Argentinian LDD round 26 best performance: Angel Reyes (by Hoops Agents) - by Eurobasket News
Dominican Rep. Swingman Angel Reyes (201-G/F-2002) had an amazing evening in the last round for Gimnasia, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 26.
The 20-year old player had a double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds, while his team beat Boca Jrs. (#10, 10-9) 72-67. Gimnasia maintains the 3rd position in Argentinian LDD. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Gimnasia will need more victories to improve their 15-6 record. Reyes turned to be Gimnasia's top player in his first season with the team. Angel Reyes has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (9th best: 16.5ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 9.4rpg) and averages impressive 69.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young Felipe Massa (184-PG-2002) of Platense. Massa had a very good evening with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Of course he led Platense to another comfortable win 85-70 over the higher-ranked Regatas (#7, 11-7) being unquestionably team leader. Platense's 14th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 9-12 record. Massa is well-known at Platense and is a proven leader in his second season with the team. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.7ppg (#8).

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Juan Frontera (178-PG-2002) of league's second-best Instituto. Frontera scored 17 points and passed four assists. He was a key player of Instituto, leading his team to a 80-70 win against the lower-ranked San Lorenzo (#15, 7-13). Instituto is closer and closer to top of the standings. They will still need more victories. But 16-3 record is not that bad... Frontera has a great season in Argentina. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 3.1apg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jose Campoya (195-F/G-2002) of La Union - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists

Sea-Hawks defeat Huskies 90-73 for series split - by Eurobasket News
The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 90-73 on Tuesday afternoon at the Homburg Centre in Halifax. The three-point shooting of the Sea-Hawks made a difference early, as it would all game long - forward Nicholas Tuff (206-F) (St. John's, NL) and guards Flynn Boardman-Raffett (196-G-2002) (London, UK) and Jodick Moudiandambu (180-PG) (Hamilton, ON) each hit a first quarter early three for the Sea-Hawks. The Huskies were able to respond with some inside baskets against the Sea-Hawks zone defence, including a pair of lay-ups by reserve forward Kenny Ngassoue (196-F) (Scarborough, ON), but the Sea-Hawks took a 24-19 lead after the first quarter. The Huskies offence opened up in the second quarter with guard Jayrell Diggs (183-G) (East Preston, NS) connecting for eight points, but Memorial leading scorer Emanuel Ring (198-G/F) (St. John's, NL) poured in 11 of his own, including a pair of explosive fast-break dunks, and the Sea-Hawks led 49-42 at the half. Saint Mary's were led in the first half by 12 points from Diggs and 10 points from Dontae Mitchell (193-G) (Vaughan, ON), while Ring led all scorers with 15. The discrepancy in three-point shooting (Memorial: 5/11, Saint Mary's: 2/14) was a difference maker in the first half. The Huskies were able to claw back to tie the game in the third quarter, thanks to some great play by guards Shae Linton-Brown (Toronto, ON) and Mitchell, but the Sea-Hawks had the answer, with reserve forward Miles Fryett (196-F) (Calgary, AB) chipping in seven points in the third quarter, and Memorial took a 73-61 lead into the fourth. The Huskies offence sputtered in the fourth quarter, as they were only able to muster 12 points, and the Sea-Hawks went on to win the game 90-73. Sea-Hawks big-man Boris Ristanovic (206-F-1999) (Kragujevac, Serbia) was named Subway Player of the Game with a 16 point, 16 rebound double-double, and adding two blocks and two assists. AUS leading scorer Emanuel Ring scored 22 points including a perfect 10/10 from the free-throw line, while Flynn Boardman-Raffettt (14 points, 13 rebounds), Nicholas Tuff (12 points, eight rebounds) and Jodick Moudiandambu (14 points) also scored in double-figures for the Sea-Hawks. American Guard Darius Thompson (193-G-1995) had an amazing evening in the last round for Baskonia, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 21.
The 27-year old player got a double-double of 19 points and 16 assists, while his team edged out Anadolu Efes (#10, 10-11) 114-111. Baskonia is placed at 6th position in Euroleague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Baskonia will need more victories to improve their 12-9 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Thompson as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Former Western Kentucky University star has very solid stats this year. Thompson is in league's top in assists (5th best: 5.9apg) and averages impressive 53.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young Roman Sorkin (208-F/C-1996) of M.Tel-Aviv. Sorkin had a very good evening with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Bad luck as M.Tel-Aviv lost that game 89-95 to the higher-ranked Olympiacos (#1, 14-7). M.Tel-Aviv managed to keep the same 8th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 11-10 record is not bad and everything may still change. Sorkin is well-known at M.Tel-Aviv and is a proven leader in his second season with the team.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Baskonia's star - American forward Matt Costello (208-F/C-1993). Costello got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for five rebounds . He was another key player of Baskonia, helping his team with a 114-111 win against the lower-ranked Anadolu Efes (#10, 10-11). Baskonia needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 12 victories and 9 lost games. Costello has a very solid season. In 21 games in Euroleague he scored 9.7ppg. He also has 4.3rpg, FGP: 62.1% and 3PT: 40.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Gabriel Deck (198-F-1995) of Real Madrid - 23 points and 7 rebounds

