvador. He began his career at the IMG Prep academy and played at 4 schools at Chicago State University (NCAA),Western Kentucky University (NCAA), Southern Arkansas University Tech (JUCO), and Harris-Stowe State University (NAIA). He spoke to eurobasket about basketball.

Thanks Miles for talking to eurobasket.com. Where are you at the moment and how is basketball life treating you?

Currently I am in France, just came out here to train with my guy Tremaine Dalton and take a little off season vacation. Basketball has been treating me great. It's extremely hard to get established overseas or even in Central America as an underdog. I've always had a big chip on my shoulder and that's what's carried me this far.

My earliest memory of a nagging phrase was always 'I can see for Miles and miles'. What was your nagging phrase that you heard enough of concerning your name?

Miles of smiles, my mom used to always call me that ever since I was little.

You turned professional in 2020. You didn't do too badly got jobs mostly in Central America despite hardly playing in college. Do you sometimes wonder where you might be today had Covid not surfaced?

Without Covid, the whole pro transition might have been a little easier for me. However I'm glad it did, I do believe that everything happens for a reason.

You began your pro career in Mexico with Kolbri Usila (Mexico-Ciprodebaco):32.4ppg, 5.7rpg, 7.2apg. You really dominated there. What memories do you have of that league? How competitive was that league?

I remember coming off a 17 hour day off traveling, arriving in Usila getting a quick meal then resting until the game. I didn't know what to expect, I came off the bench and scored 39 points, had 7 assists, and 6 boards in my first pro game while shooting 6/9 from the three. I was both nervous and excited coming into that game. I actually told my good friend who plays in Germany now Brandon Cataldo that I was going to score 30 in my first game. It was a great experience to get my feet wet in pro basketball. The whole city of Usila became family to me and I still talk to them up to this day!

You then played with Lakoch (Mexico-Alejandro Cordova League) averaging 15.6ppg, 5.3apg, 3.8rpg. You weren't quite as explosive there stat wise. Did you have a different role?

Yes, well the league was a little different we played 10 minute quarters with a rolling clock so it was a little more difficult to put up as big of stats. I also wasn't as ball dominant with this team, we had a local who was also a skilled guard so I had to share the ball, and shots with him as well.

You then played with Veterinaria Chiluca, Escuintla, Guatamala: XVII Copa Golondrina: 22.3ppg, 10.8apg, 6.4rpg, 2.8spg. Here you really filled the stat sheet. Did it feel like you were a man playing with boys?

Yes it did, I felt like I could do anything out there. The other teams would foul me nonstop though to try and stop me. Sometimes the referees would call it, most of the time they wouldn't. You know how that goes!

This year you played at the Moldovan Cup Chisinau (Moldova) averaging 28.4ppg, 5.6apg, 6rpg, 2.4spg. You got the MVP award. It was your first taste of overseas basketball. How vital was this performance for your self-confidence?

This was my first time in Europe playing, I was playing for coach Harry Savaya who is well known in the coaching world for a reason. I enjoyed playing for him, he taught me a lot and helped me grow as a player. This performance definitely helped with my confidence because I had put up big numbers in 2 countries prior but both in Central America. To produce good stats and win in Europe was a blessing for me.

You last played for MC El Brasil Santa Ana (El Salvador-Liga MB) averaging 28/8/3 stats. You continue to put up huge stats. How was the game, talent and competitive nature there compared to Mexico?

The game out there was fast, it was a little different than the other countries I played in. The whistle definitely wasn't that friendly but that's common being an American playing in a different country. The talent was good and it was competitive. My team was struggling prior to my arrival but I still came regardless of that and did my best to help us grow and win in every which way!

You played at IMG Prep Academy in Florida. What memories do you have of that time. How did that school prepare you best at that time?

