Dupree's double-double lands him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News

24-year old power forward Jalen Dupree (205-F/C-1998) had a great game in the last round for league's best team Piratas and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 9.
He had a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds, while his team outclassed Motilones (#4, 1-8) with 29-point margin 92-63. It allowed Piratas to consolidate first place in the Colombian league. Piratas have a solid 9-2 record. In the team's last game Dupree had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Piratas, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Jalen Dupree averages this season 14.1ppg and 6.7rpg.

Second best performed player last round was John Merchant (187-G-1989) of Team Cali. He is American guard in his first season at Team Cali. In the last game Merchant recorded impressive 28 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Of course he led Team Cali to another comfortable win 92-76 over Sabios (#5, 0-9) being unquestionably team leader. Team Cali's 4th position in Group B has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 4-5 record. Merchant is one of the most experienced players at Team Cali and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.3ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 6.7rpg and 4.2apg.

Third place about best performers goes to another Team Cali's star - forward Sebastian Ottonello (200-PF-1997). Ottonello scored 20 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Team Cali, helping his team with a 85-77 win against Sabios (#5, 0-9). The chances of Team Cali ranking at the top of Group B, however are very questionable as they have already lost 5 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Ottonello could help Team Cali to bring them higher in the standings. Ottonello has a very solid season. In 9 games in Colombia he scored 13.9ppg. He also has 6.3rpg and FGP: 58.1%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Soren De Luque (196-PF-1998) of Titanes - 20 points and 13 rebounds
5. Andre Souza) of Bucaros - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Beiker Anez) of Corsarios - 14 points and 13 rebounds
7. Franco Morales (179-G-1992) of Team Cali - 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
8. Desmond Holloway (194-SF-1990) of Piratas - 23 points and 9 rebounds
9. Josimar Ayarza (205-PF-1987) of Titanes - 24 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Jose Defelippo (186-SG-1997) of Titanes - 15 points and 3 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.

Ferreiras' double-double lands him Hoops Agents Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News

19-year old Luismal Ferreiras (197-SF-2003) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Indios and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 3.
He had a double-double of 28 points and 26 rebounds, while his team edged out Metros (#7, 1-6) 84-81. Indios is placed at 4th position in Dominican Rep. league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Indios will need more victories to improve their 4-3 record. In the team's last game Ferreiras had a remarkable 63.2% from 2-point range. He turned to be Indios' top player in his first season with the team. Ferreiras has impressive league stats. He leads league in rebounds with 11.7rpg. Ferreiras is in league's top in and averages solid 61.9% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Anyeuri Castillo (201-F-1997) of Soles. He is Dominican Rep.-American forward in his first season at Soles. In the last game Castillo recorded impressive double-double of 34 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Soles lost that game 91-103 to Reales (6-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Castillo is one of the most experienced players at Soles and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Michael Qualls (197-G-1994) of Metros (#7). Qualls got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. Despite Qualls' great performance Metros lost 107-124 to Titanes (#6, 3-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Metros can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-6 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Qualls has a very solid season. In 3 games in Dominican Republic he scored 18.7ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Derek St.Hilaire (183-PG-1998) of Titanes - 30 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Jeff Allen (201-C/F-1987) of Caneros - 27 points and 7 rebounds
6. Jassel Perez (195-G/F-2001) of Titanes - 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Emmitt Williams (198-F-1998) of Metros - 17 points and 13 rebounds
8. Tyree Crump (185-G-1997) of Caneros - 25 points, 2 rebounds and 7 assists
9. Jaison Valdez (188-PG-1995) of Leones - 17 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists
10. Miguel Simon (203-F) of Reales - 24 points and 3 rebounds

The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Emanuele Berti (Alba Berlin) Is Proud That The Guys Want To Improve And Understand The Meaning Of Team - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber

Emanuele Berti is originally from Italy and since 2019 with Alba Berlin. He came to Germany in 2018 and was a video scout with Global Sports Analytics. He began as a Video scout with Alba Berlin and JBBL assistant coach. He is the video coordinator of the club and works individually with the BBL team and is an assistant coach with the NBBL team since 2022. He spoke to eurobasket before the 2023 NBBL top 4 in Frankfurt, Germany.

How excited are you be at the 2023 NBBL top 4 in Frankfurt? What are you looking forward to most?

The top 4 is where everyone gets together at the end of the season. We really want that everything works out well for the 2004 generation. For some guys it will be the last 2 games of youth basketball. We want them to enjoy it.