EUROPEAN NORTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Dustin Thomas claims European North Basketball League Hoops Agents weekly honour - by Eurobasket News

American Dustin Thomas (203-F-1995) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Prishtina and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 27-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and ten rebounds, while his team crushed Siauliai (#1, 1-3) with 24-point margin 91-67. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Prishtina to consolidate first place in the European North Basketball League. Prishtina is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-4 record. In the team's last game Thomas had a remarkable 90.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Prishtina's top player in his first season with the team. Dustin Thomas averages this season 14.2ppg and 6.7rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American center Tervell Beck (201-C-1996) of Valmiera Glass. Beck impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Valmiera Glass lost that game 83-90 to slightly higher-ranked Brno (#2, 1-4). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Valmiera Glass still maintains its place in the top 3 of the standings, even despite this loss. 5 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Beck is a newcomer at Valmiera Glass and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.2ppg (#3). He also registered 8.0 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was another Prishtina's star - American Derrick Wilson (185-PG-1992). Wilson scored 24 points and grabbed five rebounds. Despite Wilson's great performance Prishtina lost 73-91 to #1 ranked TalTech. But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The chances of Prishtina not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 4 games, recording just two victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Wilson could try to bring Prishtina's a little bit higher in the standings. Wilson has individually a great season in European North Basketball League. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 5.5apg (7th best). He also has 3.3spg and FGP: 57.1%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Alen Hadzibegovic (207-F-1999) of Zastal - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Kristupas Zemaitis (192-G-1996) of Wolves - 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Oliver Metsalu (196-PF-1993) of TalTech - 26 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Garrett Nevels (188-G-1992) of Trefl - 24 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Bryce Alford (190-SG-1994) of Zastal - 30 points and 5 assists
9. Ronnie Harrell Jr. (201-SF-1996) of I.Ness Ziona - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Klavs Cavars (208-C-1996) of Start - 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists

Bruno Albrecht Carries The White Wings Hanau To 38 Point Third Quarter Explosion Defeating the Fraport Skyliners Juniors 91-71 - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber
After starting 2023 with a big win at home against the Wizards, the Fraport Skyliners Juniors since then were riding a losing streak having lost to Koblenz and Speyer. Frankfurt wanted to get back on the winning road as the battle for home court in the playoffs had started. But getting that next win was going to be a real challenge as they welcomed the incredible 15-0 Hanau White Wings. They have been the surprise team of the season as on paper their roster doesn't look to special but coach Marti Zamora-Mas has done a great job helping form a sound chemistry among the many role players and 2 stars Bubba Furlong and Bruno Albrecht (189-SG-2001)t. They have been close to losing a few times, but always found a way to win having won 5 games by 5 points or less. The White Wings Hanau came to Frankfurt with sky high self confidence and after a slow first half, exploded in the third quarter for 38 points paving the way for the comfortable 91-71 victory over the Fraport Skyliners Juniors. It was another normal day at the office for Bruno Albrechtt who carried his team with 22 points as the third quarter set the tone for the win. 'We upped our intensity in the third quarter getting them out of rhythm, not allowing any easy baskets and getting to the foul line. When we have focus on defense then our shots come easier. Once we get rolling, we are too good to lose', stressed ex Rhondorf Dragon tBruno Albrecht. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors played a strong first half, but came out in the third quarter and just stunk up their own living room in front of the watchful eyes of Quantez Robertson. After the shell shocking loss, Felix Hecker had problems dissecting the loss. 'We had an ok first half. Both teams played good defense. But in the second half we had way too many turnovers, had no stops and couldn't play transition', stressed Felix Hecker.

The White Wings Hanau began well in the first quarter and quickly led 7-2. Hanau did a good job getting their work horse Bubba Furlong involved as he contributed 5 points and their top scorer Bruno Albrechtt also scored. After a Felix Hecker lay in on transition, 2019 NBBL winner Philipp Walz nailed a trey for the Hanau 10-4 advantage. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors had little intensity on offense while Hanau let their defense spark their offense and got easy baskets. But the Fraport Skyliners Juniors finally found a rhythm and went on a rapid 9-4 run to tie the game at 13-13. German double license center Jordan Samare led the charge with 8 points via 2 three's. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors got calm on offense and executed during the run and weren't as hectic anymore while Hanau had some good looks, but just couldn't score consistently. In the last minute Bruno Albrechtt added a trey and 2018 JBBL winner Nolan Adekunle made a lay in as the White Wings Hanau led 16-15. Both teams shot poorly as the The Fraport Skyliners Juniors were at 33% from the field and from outside while the White Wings Hanau shot 29% from the field and 27% from outside. Hanau had the tight 11-10 rebound edge, but 6 turnovers while Frankfurt had 3 turnovers. 'We began well, but our intensity went down. They forced us to too many turnovers', stressed Bruno Albrechtt.