It got me ready for college and the pro level. I gained 15 pounds of muscle while there so they definitely developed my game on and off the court. My recruitment also picked up pretty heavily when I transferred there. There were also a lot of NBA and Euroleague guys while I was there so I got to watch how they train and meet talk to some of them. We played against a lot of of JUCOs and other top preps all over. My team was very talented, we were ranked #8 in the country at one point and several of us went right D1 about 8-9 guys.

Then you had huge misfortune during the years from 2016-2020 as you were with 4 schools Chicago State University (NCAA), Western Kentucky University (NCAA), Southern Arkansas University Tech (JUCO) and Harris-Stowe State University. You only played at 1 school. Please talk about these tough 4 years? Were you a walking wounded player?

Yes I wish I could go back and do it differently, but everything does happen for a reason. I did unfortunately deal with a few injuries here and there. I had to deal with some deaths, and illnesses within the family during those years. I dealt with coaching changes as well, which put me in difficult situations. From the outside looking in, my college career was a mess but not everyone knows what all I had to deal with outside of basketball and school.

How do you remember your year at Western Kentucky? I interviewed your ex teammate Darius Thomspon. How did you see his growth in his senior year? If someone had told you then that he would be a Euroleague player in his fifth pro season what would you have said?

My time at WKU was great, I was around a lot of good players and learned from them as well as competed with them. Darius had a great senior year when he came from Virginia and took over right away. I would've believed it for sure if someone told me he would become a euro league player someday. I enjoyed being under Coach Shammond Williams, he took me in and was like a father figure to me during my time there. He also played a big role in my recruitment and me coming to Western Kentucky.

Darius Thompson said this about head coach Rick Stansbury. 'He opened my mind to never back down and always be in attack mode. He always forced me to be aggressive' How did you remember coach?

He would tell me similar things, to be aggressive, attack, and left my presence be felt. He also kept me disciplined on and off the court. Coach Shammond, I would say taught me the most though during my time there, both basketball wise and mentally.

You did play a season at Southern Arkansas University Tech (JUCO). Every guy I have interviewed that played JUCO says that JUCO was tough, but an experience they wouldn't have traded the world for. How was it for you?

Yes Juco was tough but if I could go back I wouldn't change a thing. It really helped bring out more of that dog and killer mentality in me. We had a very strong team and it helped me improve and grow as a player. It was a lot different than being at a D1 university though, I found that out very quick. The JUCO struggle is real.

Who is the toughest player that you ever faced on the court that reached the NBA?

Jonathan Isaac, he was actually one of my former teammates. I enjoyed playing with him and against him in practice. We played together at IMG - he was a basically a 6'10 guard who could do almost everything. I knew he was league bound back then.

Let's talk about your game. You're a 185cm guard. If you had to compare your game to an NBA player who would best fit the bill?

This is a tough one, I've been told I resemble a few players: Steve Nash, Damon Stoudamire, Mike Bibby, and Jason Williams. The first 3 I think because of my vision, shooting, passing , attacking the rim while still being a smaller guard. I think the Jwill comparison is also common because of my creativity as a player.

Talk a little about your game. You have been described s a 3 level scorer and can fill the stat sheet?

Yes I like to score the ball, and can at all 3 levels however I will do whatever it takes for my team to win. Whatever the coach and organization wants me to do, I will do! I can adapt and change my play style whenever. I am a pass first point guard but I will score if I have my defender beat or have an open shot.

Talk a little about how defined your three point shooting is? Can it be a weapon in your game?

Yes I am a sniper, if you leave me open you might as well run back on defense because it's good. It is definitely a strong weapon in my arsenal.

What kind of defender are you right now and what kind of defender do you still want to become?

I take pride in my defense, I like to challenge myself and usually guard the best player or the strongest guard the opposing team has. I like to make the offensive player I am guarding uncomfortable so he isn't able to play his game. I am still improving as a defender as well as in all other aspects of my game. Defense is the most important thing so I will never let up defensively.

On what areas of your game are you working on most now so you can can continue to climb the basketball ladder?

