Payne's 22 points and 7 rebounds give him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
Kwame Payne had a very impressive game in the last round for Ottos and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 5.
He had the game-high 22 points adding seven rebounds and six assists for Ottos in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Slam (#6, 2-4) with 31-point margin 81-50. Ottos is placed at 5th position in Antiguan league. Ottos is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 3-4 record. In the team's last game Payne had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Ottos, through which he has constantly improved. Payne has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in assists (4th best: 5.0apg) and averages solid 3.8spg and 53.4% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Israel Pulinario of Spanish Heat. He is a in his first season at Spanish Heat. In the last game Pulinario recorded impressive double-double of 30 points and 16 rebounds. Bad luck as Spanish Heat lost that game 74-82 to slightly higher-ranked Baldwin Braves (#7, 1-6). Spanish Heat are still at the very bottom. 7 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Pulinario is one of the most experienced players at Spanish Heat and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to Sergio Symister of Baldwin Braves (#7). Symister scored 24 points and grabbed ten rebounds. He was a key player of Baldwin Braves, leading his team to a 82-74 win against Spanish Heat (#8, 0-7). Baldwin Braves can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-6 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Symister has a very solid season. In 7 games in Antigua he scored 8.6ppg.

Liga Wplay Round 10: Storm is defeated by Cafeteros - by Eurobasket News
Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Storm (8-3) in Armenia on Friday night. Visitors were rolled over by second ranked Cafeteros (7-2) 88-51. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Cafeteros outrebounded Storm 48-31 including 17 on the offensive glass. International Alvaro Pena (197-1995) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard JaQuaylon Mays (185-2000, college: Fort Lewis) chipped in 16 points during the contest. At the losing side Argentinian Matias Solanas (192-1998) responded with 10 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cafeteros maintains second position with 7-2 record having 2 victories less than leader Carrib.Storm. Storm at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. They share the position with Titanes.
Important game to mention about took place in Cali. Team Cali's coach Guillermo Moreno rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cimarrones moved-up to third place. Team Cali at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Bucaramanga. Third ranked host Bucaros (8-4) defeated their biggest opponent Titanes (8-3) 80-74. Bucaros maintains third position with 8-4 record behind leader Carrib.Storm. Defending champion Titanes still keep top place with three games lost. They share the position with Carrib.Storm.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 10: Motilones lost to Piratas on the opponent's court 88-98. Team Cali managed to outperform Cimarrones in a home game 82-73. Carrib.Storm recorded a loss to Cafeteros on the road 90-81.

Evos Bogor - Tangerang 54-76

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 13th ranked Evos Bogor's (5-15) home loss to twelfth ranked Tangerang (7-13) 54-76 on Thursday. Tangerang shot 21 for 29 from the free-throw line, while Evos Bogor only scored four points from the stripe. Tangerang had a 37-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American Tyron Criswell (192-1994, college: Nevada) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!) and Jamaican-American center Anthony Allen (210-1992, college: OK State) supported him with 12 points and 21 rebounds. Even 14 points and 9 rebounds by American forward Andre Jackson (199-1994, college: Bowie St., agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) did not help to save the game for Evos Bogor. American-Jamaican center David Haye (183-1994, college: SUNY Delhi) added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Tangerang have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain twelfth position with 7-13 record. Evos Bogor lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with NSH. Tangerang will meet at home higher ranked Pelita Jaya (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Evos Bogor will have a break next round.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Jakarta: Pelita Jaya (#3) and Indonesia P. (#8). Pelita Jaya (18-2) smashed visiting Indonesia P. (9-12) by 21 points 79-58. They outrebounded Indonesia P. 47-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pelita Jaya made 7 blocks. It was a good game for guard Yesaya Saudale (178-2000) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 5 assists. American swingman Dominique Sutton (193-1986, college: NCCU) contributed with 9 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Ida Putra (183-2000) replied with 12 points and 5 assists and international Dame Diagne (197-2005) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Indonesia P.The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pelita Jaya have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Prawira. Indonesia P. at the other side keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. Criswell's double-double lands him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
28-year old power forward Tyron Criswell (192-PF-1994) had an amazing evening in the last round for Tangerang and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 36.
He had a double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds, while his team crushed Evos Bogor (#13, 6-15) with 22-point margin 76-54. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Tangerang maintains the 12th position in Indonesian league. Tangerang is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 7-13 record. In the team's last game Criswell had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Tangerang, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Tyron Criswell averages this season 16.3ppg and 8.1rpg.