Alba Berlin are the defending champions and had the best record in the NBBL. Is their energy and hunger now at a different level then maybe 3 months ago?

There are many stories to this top 4. The 2004 generation played against FC Bayern Munich 5 years ago in the U-14 final and won. Munich wants revenge and we want to prove we are the best. The Alba players lost with Bernau against Vechta while Urspring wants revenge against Bernau. There is a lot of hype building up. We want to prove why we play the way we do. Important for us is too improve each day so we are best prepared on the top 4 weekend.

The team has 7 guys back from last season's winning team, but also added new faces. You never want to compare teams, but is this team stronger than last years squad?

This team is different. It is hard to replace a guy like Gian Aydinoglu and we also lost Christoph Tilly. The role of Linus Ruff is bigger and Amon Dorries has a different game than Tilly. The positive aspect is that the core of the team remained. We kept the mentality and attitude of last season's team. The 2004 birth year guys have brought the energy and will to improve each day.

This team has experience, can score, defend with a passion and have hungry young players. What other strengths does this team have?

We have a good group of good guys. All guys are nice and there are no ego's. All care about each other. It makes our job a lot easier when kids want to improve and understand the meaning of team.

The team allows 59 points per game. What is so special about this team's defense and do the guys able to heighten it 2 more times?

That is our goal. We want to play aggressive and with energy. Our goal is to work together 5 vs the ball, 5 vs the rebound and 5 vs the pick and roll. Our energy is special. Our goal is to keep improving and fix the little details.

Alba Berlin split this season with other top team Young Dragons Vechta losing by 2 points in the first game and then winning by 23 points. Are the players aware how hungry Vechta will be for revenge?

Yes we are aware of their hunger and revenge. It is hard to compare the 2 games. In both games guys were missing from both teams. We have an extra motivation to play against Kaya Bayram who was with us last season. We love him. This game is also one against friends. We know that Vechta has to prove that they are better than last season.

Alba Berlin and Vechta are the favorites while Urspring and FC Bayern Munchen are also tough. How do you rate these 2 clubs in talent?

Both teams improved a lot this season. Munich had injuries but they have Ivan Khartchenkov back and Luis Wulf will play more. Munich depend a lot on their individual talent, but they are still a good team. Urspring is well coached and use a lot of energy on how they scout other teams. They have a sophisticated way to play and have a good system and know their strengths. They have 3 high quality players with Finn Pook, Jared Grey and Jorke Aav. They peaked against Ludwigsburg. They will be tough.
A very promising young player is Jack Kayil. How good is he and what do you appreciate most about his game?
His instincts make him special. He still needs to learn to play more adult and reading the game better is a challenge. He is an easy player to coach because he always gives his best. You don't need to motivate him. I'm proud to have him.

Two new players are Amon Doerries and Dorian Grosber. Talk a little about them and how their games will impact the game in Frankfurt?

Both impact the game with their effort and energy. They play defense without stopping. They can impact the game with their energy on transition and defense. They made good steps this season.

The heart and soul of the team are Linus Ruff, Elias Rapiqeue, Nils Machowski, Jamal Entezami and Rikus Schulte. Which guy has turned out to be the ultimate leader on the team?

I don't think that there is an ultimate leader. All show it in different ways. Rikus isn't the most vocal off the court, but on the court he plays by example. Elias and Nils have great personalities. Both are always helping others. Linus's game gives feeling to the team. His play makes others better. Elias is tough and leads by example. All are energetic and focused.

What exactly is your role as an assistant coach and how does your work shine through most?

I split time between the BBL and NBBL teams. With the NBBL team I do individual training and watch videos. With the BBL team I am the video coordinator and prepare clips of the Euroleague opponents. I cut videos and prepare stats.

What kind of an experience has it been working with Vladimir Bogojevic ? What have you appreciated most about him?

He is super. He is an example for all youth coaches. He has discipline and has the kids play the game the right way. You can always learn something from him. He isn't only a basketball teacher, but tries to teach the guys things for life. He is always there for the players on and off the court. He always tries to give advice. He is an educator that also teaches basketball.

How likely will it be that on Sunday night the German basketball community can celebrate 2 titles for Alba Berlin?

It depends on how we play. We have 2 teams and many ideas on how to play and defend. We all want to win. How well we play and if we win will depend how well we prepared and improved in the last 5 weeks.

Thanks Emanuele for the chat.