I am always tightening up my handle and getting up lots of reps with my floaters, mid ranges, and threes. Right now mostly I am just in the weight room trying to get bigger , stronger, faster, and more athletic. I know how physical of a game it is over there in Germany, Israel, and most of Europe as well so I need to be ready for that.

Give a few sentences why you could help any team right now overseas?

I am a high IQ player that brings a lot to the table both offensively and defensively. I am a work horse, the first one in the gym and the last one to leave the gym. I am also a high character individual who takes pride in giving back to the community and helping others. I will settle for nothing less than a championship, I am winner and that is my #1 goal coming to an organization. I am very easy to get along with and look forward to being lifelong friends with my future teammates.

Please name your 5 best teammates of all-time?

Chase Berry, Lamonte Bearden, Fred Sims Jr, D'mitrik Trice, and Trayvon Palmer- Im leaving out a lot more of course as I have played with a lot of very talented players and good guys but these are a few that came to my mind that I enjoyed playing with and learning from.

Please list your NBA Mount Rushmore?

Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, and Lebron James.

Who is your GOAT?

Michael Jordan 100%, being born in Chicago how can't you say he isn't the GOAT !

Did you see the sequel to the classic Coming To America? Shouldn't they have left it alone?

No I have not actually, I need to check it out sometime soon and then I'll be able to give you an answer on that!

Thanks Miles for the chat

Hornets Acquire No. 31 Pick James Nnaji - by Eurobasket News
Having already traded down from No. 25 to No. 31, the Celtics are moving down again, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, who reports that Boston is sending the first pick of the second round to the Hornets in exchange for Nos. 34 and 39. Charlotte is using the No. 31 pick to draft Nigerian center James Nnaji (6'10''-C-2004), per Shams Charania of The Athletic. Across 27 games of Liga ACB play with FC Barcelona during the 2022/23 season, the 6'11' big man averaged just 4.9 PPG on 67.1% field goal shooting, along with 3.0 RPG and 0.7 BPG. Clearly a longer-term project, the 18-year-old must have impressed Charlotte scouts with his athleticism and size. He boasts a 7'5 wingspan. The Hornets have enjoyed an active draft thus far, headlined by the selection of Alabama small forward Brandon Miller with the second pick this season. The Celtics, meanwhile, subsequently flipped the No. 34 selection to the Kings and then moved the No. 39 selection to the Hawks for future draft equity. Boston did acquire one rookie in the second round, Arkansas forward Jordan Walsh, with the No. 38 pick acquired in a deal with the Kings.

Celtics Trade No. 34 Pick Colby Jones To Kings - by Eurobasket News
The Celtics continue to acquire future assets while moving down in the draft. Their latest deal sends Xavier guard Colby Jones (6'6''-G-2002), selected at No. 34, to the Kings in exchange for the 38th pick and a future second-rounder, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. Viewed as a 3-and-D wing, Jones shot 37.8% from three-point range for the Musketeers during his junior season. He also averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 36 games. Boston acquired a first-round pick from the Grizzlies in the Kristaps Porzingis (7'3''-C/F-1995) trade that was agreed upon late Wednesday night. The Celtics traded down to No. 31 in a deal with the Pistons, and then sent that pick to the Hornets in exchange for the 34th and 39th selections. Boston used its picks to take Arkansas forward Walsh Jordan (6'2''-G-1972, college: Okla City) at No. 38 and Washington State forward Mouhamed Gueye (6'11''-F) at No. 39. Gueye was subsequently dealt to Atlanta.

Hawks acquire 2nd-round center Mouhamed Gueye of Washington State from Celtics - by Eurobasket News
The Atlanta Hawks acquired the draft rights to Washington State center Mouhamed Gueye (6'11''-F) from the Boston Celtics in exchange for a future second-round pick Thursday night during the NBA draft, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. The Celtics drafted the 6-foot-11 Gueye with the No. 39 overall pick in the second round before sending the rights to Gueye to Atlanta, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade has not been finalized and approved by the NBA. Gueye, from Senegal, moved to California when he was 16. He averaged 14.3 points and 8.4 rebounds for Washington State as a sophomore last season. Because the trade was not official, Hawks general manager Landry Fields could not comment on Gueye when discussing Atlanta's selections in the draft. The Hawks selected guard Kobe Bufkin of Michigan in the first round, at No. 15 overall. The Hawks selected wing player Seth Lundy from Penn State at No. 46 overall.