Second best performed player last round was Anthony Johnson (203-PF-1988) of Dewa United. He is American forward in his first season at Dewa United. In the last game Johnson recorded impressive 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Dewa United lost that game 74-88 to the lower-ranked Hangtuah (#10, 8-13). Dewa United managed to keep the same 4th spot in the standings. His team's 15-6 record is not bad at all. Johnson is a newcomer at Dewa United and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.4ppg (#7). He also registered 10.1 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to another Tangerang's star - center Anthony Allen (210-C-1992). Allen scored 12 points and grabbed twenty one rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Tangerang, helping his team with a 76-54 easy win against slightly lower-ranked Evos Bogor (#13, 6-15). The chances of Tangerang not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 13 games, recording just seven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Allen could try to bring Tangerang's a little bit higher in the standings. Allen has individually a great season in Indonesia. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.3rpg (2nd best). He also has 2.8bpg and FGP: 58.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Brandone Francis (194-SF-1994) of Prawira - 29 points and 10 rebounds
5. Ronnie Boyce III (191-G-1995) of Hangtuah - 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Morakinyo Williams (209-C-1988) of Pacific Caesar - 20 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Arki Wisnu (187-SF-1988) of Satria Muda - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Jay Bowie (196-G/F-1992) of Bali Utd. - 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Muhammad Daffa (185-C-2000) of Bumi Borneo - 17 points and 8 rebounds
10. Dior Lowhorn (201-F-1987) of Bali Utd. - 16 points and 9 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Miami Heat fall to Celtics 104-103 on buzzer-beater, forcing Game 7 in Boston - by Eurobasket News
Derrick White (6'4''-G-1994, college: Colorado) scored on a putback with 0.1 seconds left and the Boston Celtics moved to the brink of the greatest comeback in NBA playoffs history, holding off the Miami Heat 104-103 on Saturday night to force a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference finals. Jayson Tatum (6'8''-F/G-1998, college: Duke) scored 31 points, Jaylen Brown (6'6''-G/F-1996, college: California) scored 26 and Marcus Smart (6'4''-G-1994, college: OK State) added 21 for the Celtics, who became only the fourth NBA team to erase a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series and force a deciding game. The others in that club - the 1951 New York Knicks in the NBA Finals, the 1994 Denver Nuggets in the second round and the 2003 Portland Trail Blazers in the first round - all lost Game 7, all on the road. Boston, however, is going home for its shot at history. Game 7 is Monday night on the Celtics' floor, a matchup that'll decide who meets the Western Conference champion Denver Nuggets in a title series that will start Thursday. Jimmy Butler (6'7''-G/F-1989, college: Marquette) made three free throws with 3.0 seconds left for a one-point Heat lead. Smart missed a 3-pointer, but White grabbed the rebound and scored as time expired. Butler scored 24 points and Caleb Martin (6'7''-F-1995, college: Nevada) had 21 for the Heat, who are trying to pull off their own improbable trek to the title series by being only the second No. 8 seed to make the NBA Finals. They've now lost as many games this week - three - as they had in their first 14 playoff games this spring combined on the way to ousting No. 1 Milwaukee, then No. 5 New York and taking what was supposed to be an insurmountable 3-0 lead over the second-seeded Celtics. The Celtics have now won five of their last six East finals games in Miami - a stretch that includes a Game 7 over the Heat last season to reach the NBA Finals. That one, obviously, ended the Heat season. At least this time, Miami still has a chance. The Heat are the 151st team to grab a 3-0 series lead in a best-of-seven. All 150 of the previous clubs finished the job. But the Celtics have made very clear that they have other ideas.