Celtics wake up, dismantle Heat 110-97 to force Game 6 in Eastern Conference finals - by Eurobasket News
The vise turned another rotation tighter on the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals. Their once-safe 3-0 series lead against the Boston Celtics has narrowed to 3-2 after the Celtics took Game 5, 110-97, Thursday. The vise is still tight on the second-seeded Celtics who have found some heart and some determination in the past two games against the Heat who are trying to become the second No. 8 seed to reach the NBA Finals. The Celtics started the game with the requisite urgency, grabbing a 28-13 lead late in the first quarter and 61-41 lead late in the second quarter. Derrick White (6'4''-G-1994, college: Colorado) led four Boston players in double figures with 24 points. Game 6 is Saturday in Miami (8:30 p.m. ET, TNT), and while technically, it's not a must-win for the Heat (it is for the Celtics), the Heat prefer to avoid a return trip to Boston for Game 7. History is in Miami's favor. A team with a 3-0 series lead in the NBA playoffs is 150-0. Just three teams have forced a Game 7 -- the Portland Trail Blazers were the most recent to do it against the Dallas Mavericks in 2003. The 1994 Denver Nuggets (lost to the Utah Jazz) and the 1951 New York Knicks (lost to the Rochester Royals) also did it. The Celtics have the talent. Do they have the intestinal fortitude? Jimmy Butler (6'7''-G/F-1989, college: Marquette) and Bam Adebayo (6'10''-C-1997, college: Kentucky) were the only Heat starters in double-digits in points, and Miami's starters were outscored 82-35 through three quarters. The Heat were without Gabe Vincent (6'3''-G-1996, college: UCSB) (sprained left ankle), and he is Miami's third-leading scorer in the playoffs, averaging 13.1 points, including 17.5 points on 50% 3-point shootings in the Celtics series.

Express answer challenge to force NBL of Canada final to the limit against Lightning - by Eurobasket News
The Windsor Express answered the challenge. Facing elimination, the third-seeded Express refused to fold and rode a roller coaster of emotions to the finish for a 110-102 win over the top-seeded London Lightning on Thursday at the WFCU Centre. ' (Thursday) we had a meeting with our team and we wanted the guys that could go out and go to war,' Express head coach Bill Jones said. 'They went out there and started the game with that mentality. They had a slight bump, but when it counted they came out there in the fourth quarter, when it for us to play (Friday), and they made it happen.' With Thursday's win, the Express will force a fifth and deciding game in the best-of-five NBL of Canada final against the defending champion Lightning. 'I thought that they thought maybe we were done,' Express forward Justin Moss (6'7''-C-1993, college: Buffalo) said. 'That we were going to give up, but no, we're fighting for our lives. 'We feel like we're a better team. We gave ourselves a fighting chance to play (Friday) for all the marbles.' The Express looked as though they would run away with the game early with London hitting just one-of-14 shots to start the game and the Express building an 18-2 lead. 'Our defence, in the beginning, was crucial,' Moss said. 'We gave ourselves enough cushion to push the tempo and play our game.' But the Lighting countered and took their first lead of the game less than five minutes into the second quarter. 'We're our own enemy,' Lightning guard Jermaine Haley (6'7''-G-1997, college: WVU) said. 'We give away wins, teams don't beat us and that's what happened (Thursday).' The six-foot-seven Haley was a big reason London was able to get back into the game. His size allowed him defend Windsor's big players while creating mismatches on offence as he finished with 41 points and 10 rebounds. 'The shame is Jermaine Haley put together an absolute masterpiece and it was wasted,' London head coach Doug Plumb said. Every time the Lightning would get back into the game, the Express would find an offensive spurt to retake the lead. The six-foot-seven Moss had his best game of the series with 22 points and 12 rebounds with eight coming on the offensive glass. 'I don't feel any of their bigs can box me out or guard me unless they hold me and the refs don't call it,' Moss said. Not only did Windsor hold a 51-44 edge in rebounds overall, the Express picked up 20 rebounds on the offensive end. Ja'Myrin Jackson (6'4''-G/F-1998) finished with 23 points for the Express. Latin Davis (6'0''-PG-1997, college: WSU, agency: VM Hoops Agency) and Tanner Stuckman (6'9''-F-1997, college: Quincy, agency: Helping Ballers) each added 18 points for Windsor while Billy White (6'8''-PF-1989, college: SDSU) added 10 points and 10 rebounds while play all 48 minutes along with Davis. 'We won up there and the way our mentality is, no fear, we have nothing to lose,' said Jones, whose team beat Sudbury in Game 5 on the road to get to the final. 'No one expected us to be in the final. No one expected us to be in a Game 5. So, we can just go out and play. They've got all the pressure on them. They understand we're playing for all the marbles.''We gave up 20 offensive rebounds,' Haley said. 'You give a team that many more possessions, you're not giving yourself a chance to win.'