The second quarter continued to be a close race as the White Wings Hanau had the lead, but the Fraport Skyliners Juniors never gave up and kept up well with the undefeated club. The White Wings Hanau started the second quarter strong with a 7-2 run to lead 23-18. In the run two clutch three's came from ex Ibam German Gabriel Kuku and ex Sixer Soren Urbansky nail. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors had problems executing, but continued to defend with passion and aggressiveness that allowed them to stay in the game. Frankfurt coughed up the ball in their back court which led to a Kuku dunk and 26-20 Hanau lead. But The Fraport Skyliners Juniors didn't let the guests run away with the lead, but instead struck with a 8-2 run to grab the 28-26 lead. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors defended well getting a Oniya steal and forcing some turnovers which led to easy baskets from Marco Voeller and Alvin Oniya. Superb three and D player Bennet Schubert added a trey for the lead. But The Fraport Skyliners Juniors couldn't close out the second quarter strong losing some intensity and allowing a 6-0 run to allow the White Wings Hanau have the 32-28 advantage at half-time and they would never trail again in the game. In the run the guests let their inspiring team play, calmness and cleverness to get 2 easy buckets in the paint from Urbansky and ex Ehingen guard Tim Martinez and a lay in by Bruno Albrechtt with only a few seconds to go scoring on transition. 'We weren't chilling in the second quarter. It's a long season, we practice a lot and have a short rotation. Plus our guards play heavy minutes. We just hadn't found our game yet', commented Bruno Albrechtt. The White Wings Hanau heightened their shooting at 37% from the field and 31% from the three point line and had 20 rebounds and 13 turnovers while The Fraport Skyliners Juniors shot 31% from the field and 22% from the three point line and had 19 rebounds and 8 turnovers.

The turning point of the contest happened in the third quarter as the White Wings Hanau exploded for 38 points and never looked back. The White Wings Hanau began with a brutal 13-2 run to extend their lead to 45-30. Instrumental in the run was Hanau top scorer Bruno Albrechtt who came alive with 10 points. He contributed 5 points on free throws, a three pointer and lay in. 'I held back a little in the first half. I took command in the second half and my teammates followed. I just do whatever the team needs', warned Bruno Albrechtt. It didn't help The Fraport Skyliners Juniors cause either that 3 key players with Samare, Adenkunle and Voeller were fouled out before the half way mark of the third quarter. The White Wings Hanau continued to execute like a well oiled ship and surprisingly did it without Bruno Furlong who was hit on the head early in the second quarter and never returned finishing with 5 points and 2 rebounds. After the win Furlong went to a Hanau hospital to take tests and get checked. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors then found some daylight cutting the Hanau lead down to 12 points 48-36 as they were aggressive on the offensive glass getting top ins by Schubert and Hecker and Voeller connected on a jumper. But that was all The Fraport Skyliners Juniors had on this night, because the White Wings Hanau then slammed the door shut on Frankfurt closing out the third quarter on a 22-7 run to lead 70-43. The White Wings Hanau executed incredibly well and let it rain three's. Hanau shared the ball well as Walz nailed 2 three's while Martinez, ex Giessen guard Sebastian Brach and Philip Hecker also nailed three's. Frankfurt simply had too little offensive flow and options on this night. Felix Hecker did all he could scoring 5 points in the run. 'We can all shoot. If we are all focused then our shots go in. If we take 10 open three's with little focus, then more 10 contested three's with much focus will go in. We slept on many plays on defense in the first half, but that didn't happen in the second half', warned Bruno Albrechtt. 'We had 3 guys out with 5 fouls. We had to play more young guys. That makes it harder. Plus we knew that they get to the free throw line well. We couldn't hinder that', warned Felix Hecker. The White Wings Hanau shot over 50% from the field and the parking lot and had 25 rebounds and 17 turnovers while the Fraport Skyliners Juniors shot 38% from the field and 22% from the parking lot and had 24 rebounds and 19 turnovers.

In the fourth quarter the White Wings Hanau shifted down a few gears allowing The Fraport Skyliners Juniors to score 28 points, but still executed well on offense with 22 points thus not being in any danger of ever losing. After a Kuku bucket, The Fraport Skyliners Juniors got some solid support from Drago Crnjac who compares his game to Tyler Herro supplying 8 points with 2 three's in 5 minutes, but the club couldn't make any ground as they still trailed 77-51. The guests executed well, but let up a bit on defense which is normal when your leading by 20 plus points. After another Kuku basket and 80-53 Hanau lead, The Fraport Skyliners Juniors found one last hurra going on a 16-5 run to trail 85-69. In the run The Fraport Skyliners Juniors got super support from Felix Hecker with 8 points while ex Trier forward Nils Leonhart added 4 points and little used German guard Isaac Obanor added a lay in. In the last 2 minutes Hanau played some of their young kids as Simon Franke and Tom Arkan also got on the scoring sheet. The Fraport Skyliners Juniors got a pretty lay in from NBBL player Dusan Nikolic, but all in all, it was a poor second half for the Fraport Skyliners Juniors. 'The game was over before the fourth quarter began. Our bench guys came in and they went on a run. Bubba Furlong was hit on the head and couldn't play much. We won it for Bubba', smiled Bruno Albrechtt. 'I forced up a lot of shots. They put in some young guys and got sloppy. We came back a little, but not enough', stated Felix Hecker. The White Wings Hanu were led by Bruno Albrechtt with 22 points while Gabriel Kuku and Philip Walz added 11 points apiece while The Fraport Skyliners Juniors were led by Felix Hecker with 19 points while Nils Leonhardt added 13 points. The White Wings Hanau shot 50% from the field and 46% from outside and had 34 rebounds and 23 turnovers while The Fraport Skyliners Juniors shot 43% from the field and 26% from outside and had 33 rebounds and 24 turnovers.