Bucks hiring Raptors' Adrian Griffin as coach, sources say - by Eurobasket News
The Milwaukee Bucks are hiring Toronto Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin as the franchise's next head coach, sources told ESPN on Saturday. The Bucks landed on Griffin as their choice Saturday morning and began negotiations on a multiyear contract that is expected to result in a formalized deal soon, sources said. Bucks general manager Jon Horst and team ownership became sold on Griffin's leadership presence, character and ability to oversee high-level defensive teams, sources said. Griffin will replace Mike Budenholzer , who was dismissed after five years following a first-round playoff loss to the Miami Heat. Griffin will take over a franchise that has had significant success in recent years around two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (6'11''-F-1994, agency: Octagon Europe) and is only two years removed from winning the NBA title. Each of three finalists for the job -- Griffin, Golden State Warriors associate head coach Kenny Atkinson and former Raptors coach Nick Nurse -- met with Antetokounmpo as part of the search process, sources said. Griffin, who spent the past four years as Nurse's top assistant in Toronto, is getting his first head-coaching job and comes with a reputation as a high-level defensive coach. He built his defensive system under Scott Skiles, Tom Thibodeau, Billy Donovan and Nurse. Griffin also built a reputation for his player development, which included his work with Jimmy Butler and Pascal Siakam. Griffin has history with Horst, who was in the front office when Griffin started his coaching career in Milwaukee in 2008. A steady climber as a top head-coaching candidate among the pool of league assistants, Griffin also had stops with Oklahoma City, Orlando and Chicago. Griffin played parts of nine seasons in the NBA, including stops with Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Houston and Seattle. He started eight games in the playoffs during the Mavericks' NBA Finals run in 2006. He was also voted MVP in both the Continental Basketball Association and United States Basketball League. Griffin, who played at Seton Hall, is the father of Atlanta Hawks forward Adrian Griffin Jr.

London Lightning win it all with decisive Game 5 victory - by Eurobasket News
The London Lightning captured their second consecutive National Basketball League of Canada championship with a 126-88 victory on Friday night at Budweiser Gardens. The Lightning made use of their entire roster and built an 11-point lead by halftime. London came out of the locker room and took over complete control from there with a massive 49 points in the third quarter avenging a 110-102 Windsor victory one night earlier at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ont. Lightning head coach Doug Plumb had a feeling he would see a different performance from the Lightning after that Game 4 loss that had seen the Express jump out to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter. 'If you had told me at the beginning of the season that we would have one game at home coming off of a back-to-back where their best players played 48 minutes and we didn't have to do the two-hour bus ride on the day of the game, I'm taking that ten times out of ten,' said Plumb. Jeremiah Mordi (6'5''-PG-1993, college: Queens, NY, agency: Green Sports Management) led the way offensively for London with a triple-double. Mordi had 37 points, 13 rebounds and ten assists. Guard Mike Nuga (6'2''-G, college: UNLV) added 23 points for the Lightning. London shot 49.5 per cent from the field. Plumb says there are certain player characteristics that he needs to see when building a team. 'The very first criteria is are they a winner,' admits Plumb. 'And then are they emotionally resilient and are they tough. Those three things combined give you the heart of a champion and all of our guys possess those things.' Windsor had been able to out-rebound the Lightning in the fourth game of the series but London owned the boards in Game 5 by a 58-42 margin. It was the third championship for the Lightning in the past four completed seasons and London's sixth in franchise history dating back to 2012 when the team was formed. The Express are next on that list with two. The Halifax Rainmen and the Moncton Magic are the only other teams in National Basketball League of Canada history to win it all. Neither one of those clubs is currently operating.