London Lightning win it all with decisive Game 5 victory - by Eurobasket News
The London Lightning captured their second consecutive National Basketball League of Canada championship with a 126-88 victory on Friday night at Budweiser Gardens. The Lightning made use of their entire roster and built an 11-point lead by halftime. London came out of the locker room and took over complete control from there with a massive 49 points in the third quarter avenging a 110-102 Windsor victory one night earlier at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ont. Lightning head coach Doug Plumb had a feeling he would see a different performance from the Lightning after that Game 4 loss that had seen the Express jump out to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter. 'If you had told me at the beginning of the season that we would have one game at home coming off of a back-to-back where their best players played 48 minutes and we didn't have to do the two-hour bus ride on the day of the game, I'm taking that ten times out of ten,' said Plumb. Jeremiah Mordi (6'5''-PG-1993, college: Queens, NY, agency: Green Sports Management) led the way offensively for London with a triple-double. Mordi had 37 points, 13 rebounds and ten assists. Guard Mike Nuga (6'2''-G, college: UNLV) added 23 points for the Lightning. London shot 49.5 per cent from the field. Plumb says there are certain player characteristics that he needs to see when building a team. 'The very first criteria is are they a winner,' admits Plumb. 'And then are they emotionally resilient and are they tough. Those three things combined give you the heart of a champion and all of our guys possess those things.' Windsor had been able to out-rebound the Lightning in the fourth game of the series but London owned the boards in Game 5 by a 58-42 margin. It was the third championship for the Lightning in the past four completed seasons and London's sixth in franchise history dating back to 2012 when the team was formed. The Express are next on that list with two. The Halifax Rainmen and the Moncton Magic are the only other teams in National Basketball League of Canada history to win it all. Neither one of those clubs is currently operating.

Kwara Falcons The Most American Team In Africa: Here's How It Worked For Them - by Eurobasket
The Kwara Falcons are a Nigerian team hailing from Ilorin, Kwara. They compete in the Nigerian Premier League (NPL). They recently gained fame due to their first-ever championship win in 2022 against the Nigeria Customs. This immediately advanced them into the 2023 season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Their recent victory may have come as a surprise to them as opposing teams such as Benue Braces, Lagos Islanders and Nigeria Customs were decidedly the crowd favorites.

Ajileye Gideon, Falcons Captain, professed the honor that such a win represented league athletes throughout the country.

"Winning the league was one of my goals,' he admitted. 'Though it was not an easy task but with the caliber of players I ended the season with, it made it possible. I feel great to be part of the history-making team because for Kwara Falcons this is the first time of reaching this height.'

The Falcons have made quite a name for themselves since their victory. Their training and style of play bear some similarities to that of American basketball and have aided in their rise and prestige within the Nigerian community.

Their success will serve to inspire teams of every sport to incorporate fresh techniques and methods in order to improve performances. Although there are currently not many sports betting sites that offer bets for African teams, the Falcons have proven their significance and may attract attention from such companies soon enough.

The Falcons' dominance on the court may also garner the interest of international sports companies in time, resulting in further exposure to African sport culture by extension. Their recent championship has captivated the hearts of many, African and otherwise, gaining them more support worldwide. Their story is definitely one for the history books, as it showcases the initiative, commitment, and determination of the team in securing their victory.

Moreover, the Falcons' remarkable achievements have not gone unnoticed in the sports betting industry. While there are currently limited sports betting sites that offer wagers for African teams, the Falcons' impressive track record and growing reputation may soon attract the attention of such companies. As their dominance on the court continues, it is possible that international sports companies will take notice, leading to increased exposure for African sports culture as a whole. The Falcons' recent championship victory has captured the hearts of fans worldwide, both within Africa and beyond, gaining them a broader support base.

Baba Jibril, Falcons head coach, and former Ebun Comets national player, commented on how fulfilling this league championship has been since his numerous league titles.

"It took me two days to digest the fact that I had actually led Kwara Falcons to win the Nigeria Premier Basketball League title. I dare say, it's a great and wonderful feeling," he confessed.

After the Falcons missed last year's title to Rivers Hoopers, the road to the 2022 championship was no easy road. Nigeria Customs had just dominated their previous rivals, and so, tensions were understandably high as the championship approached.