22-year old center Tomas Pavelka (217-C-2000) had an amazing evening in the last round for Tartu and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 21.
He had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, while his team outclassed Liepaja (#10, 9-13) with 27-point margin 89-62. Tartu maintains the 4th position in LAT-EST BL . They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Tartu will need more victories to improve their 14-6 record. Pavelka turned to be Tartu's top player in his first season with the team. Pavelka has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 10.2rpg) and averages solid 3.1bpg and 65.0% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Obrad Tomic (208-C-1993, agency: PEPI SPORT) of Rapla. He is Bosnia and Herzegovina center in his first season at Rapla. In the last game Tomic recorded impressive 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Rapla was edged by slightly lower-ranked Parnu (#9, 9-9) 76-73. This loss caused Rapla to drop to 8th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 12-11 record is not bad and everything may still change. Tomic is a newcomer at Rapla and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to Karl-Johan Lips (200-SF-1996) of Viimsi (#6). Lips showcased his all-around game by recording 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the last round. He was a key player of Viimsi, leading his team to a 87-59 easy win against the lower-ranked Valmiera Glass (#14, 4-16). Viimsi needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 12 victories and 8 lost games. Lips has a very solid season. In 19 games in LAT-EST BL he scored 14.6ppg. He also has 8.0rpg, 3.7apg and FGP: 54.2%.

Embiid scores 47 as 76ers beat Jokic, Nuggets 126-119 - by Eurobasket News
Joel Embiid (7'0''-C/F-1994, college: Kansas) won the battle of MVP candidates with 47 points and 18 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers extended their winning streak to seven games with a 126-119 win over Nikola Jokic (7'0''-C-1995, agency: BeoBasket) and the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. Jokic and Embiid have finished first and second in voting for the NBA's Most Valuable Player award over the last two seasons. Both are among the top candidates for MVP as this season hits the halfway mark, although Embiid was not named among the All-Star starters from the Eastern Conference. 'I'm used to it and it's not the first time,' Embiid said. 'I think it's more of a motivation to go out there and try to win the whole thing. That's the only way that I'll get that respect.' Jokic gave Embiid a nod for his play. 'He's really talented,' Jokic told the Denver Post of Embiid. 'Really shifty.' James Harden (6'5''-SG-1989, college: Arizona St.) had 17 points and 13 assists, and Tobias Harris scored all 14 of his points in the second half after being shut down by Denver's defense in the first half. 'We were able to figure some things out and get some stops,' Harris said. 'Guys stepping up and making shots was huge for us to cut the deficit in the fourth quarter to try and make something happen.' Jokic had 24 points, eight rebounds and nine assists for Denver, which has lost three of its last four games. Jamal Murray (6'4''-SG-1997, college: Kentucky) chipped in 22 points and Michael Porter Jr. (6'10''-PF-1998, college: Missouri) added 20. 'We turned it over and they just turned up the pressure on us,' Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. 'They got to the basket way too easy with their attack mentality. And we just got way too careless with the basketball.' Embiid has scored 40 or more points nine times this season and 35 times in his career. In addition to the All-Star snub, Embiid was also given a $25,000 fine by the NBA on Friday for an on-court demonstration after-basket celebration during Wednesday night's win over Brooklyn. 'Let's keep offending Joel by fining him and not putting him among the All-Star starters,' Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers said sarcastically. The Nuggets began the day with the second-best team field goal percentage at 50.7% and tops in 3-point percentage at 39.5%. In the first half, they overwhelmed Philadelphia's perimeter defense, shooting 65.9% (29 for 44) from the floor and 10 of 17 (58.8%) from beyond the 3-point line. The hot shooting helped the Nuggets to a 73-58 lead at halftime. Embiid started to take over toward the end of the third quarter, putting together a 16-point quarter on 5-of-6 shooting that keyed a 14-0 run that allowed the Sixers to close within 99-98 early in the fourth. In the final quarter, Philadelphia wore down a Nuggets team playing the final game of a three-game, week-long trip. P.J. Tucker (6'6''-F-1985, college: Texas)- who had switched defenively to Jokic and slowed him down in the second half- followed a Harden missed 3-pointer with a tip-in with over a minute left to stretch the lead to five. Embiid then hit a 3-pointer to restore an eight-point lead. 'I've always like to think I am a closer and I am,' Embiid said. 'Taking the last shot or taking a last second shot with the clock ticking is fun for me. I love getting into those types of possession where you have to make the plays. That's where you find out who is who and who is made up for those kinds of moments.'