21-year old guard Stefan Miljenovic (190-G-2001) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked OKK Beograd and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 5 (Second Stage).
He had the game-high 31 points adding six rebounds and eight assists for OKK Beograd in his team's victory, helping them to crush Spartak (#3, 2-3) with 21-point margin 101-80. OKK Beograd maintains the 2nd position in their group in Serbian league. They are still close to the very top. OKK Beograd would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 4-1 record. In the team's last game Miljenovic had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He turned to be OKK Beograd's top player in his first season with the team. Slippery Rock University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Miljenovic is in league's top in points (4th best: 18.0ppg) and averages solid 40.4% from behind 3-point line.

Third place about best performers goes to another Borac CA's star - forward Sava Lesic (205-PF-1988, agency: Octagon Europe). Lesic showcased his all-around game by recording 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in the last round. He was another key player of Borac CA, helping his team with a 87-82 win against #1 ranked Mega BG in a game of the week. Borac CA is closer and closer to top of the standings in Super Liga B. They will still need more victories. But 4-1 record is not that bad... Lesic has a very solid season. In 3 games in Serbia he scored 10.3ppg.

Best players of Mexican LNBPF round 4 (by Hoops Agents) - by Eurobasket News

LNBPFw
sponsor
American Brooke McCarty-Williams (163-G-1995) had a great game in the last round for Astros and that's her to receive a Hoops Agents LNBPF Player of the Week award for round 4.
The 27-year old guard had the game-high 23 points adding six rebounds and five assists for Astros in her team's victory, helping them to beat Abejas (#9, 1-5) 81-66. Astros is placed at 4th position in Mexican LNBPF. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Astros will need more victories to improve their 5-3 record. In the team's last game McCarty-Williams had a remarkable 88.9% from 2-point range. She just recently signed at Astros, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Brooke McCarty-Williams averages this season 17.6ppg, 5.1rpg and 5.0apg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American power forward Lyndra Weaver (185-F/C-1987) of Libertadores. Weaver impressed basketball fans with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Libertadores lost that game 65-80 to the lower-ranked Halcones (#8, 2-5). This loss caused Libertadores to drop to 3rd position in the standings. Her team's 5-2 record is not bad at all. Weaver is one of the most experienced players at Libertadores and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was another Astros' star - American Jaelyn Brown (184-G/F-1998). Brown showcased her all-around game by recording 25 points, six rebounds and four assists in the last round. She was another key player of Astros, helping her team with a 87-54 easy win against the lower-ranked Abejas (#9, 1-5). Astros needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 5 victories and 3 lost games. Brown has a great season in Mexico. After only 8 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 12.5ppg (8th best).

Tall Ferns team for tour of Europe named - by Mike Lacey
In preparation for next month's FIBA Women's Asia Cup, the Sky Sport Tall Ferns will assemble for a preparation camp this weekend - before heading to Europe for friendly games against a trio of basketball powerhouses.

Head Coach Guy Molloy has today named a 12-strong squad for Europe, taken from the wider depth chart of Tall Ferns players. They are: Stella Beck, Tayla Dalton, Penina Davidson (190-F-1995, college: California), Kendell Heremaia, Grace Hunter, Ash Kelman-Poto, Charlisse Leger-Walker, Krystal Leger-Walker, Tera Reed, Ash Taia, Lilly Taulelei and Ritorya Tamilo.

The Tall Ferns two-week tour of Europe sees the squad face the Serbia, Turkey and Poland national teams over a five-game series of international friendlies. The FIBA Women's Asia Cup then tips off in Sydney from 26 June - 2 July 2023, with the Tall Ferns taking on Korea, China and Lebanon across three games of group play.

Coach Molloy says that a range of availability issues have impacted on the selection of his squad for Europe.