Kings, Harrison Barnes Agree To Three-Year Extension - by Eurobasket News
The Kings will keep veteran forward Harrison Barnes (6'8''-F-1992, college: UNC) off the free agent market, having reached an agreement on a three-year, $54MM contract extension, agent Jeff Schwartz tells Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The deal will include a 10% trade kicker, reports Sam Amick of The Athletic. Barnes has been a full-time starter for the Kings since they acquired him from Dallas at the 2019 trade deadline. The 31-year-old has appeared in 317 games since then, averaging 15.4 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 2.3 APG with a .472/.387/.827 shooting line in 34.0 minutes per contest. Barnes signed a four-year, $94MM contract as a free agent in 2016 and got $85MM for four years in 2019. Given his age and the fact that so few teams had cap room this summer, it makes sense that he'd have to settle for a slightly lesser annual salary. However, it's also not a surprise that he'll receive well above the mid-level, since his performance hasn't noticeably dropped off in recent years. Barnes had a disappointing playoff showing vs. Golden State, but was as solid as ever during the 2022/23 regular season, with averages of 15.0 PPG and 4.5 RPG on .473/.374/.847 shooting. He was also one of just 10 NBA players not to miss a single game this year. The Pacers were reportedly among the teams believed to have interest in Barnes, but he'll officially sign a new deal with Sacramento before reaching free agency, since he remained extension-eligible until June 30. Barnes' new contract will cut into the Kings' projected cap room, but the team should still have approximately $18MM in space, according to Yossi Gozlan of HoopsHype. As Gozlan observes, Sacramento could use that room to give Domantas Sabonis a raise via a contract renegotiation-and-extension while still having enough left to go after another rotation player in free agency. The club would also have the room exception - projected to get a bump to $7.7MM - once it uses up its cap room. The Kings would also have the ability to operate as an over-the-cap team, which would allow them to access their full $12.4MM mid-level exception and $4.5MM bi-annual exception, but would remove the option of a Sabonis renegotiation.

Nets To Make David Duke Jr. Unrestricted Free Agent - by Eurobasket News
Nets combo guard David Duke Jr. (6'5''-SG-1999, college: Providence). is not going to receive a qualifying offer from Brooklyn and will thus enter unrestricted free agency, reports Brian Lewis of The New York Post. Nets shooting guard Dru Smith, inked to a two-way contract last season, was also not given a qualifying offer by Brooklyn, Lewis adds. He, too, will become an unrestricted free agent. The 23-year-old Duke first joined Brooklyn on a two-way deal after going undrafted out of Providence in 2021. He returned to the Nets on another two-way contract for the 2022/23 season, but saw his agreement converted to a standard roster deal this past April, ending the year on the club's 15-man roster. Across 23 games for Brooklyn in 2023/24, Duke averaged 3.7 PPG, 1.3 RPG and 0.9 APG. In 22 games for Brooklyn's G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, Duke averaged 22.9 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 3.8 APG, and 1.9 SPG. Smith, 25, barely played for the Nets during his inaugural NBA season. In 10 games for Brooklyn, he averaged just 3.3 PPG, 1.7 RPG and 1.5 RPG across 9.1 MPG. Smith played 14 contests for the Long Island Nets, starting just three. He averaged 14.1 PPG on .500/.426/.667 shooting splits, along with 5.4 RPG.