Wolves use defense to stifle Grizzlies in 111-100 win - by Eurobasket News
Anthony Edwards (6'5''-G-2001, college: Georgia) scored 13 of his 25 points in the third quarter as Minnesota extended its lead, D'Angelo Russell (6'5''-SG-1996, college: Ohio St.) added 19 points and the Timberwolves topped the short-handed Memphis Grizzlies 111-100 on Friday night. The Grizzlies took the court minutes after video footage was released of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols being beaten by Memphis police officers. There was a moment of silence prior to the game but no demonstration by the Grizzlies or Timberwolves. Both teams offered thoughts to Nichols' family and friends in messages tweeted before the video was released. 'There's way harder things going on in the city versus what's going on with our basketball right now,' Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said. 'I'm proud of our guys going out there. As I said before the game, we're playing with heavy hearts, but we're also playing for our city that's going through a lot right now." 'So, it's hard, but our guys went out there and competed. I told them the last two games, as we've been talking about everything that's been going on in Memphis with the tragedy to Tyre Nichols, we've been staying together.' Jenkins said he had not watched the video footage of the incident when speaking after the game and didn't think the team had a chance to watch before the game. The Memphis locker room was closed to media after the game and no players were made available. Kyle Anderson had 23 points for Minnesota, which has won four of five. Nathan Knight added 10 points off the bench. The Timberwolves scored 58 points in the paint 'I thought we were pretty decisive, drawing a crowd and then making the right play,' Minnesota coach Chris Finch said. 'They were pretty heavy in the gaps and do a good job of having multiple bodies at the rim. So, I thought we generated a lot of really, really good looks.' Ja Morant (6'3''-G-1999, college: Murray St.) had 27 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for Memphis. Dillon Brooks (6'7''-G/F-1996, college: Oregon) scored 17 for the Grizzlies. Minnesota established a double-digit lead in the first quarter and made it stand. Memphis' only lead was 7-6. Edwards had eight points during a 12-4 run in the third to give the Timberwolves a game-high 17-point lead. 'I'm not worried, I know it's going to come,' Edwards said. 'I'm going to keep making the right play until they loosen up, and then when they loosen up, that's when I'm going to go. And that's what I did tonight.'

Curry's 35 points send Warriors past Raptors, 129-117 - by Eurobasket News
Stephen Curry (6'2''-G-1988, college: Davidson) had 35 points and 11 assists, and the Golden State Warriors beat the Toronto Raptors 129-117 on Friday night. The high-scoring affair was close until the Warriors pulled away with a 31-point fourth quarter, securing a sweep in the season series. 'It feels like we took better care of the ball tonight,' Golden State coach Steve Kerr said. 'When Steph plays like that, the whole game opens up. The whole floor opens up.' Klay Thompson (6'6''-G-1990, college: WSU) added 29 points, knocking down six 3-pointers despite beginning the night 0 for 5 from beyond the arc. Though Thompson played in the Warriors' 126-110 victory in Toronto on Dec. 18, the game Friday was his first time facing the Raptors at home since he tore his ACL in his left knee in the deciding Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals won by Toronto in Oakland. Kevon Looney (6'9''-PF-1996, college: UCLA) returned to the starting lineup and had 12 points and eight boards as six Warriors players scored in double figures. The Warriors have won consecutive home games after dropping four straight at the Chase Center. 'We've been teetering on either side of .500 for a very long time. I'm kind of sick of it at this point,' Curry said. ' (We've) got to figure out how to keep moving in the right direction and stack wins no matter how we can get 'em.' Golden State's bench outscored Toronto's 39-26, highlighted by 15 points from Jonathan Kuminga (6'7''-F-2002, agency: Verus Management). The 20-year-old missed his first three shots from deep before making four straight 3s in the final three minutes of the third quarter, giving the Warriors a 98-94 lead they did not relinquish. 'He just showed another element to his game that some might have doubted,' Thompson said. 'To get on the hot streak he did was very impressive, and for that man, the sky's the limit for his talent.' Donte DiVincenzo (6'5''-SG-1997, college: Villanova) had a career-high 11 assists and the Warriors outscored the Raptors by 24 points in his 33 minutes off the bench. 'We knew what we were coming up against, and we've had fairly good success guarding and executing, and tonight we just didn't do it,' Toronto coach Nick Nurse said. 'We missed a lot of communication, we just got beat physically.' Fred VanVleet (6'0''-PG-1994, college: Wichita St.) had 28 points and 10 assists for the Raptors, who began their season-high, seven-game road trip 1-1. Scottie Barnes (6'7''-F-2001, college: FSU) had 24 points and Pascal Siakam (6'9''-F-1994, college: NM State) had 21, while Gary Trent Jr. (6'6''-SG-1999, college: Duke) Jr. added 17. Precious Achiuwa (6'9''-SF-1999, college: Memphis) contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Myles Turner Agrees To Two-Year Extension With Pacers - by Eurobasket News
The Pacers have reached a two-year extension agreement with Myles Turner (6'11''-C/F-1996, college: Texas), tweets ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Turner's agent, Austin Brown of CAA Sports, tells Woj that the deal includes a $17.1MM renegotiation on the center's salary for the current season. Turner will have that amount added to the $18MM he's already receiving, giving him an average salary of more than $30MM through the 2024/25 season. It's the largest renegotiation deal in NBA history, according to Wojnarowski, and it's possible because the team had that amount of remaining cap space. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Turner's yearly salaries will be about $35MM for the current season, $20.9MM for 2023/24 and $19.9MM for the following season, giving the deal a total value of $58MM. Turner's new contract also contains $2MM in unlikely bonuses, tweets Bobby Marks of ESPN. Marks explains that because Turner's deal came through a renegotiation, the Pacers were permitted to drop his salary by 40% in the first year of the extension. Marks adds that the agreement doesn't change Turner's trade status; he's still eligible to be dealt before the February 9 deadline. Turner appeared to be headed out of Indiana last summer, as one of the offseason's hottest rumors was a deal that would have sent him and Buddy Hield to the Lakers in exchange for Russell Westbrook and L.A.'s first-round picks in 2027 and 2029. The Lakers decided against parting with that much draft capital, and Turner is putting up the best numbers of his career with a surprising Pacers team. He's averaging career-highs with 17.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting 54.4% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range. He's also among the league's best shot blockers, swatting away 2.4 per game this season. Assuming Indiana plans to keep Turner, he will be part of a young foundation for the team to build around, along with Tyrese Haliburton and rookie Bennedict Mathurin. Turner is only 26 and should be well positioned to land another large contract two years from now.