'I see Europe as a solid test event for our players to gain experience for the Women's Asia Cup; but availability means that we'll lean more on players from our wider depth chart for this tour,' says Molloy.

'Two players from our wider depth chart have been added back into the immediate squad for the camp and tour, in Grace [Hunter] and Esra [McGoldrick]. Grace comes in as she's positionally similar to Mary Goulding; a like-for-like player in terms of being a wing.

'And Esra has been added for training depth and to re-introduce her back into the wider squad. Tahlia [Tupaea] and Chevannah [Paalvast] are out due to injury while Lauryn [Hippolite] is with the U23 3x3 National Team bound for China. These players - and all of our immediate squad - are still well in the frame for Women's Asia Cup in a month's time.'

Breanna Stewart scores 21 points to pace the Liberty in 81-65 win over the Connecticut Sun - by Eurobasket News
The Liberty flipped a six-point halftime deficit in the third quarter by coming out hitting a flurry of threes on its way to defeating the Connecticut Sun, 81-65. The win gives the Liberty its second straight victory before hitting the road for two games against the Seattle Storm and Chicago Sky. Saturday's matinee started with a much slower pace compared to the first two games. The Liberty were met with much more resistance at the point of attack and weren't able to break loose in transition due to the Sun's defense. But after halftime, the tables quickly turned after an 11-3 run that included three treys from Courtney Vandersloot (5'8''-PG-1989, college: Gonzaga), Breanna Stewart (6'4''-F-1994, college: UConn) and Sabrina Ionescu (5'11''-PG-1997, college: Oregon). 'I think that shows growth in us as a team, being able to make an adjustment at halftime,' Vandersloot said postgame. 'We weren't playing to the best of our ability. And it felt kinda familiar to game one [loss against the Mystics] and the difference was that we came out and made adjustments and moved the ball a little bit better.' Sandy Brondello 's team got some early buckets as a result of Stewart and Stef Dolson creating opportunities from the free throw line, assisting on buckets from teammates cutting along the baseline. They combined for six assists in the first half and Vandersloot added five assists as well. 'I think it's so important that we have passing post players too,' Vandersloot said postgame. 'So when we get the ball and they're in that kind of position, and our guards are able to make cuts and they're able to deliver, it's really hard. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense. 'That's something we'll look forward to, playing through our post players and passing in the high post and mid post.' Stewart scored a team-high 21 points with six rebounds and five assists. Vandersloot had a double-double, scoring 18 points with 10 assists. Forward Kayla Thornton played her role as a disruptor on the defensive end Saturday, logging a +19 in 26 minutes played off the bench. She matched the Sun's physicality that led to the Liberty taking the lead for good in the second half. Stewart said postgame how excited she was when she found out Thornton joined the Liberty via trade in the offseason. 'Well, first of all, when Kayla was coming to New York, I was like 'S--t this is great,' Stewart said. 'I don't have to go against her. If you've been guarded by KT it's like physical, [she's] in you' Thornton is a 'blue collar' type of player, per Stewart, and the 6-1 forward acknowledged the importance of her playing physical defense on a team that 'everybody knows' can score at will. 'That's where I come in. That's my thing,' Thornton said about her defense. Nyara Sabally (6'5''-F-2000, college: Oregon), the 2022 first-round pick, made her WNBA debut Saturday after recovering from injuries. She poured in six points and three rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench. Jonquel Jones (6'6''-C-1994, college: GWU) played just 16 minutes against her former team. She dealt with foul trouble and scored seven points on 3-of-7 shooting. The Sun went up seven early in the first and stayed in the game despite a slow start from three-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas (6'2''-F-1992, college: Maryland), who finished with just five points and eight rebounds. Brionna Jones and DeWanna Bonner had success working in the paint to start the game. The tandem exhibited nice footwork, helping an offense that didn't get a fast break point until the second half. Tiffany Hayes led the way for the Sun with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. Brionna Jones finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while Bonner added 14 points.