"At that point, I knew the league title could go either way and we had to put in an extra effort to emerge the new champion winning 78-53 against the Nigeria Customs,' Jibril said. 'Kwara Falcons win is not going to be a flash in the pan. As a team, we're aware of the challenges before us and have our minds made up to face them. One of such challenges is ensuring that we stay focused and play like a champion always. We're faced with the BAL which is an entirely different level of basketball."

The Basketball Africa League recently began a few months ago, but unfortunately, the Falcons' first game against the Rwanda Energy Group ended in a defeat. Jibril has noted that the BAL is a completely different ball game that presents its own unique set of challenges, and his team will need to remain focused and improve their game in order to be successful. He hints that strategies are being put in place to strengthen the team and its roster to continue to achieve success.

To the Falcons, coach Jibril encouraged them to strive for greatness and avoid easing up on their drive to win.

'That's why it is very good to have experience. The advice is, this is not the end, and this is not the point at which to be complacent, because we have won a BAL ticket. No,' he advised. 'They need to be more committed to training, be disciplined and determined. This is a starting point. We have to build on what we achieved. To be at the top may be relatively easy, but sustaining it is difficult. Lots of focus will be on us. I don't want it to be as if we won by chance.'

Experienced American DeMarcus Cousins (211-C/F-1990) had an amazing evening in the last week for Guaynabo and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for week 31.
The 32-year old had the game-high 37 points adding seven rebounds and three assists for Guaynabo in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Mayaguez (#4, 11-17) 117-115. Guaynabo maintains the 4th position in their group in Puerto Rican BSN. Guaynabo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 14-12 record. In the team's last game Cousins had a remarkable 81.8% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Guaynabo, being already a very valuable addition to the team. DeMarcus Cousins averages this season 19.8ppg and 9.9rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was young American point guard David Stockton (180-PG-1991) of second-ranked Santurce. Stockton impressed basketball fans with 39 points, 2 rebounds and 7 assists. Bad luck as Santurce was edged by the lower-ranked Humacao (#5, 11-16) 120-117. Despite lost game Santurce moved up to second position in Group B. His team's 15-12 record is not bad at all. Stockton is one of the most experienced players at Santurce and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.0ppg (#5). He also recorded 6.9 assists per game.

The third best performed player last week was American forward Christopher Ortiz (203-PF-1993) of Manati (#5). Ortiz got into 30-points club by scoring 38 points in the last week. He went also for six rebounds . Despite Ortiz's great performance Manati lost 87-96 to slightly higher-ranked Arecibo (#3, 15-12). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Manati not to end season at such low position in Group A, however are less than slim as they have already lost 18 games, recording just ten victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Ortiz could try to bring Manati's a little bit higher in the standings. Ortiz has individually a great season in Puerto Rico. After 28 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.9ppg (9th best). He also has FGP: 50.2% and 3PT: 44.9%. Christopher Ortiz has also Puerto Rican passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Travis Trice II (183-PG-1993) of Humacao - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 14 assists
5. DJ Hogg (203-F-1996) of Mayaguez - 39 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Hassan Whiteside (213-C-1989) of Quebradillas - 26 points and 15 rebounds
7. Davon Jefferson (203-F-1986) of Manati - 17 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists
8. James Ennis (201-F/G-1990) of Humacao - 26 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists

10. Jordan Cintron (203-F-1998) of Mayaguez - 24 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists

Brancou Badio claims Spanish Liga Endesa weekly honour - by Eurobasket News
Senegalese Brancou Badio (188-G-1999) had a great game in the last round for Manresa and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 34.
The 23-year old guard had the game-high 24 points adding two rebounds and six assists for Manresa in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Gran Canaria (#6, 19-15) with 30-point margin 105-75. Manresa maintains the 14th position in Spanish Liga Endesa. Manresa is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 12-22 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Badio as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Brancou Badio averages this season 7.4ppg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young Trinidad and Tobago forward Malique Lewis (202-F-2004) of Fuenlabrada. Lewis impressed basketball fans with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Fuenlabrada lost that game 72-102 to the higher-ranked Obradoiro (#11, 14-20). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Fuenlabrada is still at the dead bottom 18th position. 30 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories Fuenlabrada managed to get this year. Lewis is well-known by Fuenlabrada fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was American Ethan Happ (208-C/F-1996) of Rio Breogan (#10). Happ scored 18 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Rio Breogan, leading his team to a 80-77 win against slightly higher-ranked Valencia (#8, 17-17). The chances of Rio Breogan ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 20 games, recording just fourteen victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Happ could help Rio Breogan to bring them higher in the standings. Happ has a great season in Spain. After 34 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 7.9rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Kameron Taylor (198-G/F-1994) of Girona - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Tyson Perez (202-PF-1996) of Real Betis - 17 points and 13 rebounds
6. Chris Jones (188-G-1993) of Valencia - 20 points and 7 assists
7. Thomas Bropleh (196-G-1991) of Granada - 23 points and 5 rebounds
8. Tyson Carter (193-G-1998) of Unicaja - 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Walter Tavares (220-C-1992) of Real Madrid - 10 points and 9 rebounds
10. Giorgi Shermadini (217-C-1989) of Tenerife - 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists

Basket SKT Ieper (1 Landelijke) agreed terms with 30-year old international small forward Hanne Mestdagh (178cm-1993, college: Colorado State) for new 2023-24 season. Mestdagh played last season at Kortrijk Spurs in the Top Division Women. In 22 games she had 7.6ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.1spg. 1 Landelijke will be definitely a better match and she can see more playing time. The previous (2021-22) season she was tested by inexio Royals Saarlouis in German league. The other team she played shortly was AZS UMCS Lublin in Polish EBLK. Beckmann named Women's Basketball Head Coach at Independence CC - by Eurobasket News
Rob Beckmann has been named the new Head Women's Basketball Coach at Independence Community College. 'Coach Beckmann is a man of integrity who puts student-athletes first,' ICC President Dr. Vincent Bowhay said. 'I am excited to see all that he will accomplish in this leadership role.' Beckmann served as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for previous head coach Jim Turgeon over the past three seasons at ICC, accruing 60 total wins. During that time, the Pirates won back-to-back championships, including the 2021 NJCAA Region VI Championship - the program's first in 25 years - and the 2022 Jayhawk Conference Championship with 20 total wins over league opponents. 'Coach Beckmann has been pivotal in the success of the women's basketball program over the past three years,' ICC Athletic Director Melissa Anderson said. 'His competitive spirit, passion for the game, and true belief in junior college athletics will help him continue to grow our program. I am excited to watch Coach Beckmann make this program his own.' Upon arriving in Independence, Beckmann immediately recruited and signed Valentina Ojeda. This past season, Ojeda led the conference in offensive field goal percentage and was second in scoring. She broke the Pirates' 30-year single-game scoring record with 42 points and earned over a dozen Division-1 scholarship offers. Ojeda was also awarded NJCAA All-American and KJCCC First-Team All-Conference honors. The previous season, Beckmann was the position coach for point guard Maisa Marcal. During that year, Marcal surpassed 1,000 total career points and won 2022 Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year. Marcal was also a NJCAA All-American and KJCCC First-Team All-Conference selection. She was one of the most recruited JUCO players nationally in 2022 with two dozen Division-1 offers. 'I've always believed that JUCO is the ultimate place to chase your dreams,' Coach Beckmann said. 'If you're overlooked or undervalued or just looking for an opportunity, there's a place for you in JUCO to bet on yourself and prove your worth. You can look at our track record - there is no better spot in the country to chase your dreams than to be an Independence Pirate.' Before coming to Indy, Beckmann was the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach at the State College of Florida in Bradenton, Florida. While at SCF, Beckmann was the architect of one of the fastest and most prolific offenses nationally in Men's NJCAA Division-1, as the Manatees averaged 29.7 transition points per game during their 2019-20 campaign and led the entire state of Florida in scoring for the first half of the season. During his two seasons helping guide the Manatees, SCF had its most successful two-year run of the current century, winning back-to-back Suncoast Conference Tournament Championships. On that team, Beckmann coached future Missouri Tigers star D'Moi Hodge who was among the nation's top scorers in junior college. During the 2022-23 season at Missouri, Hodge broke the school record for steals in a single season with 91. The previous record of 76 had lasted for 36 years. He was also the Tigers' second-leading scorer. Hodge is projected as a possible second-round NBA Draft pick in 2023. At SCF, Beckmann also coached Isiah Dasher, who played for the St. Peter's Peacocks during their historic Elite 8 run during March Madness in 2022. 'I've been unbelievably lucky to recruit and coach some amazing players, both in college and going way back to when I coached high school and travel ball,' Coach Beckmann said. 'Ultimately, that's my motivation - the players. I'm motivated by pushing them to the next level and seeing their families and communities proud of their success. But most importantly, I love to see student-athletes achieve their dreams and be proud of themselves. I plan to continue that tradition as Head Coach at Independence. We're going to recruit and produce players that the college and community will be proud of.'