Mashburn has 24 points, No. 25 New Mexico beats Air Force - by Eurobasket News
Jamal Mashburn Jr. (6'3''-PG) scored 24 points - seven during a crucial late surge - in No. 25 New Mexico's 81-73 victory over Air Force on Friday night. Jaelen House (6'2''-G-2001) had 19 points and six steals for the Lobos (19-3, 6-3 Mountain West). Morris Edeze added 15 points and eight rebounds. Rytis Petraitis (6'7''-F) led Air Force (12-10, 3-6) with 19 points. Ethan Taylor (6'5''-G) had 17. 'It kind of went the way I thought it would go,' New Mexico coach Richard Pitino said. 'I think Air Force is much improved.' That improvement was particularly evident in the second half. 'They were really, really running their stuff to perfection in the second half,' Pitino said. 'They were cutting and getting their back doors. We needed to settle in.', After New Mexico twice held 12-point advantages in the first half, Air Force rallied to take its first lead 6:28 into the second half on 50-48 after Jeffrey Miles finger-rolled in a shot as he was fouled for a three-point play. 'Against a Top 25 team, you have to play a full 40 minutes,' Falcons coach Joe Scott said. 'So whether it was getting down by 12, I think we did a good job of weathering that storm, more than weathering that storm, coming back.' Air Force led 53-49 before New Mexico rallied. 'You have to do it against a really good team in a really tough environment, against really good players,' Scott said. 'I think that's what happened. So give them credit for being able to weather their storm.' The Lobos used a 14-3 run - half of those points coming from Mashburn - to take a 76-68 lead with two minutes left. 'We were able to calm down a little bit when they were up four and pull away,' Pitino said. 'It's a terrific win.' Mashburn was key in a first-half New Mexico run, scoring six points in an 8-0 spree that put the Lobos up 38-26. 'I think we just came out flatfooted,' Mashburn said about the Lobos' lull to start the second half. 'With this offense, you can't be flat-footed or they'll back cut you all day. That's what happened. Coming out of half, we have to be better in being active and being disruptive for the first four minutes.'

Franklin number one in Philippines PBA for round 1 (by Hoops Agents) - by Eurobasket News