Ateneo Blue Eagles crowned Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup Champions - by Eurobasket News
The Ateneo Blue Eagles were crowned champions of the second season of the Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup on Thursday, June 29. The Blue Eagles completed a tournament sweep after defeating fellow UAAP squad, National University Bulldogs, 65-63, at the Villar Coliseum in Las Pinas. Ian Espinosa and Kainoa Ballungay (201-F, college: CS Stanislaus) started off the scoring run for the Blue Eagles with Andrew Bongo, Joseph Obasa, Joshua Lazaro (193-SF-2002), and Raffy Celis contributing to the first quarter output of Ateneo to keep them ahead, 20-18. Despite losing the lead early in the second quarter, the Blue Eagles dusted themselves off and regained the lead over the Bulldogs via baskets by Jason Credo (180-F-1999) and Lebron Nieto (180-G-2005). NU tried to get close but Ateneo was able to hold on to the lead, 38-24, heading into halftime. The third quarter action kept everyone at the edge of their seats with both teams trying to wrest the lead off each other. The Eagles started the final quarter down by 1, 48-49, but a free throw by Jared Brown tied the game. Celis once again tied the game at 51 and a three-pointer by Brown gave the Eagles the lead with 7:38 left in the game. But the Bulldogs would not backdown, taking back the lead via a Paul Francisco trey, 56-57. At the last 2-minute mark, NU's Jolo Manansala sank a three pointer to give them a single point lead, 62-63, but Mason Amos was able to answer with his own three point shot off an Espinosa assist to give the Blue Eagles a 65-63 lead. The Ateneo squad then foiled the attempts of the Bulldogs to stay unbeaten in the tournament and to win their first pre-season championship. Player of the Game Kainoa Ballungay was also awarded Finals MVP. He finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block, 2 steals, and 1 assist. The Pinoyliga championship comes after the Blue Eagles routed the Colegio San Juan de Letran Knights, 90-85, in an SBP Invitational game yesterday, June 28, at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Mystics overwhelm the Dream on both ends during a 109-86 rout - by Eurobasket News
Late in the first half Wednesday night, Atlanta guard Haley Jones drove for what appeared to be a wide-open layup. But as the rookie elevated, she was met at the apex by Washington guard Brittney Sykes (5'9''-PG-1994, college: Syracuse), who spiked the shot to the hardwood as the Mystics' bench and their home crowd erupted. Sykes's ferocious rejection nicely summed up Washington's dominance: The Mystics overpowered the Dream on both ends en route to a 109-86 victory at Entertainment and Sports Arena. 'I was on the bench, so it was crazy because I had the angle down on the floor. [She] has springs in her legs - she always has,' Mystics teammate Ariel Atkins (5'8''-PG-1996, college: Texas) said of Sykes. 'She's just so springy. She's like a freak of nature when it comes to athleticism.' That block was the highlight of the night, but the Mystics' impressive work on offense was a close second. Washington (9-5) scored a season-high 61 points in the first half. The Mystics' final tally was also a season high; they shot 53.4 percent from the field, made 11 three-pointers on 22 attempts and nailed all but one of their 22 free throws. The Mystics led by 28 at halftime and by at least 20 for much of the second half. Elena Delle Donne (6'5''-F-1989, college: Delaware) led all scorers with 25 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists. She was decisive as she attacked double teams and passed to open shooters and cutting teammates, allowing the Mystics to find their rhythm early. Washington put six players in double figures in all, highlighted by 19 points from Atkins. The defense more than held up in the Mystics' first full game without Shakira Austin (6'5''-F-1999, college: Ole Miss, agency: LBM Management), who is out for at least three weeks with a left hip strain. The Mystics held the Dream to 37.8 percent shooting, well below its season average of 42.3. Cheyenne Parker (6'4''-F-1992, college: MTSU) led Atlanta (5-8) with 23 points and eight rebounds. Washington had six steals and set a season high with eight blocks. 'Right now, we got nine [players on the roster]. We need all nine, and all nine are going to play,' Coach Eric Thibault said. 'We need everybody right now, and everybody's going to contribute in different ways each night.'