American Shooting guard Jamaal Franklin (196-SG-1991, agency: Slash Sports) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked FiberXers, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1.
The 31-year old player had a double-double of 42 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Terrafirma Dyip (#11, 0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team 130-115. FiberXers is placed at 2nd position in Filipino PBA. But it's just the very beginning of the season and FiberXers won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. Franklin just recently signed at FiberXers and it was his first game, where he immediately became new team's leader. Former San Diego State University star has very solid stats this year. Franklin is in league's top in points (2nd best: 42.0ppg), rebounds (5th best: 11.0rpg), assists (2nd best: 8.0apg) and averages impressive 100.0% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young American K.J. McDaniels (198-G/F-1993) of Meralco Bolts. McDaniels had a very good evening with a double-double of 32 points and 22 rebounds. It was enough for Meralco Bolts to edge North Port (0-1) 107-102. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won their first game. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. McDaniels is a newcomer at Meralco Bolts, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 32.0ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 22.0rpg and 4.0apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was American swingman Jordan Williams (198-G/F-1992) of Terrafirma Dyip (#11). Williams got into 30-points club by scoring 46 points in the last round. He went also for six rebounds . Despite Williams' great performance Terrafirma Dyip lost 115-130 to FiberXers (#2, 1-0). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The season just started for Williams as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Marcus Weathers (196-F-1997) of North Port - 29 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Jonathon Simmons (198-G-1989) of NLEX RW - 32 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists
6. Kevin Alas (183-PG-1991) of NLEX RW - 31 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Jalen Hudson (198-G-1996) of TNT Tropang - 34 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists
8. Du'Vaughn Maxwell (201-F-1991) of Phoenix - 21 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Shej Roi Sumang (177-PG-1991) of North Port - 23 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser (201-F-1994) of NLEX RW - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The Player of the Week awards are presented by Hoops Agents. Hoops Agents is the most complete website about the agencies and players they represent. With more than twenty years of experience, Hoops Agents is already recognized as the most reliable destination for the players who wish to continue their career in professional basketball and are searching for a reputable and connected representation. TBT returns to Wichita in July, 2023 - by Eurobasket News
The Basketball Tournament (TBT) announced today that Wichita will once again serve as a regional site for its 64-team, $1 million winner-take-all event. Dates for eight-team Wichita Regional -- co-hosted by Visit Wichita and Wichita State University and headlined by WSU's alumni squad, the AfterShocks -- will be announced in the near future. 'TBT is a chance for players and fans alike to relieve old memories and create new ones, Wichita State senior associate athletic director Brad Pittman said. 'It has become an annual highlight on our summer calendar, and we're looking forward to continuing the tradition in 2023.' This will be Wichita's fourth go-around as regional host, making it the longest-running location in TBT's 10-year history. 'There's nothing like watching the AfterShocks compete in Charles Koch Arena,' said TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar. 'We're excited to bring the Elam Ending back to Wichita in 2023, in partnership with Wichita State University and Visit Wichita. Fans have always made it a special and electrifying experience.' 'We are excited to play a role in bringing this electrifying basketball tournament back to Wichita for a fourth time,' said Josh Howell, vice president of sports development for Visit Wichita. 'Wichitans and basketball fans in the region have consistently shown so much support and passion for this tournament - setting attendance records and creating a thrilling basketball atmosphere inside Charles Koch Arena. We can't wait to see what unfolds during this year's tournament.' Wichita began hosting in 2019 and holds each of the top-5 attendance mark in TBT history. Due in part to their formidable home court advantage, the Aftershocks hold an 8-1 record at the Roundhouse with back-to-back Wichita Regional titles. In 2021, more than 6,500 fans showed up to watch the AfterShocks clinch their first quarterfinal appearance with hometown hero Conner Frankamp providing Elam Ending heroics. Wichita hosted both a TBT regional and quarterfinal matchup for the first time in 2022. More than 15,000 fans turned out over four days and many more tuned in on national television to watch the Shocker alumni steamroll through four opponents and secure a semifinal berth. Should the AfterShocks win the 2023 Wichita Regional, they will once again be awarded home court advantage for the quarterfinals. Zach Bush (6'6''-G-1993), J.R. Simon, and Garrett Stutz (7'0''-C-1990, college: Wichita St.) are set to return as AfterShocks co-general managers with Bush also serving as head coach for the third straight summer. He has guided the team to a 7-2 record since taking over in 2021. 'We're thankful that TBT chooses to return to Wichita each and every summer,' Bush said. 'It's a testament to the incredible Shocker fan base who continue to support us. We've made some incredible memories over the years through TBT, and we're looking forward to putting on another great show for our fans again this summer.' AfterShocks will begin making roster announcements in the spring via their Twitter page, @AfterShocksTBT. Tickets for all TBT games in Wichita go on sale on April 1.

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Scorchers (2-17) were defeated on the road by fifth ranked Manchester Giants (10-9) 97-92 on Friday. Miculka's double-double lands her Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
29-year old forward Carla Miculka (174-F-1993) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's best team Union Florida and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
She had a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds, while her team crushed Rocamora (#6, 1-2) with 17-point margin 65-48. It allowed Union Florida to take over top position in the Argentinian LaLiga Femenina. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Union Florida has a very solid 3-1 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Miculka turned to be Union Florida's top player in her first season with the team. Miculka has impressive league stats. She is league's best scorer averaging so far 20.0ppg and leads league in rebounds with 10.0rpg. Miculka is in league's top in and averages solid 56.8% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Maria Jourdheuil (180-PF-1994) of Dep.Berazategui. She is a forward in her first season at Dep.Berazategui. In the last game Jourdheuil recorded impressive double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. It was enough for Dep.Berazategui to edge Ferro (1-2) by 4 points 64-60. The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Jourdheuil is a newcomer at Dep.Berazategui and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.0ppg (#5). She also registered 9.0 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Josefina Zeballos (173-PG-2003) of Ameghino (#5). Zeballos scored 20 points. Despite Zeballos' great performance Ameghino lost 53-59 to Montmartre (#1, 3-0). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Ameghino can only dream about fighting for top spots in North. They have rather bad season and 1-3 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Zeballos has individually a great season in Argentina. After only 4 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 13.0ppg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Andrea Rebola) of Montmartre - 21 points and 4 rebounds
5. Micaela Gonzalez (167-G-1996) of Ferro - 26 points and 4 rebounds
6. Sofia Cabrera (168-G) of Instituto - 23 points
7. Sofia Acevedo (167-PG-2001) of Quimsa - 19 points and 2 assists
8. Antonella Gonzalez (155-PG-1990) of Rocamora - 16 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Camila Suarez (178-SG-2000) of Obras - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Camila Peri (182-F/C-2000) of Ameghino - 12 points and 9 rebounds

Delorey leads Axewomen in 93-60 win over Tigers - by Eurobasket News
After a split against the Cape Capers last weekend, the U SPORTS No. 8 ranked Axewomen got back on track with a 93-60 win over the visiting Dalhousie Tigers and improve to 11-3. The Subway Player of the Game Sarah Delorey (188-F) (Elmsdale, NS) dropped a game-high 23 points, along with 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Sarah Valley (175-G) (Regina, SK) was the player of the game for the Tigers. Valley led Dalhousie with 16 points on 66% shooting. "We knew we had to stay focused. The last time we played in December, they gave us a run for our money", noted Delorey. " We knew we had to come in strong and work just as hard, if not harder, for the forty minutes." The Axewomen seized the lead early in the first quarter and maintained it throughout the game. Dalhousie focused on forcing turnovers with a full-court press defensive scheme. This strategy showed some benefit as the Tigers were able to force 23 Acadia turnovers - outscoring Acadia 19 - 13 in points off turnovers. However, the Axewomen were able to break through the press with crisp passing on many occasions. Acadia's excellent passing was evident in the box score as Acadia recorded 24 assists in the contest compared to 10 by Dalhousie. Haley McDonald (168-G, college: Acadia) (Port Williams, NS) did most of the playmaking for the Axewomen. McDonald dished out 9 assists to go along with her 19 points. Late in the second quarter, the Tigers reduced Acadia's lead to 10 points. The run was driven by Anjuli Gosal (173-G) (Brampton, ON). Gosal shot 80% and scored 11 of her team's 19 points in the second quarter. Unfortunately for Dalhousie, that was the closest the game would be for the rest of the match as Acadia retook control. The Axewomen currently hold the top spot in AUS standings and will look to maintain this position over the final six games of the season. For Dalhousie, the loss drops them to 1 - 15 this season. The Axewomen will play the UNB Reds tomorrow at home, while the Tigers will make the trip to UPEI to take on the Panthers.

Kindyll Wetta (5'9''-G) made a corner 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in overtime to snap a tie and No. 25 Colorado improved to 3-0 against ranked teams at home with a 73-70 victory over No. 8 UCLA on Friday night. Quay Miller (6'3''-C) had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Jaylyn Sherrod (5'7''-G) added 18 points and six assists, including the dish to Wetta for her only 3-point attempt of the game. The Buffaloes (16-4, 7-2 Pac-12) beat UCLA for the third straight time after losing 10 straight to the Bruins. They also own home wins over current No. 9 Utah and No. 19 Arizona. Freshman Londynn Jones (5'4''-G-2004) scored 14 points for the Bruins (17-4, 6-3), who couldn't overcome another poor shooting outing from leading scorer Charisma Osborne (5'9''-G-2001). The senior finished with 12 points while making 3 of 16 attempts from the field. She's shooting 25% (22 of 88) over the the past six games. UCLA had one final chance, but Kiki Rice (5'11''-G-2004)'s desperation 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Weathersby number one in Turkish TKBL for round 20 - by Eurobasket News
actionPhoto
TKBLw

American Center Zakyia Weathersby (188-C-1998) had a very impressive game in the last round for Edremit, receiving a Hoops Agents TKBL Player of the Week award for round 20.
The 24-year old player had a double-double of 23 points and 22 rebounds, while her team crushed Botas GA (#6, 12-7) with 21-point margin 78-57. Edremit maintains the 7th position in Turkish TKBL. Edremit is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 10-9 record. Weathersby turned to be Edremit's top player in her first season with the team. Former University of Alabama at Birmingham star has very solid stats this year. Weathersby is in league's top in points (6th best: 23.9ppg), rebounds (3rd best: 12.9rpg) and averages impressive 1.3bpg and 66.8% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Ameryst Alston (175-G-1993) of Elazig Karabulut. Alston had a very good evening with 36 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Of course Elazig Karabulut cruised to a 75-67 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Emlak 2 (#15, 5-14). Elazig Karabulut's 8th position in the standings has not changed. Her team lost some distance to top teams. But 10-9 record is not bad and everything may still change. Alston is a newcomer at Elazig Karabulut, but is already one of team's top players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 30.8ppg (#1). Her other stats are also decent: 8.1rpg and 5.5apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was American center Sharon Houston (191-C-1988) of Urla (#11). Houston scored 29 points and grabbed eighteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Houston's great performance Urla lost 85-88 to the higher-ranked Izmit (#3, 15-4). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Urla not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 13 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of her teammates, Houston could try to bring Urla's a little bit higher in the standings. Houston has a very solid season. In 6 games in Turkey she scored 21.7ppg. She also has 10.5rpg and FGP: 62.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Sasha Goodlett (195-C-1990) of Tarsus - 22 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Melis Lafatan (188-F-1991) of Tarsus - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists
6. Mireille Muganza (185-C-1990) of Diba Ankara - 20 points, 21 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Milena Marjanovic (193-C-1991) of Emlak 2 - 16 points and 17 rebounds
8. Aliyah Mazyck (175-G-1996) of Kirklareli - 28 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists
9. Betul Pehlivan (178-F-1988) of Izmit - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Amber Smith (180-G-1998) of Yalova Vip - 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
