Haylen Washington claims Bolivian Libobasquet weekly honour - by Eurobasket News
The 28-year old guard had a double-double of 40 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team beat La Paz (#10, 3-11) 101-93. Univ.Sucre is placed at 4th position in Bolivian Libobasquet. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Univ.Sucre will need more victories to improve their 8-6 record. In the team's last game Washington had a remarkable eight three-pointers out of 14 attempts. He just recently signed at Univ.Sucre, being already a very valuable addition to the team. College of Coastal Georgia graduate has very impressive stats this year. Washington is in league's top in points (4th best: 22.0ppg), rebounds (5th best: 10.4rpg) and averages solid 56.0% FGP. Worth to mention Washington played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American guard Irin Stark (185-G-1989) of La Paz. Stark impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 30 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as La Paz lost that game 93-101 to the higher-ranked Univ.Sucre (#4, 8-6). La Paz are still at the very bottom. 11 lost games are too many comparing to just three victories La Paz managed to get this year. Stark is one of the most experienced players at La Paz and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 24.4ppg (#3). He also registered 7.6 boards per game. The third best performed player last round was Argentinian Rolando Vallejos (195-SF-2000) of San Simon (#3). Vallejos showcased his all-around game by recording 27 points, sixteen rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. Despite Vallejos' great performance San Simon lost 81-85 to #1 ranked Pichincha. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing San Simon needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 8 victories and 5 lost games. Vallejos has a great season in Bolivia. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 24.4ppg (2nd best), rebounds with 11.4rpg (3rd best) and assists with 4.7apg (best passer). He also has FGP: 66.7% and 3PT: 41.1%. Other top performing players last week: 4. Rene Calvo (193-F/G-1993) of Pichincha - 27 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists 5. Juan Martin Bello (200-F-1999) of CAN Oruro - 26 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Milos Petkovic (204-F/C-1991) of San Simon - 21 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Julian Morales) of Leones - 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 8. Dariel Maza (C-1991) of La Paz - 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Torey James (198-G-2000) of Univ.Sucre - 16 points and 9 rebounds 10. Claudio Gonzales (193-SF-2004) of La Paz - 27 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Anthony Barber claims CEBL Hoops Agents weekly honour - by Eurobasket News
The 28-year old playmaker had the game-high 34 points adding five rebounds and three assists for Scarborough in his team's victory, helping them to beat Edmonton (5-4) 88-83. Scarborough is placed at 5th position in CEBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Scarborough will need more victories to improve their 5-4 record. In the team's last game Barber had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He just recently signed at Scarborough, being already a very valuable addition to the team. North Carolina State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Barber is in league's top in points (3rd best: 23.6ppg), assists (8th best: 4.9apg) and averages solid 52.7% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American shooting guard Ahmed Hill (196-SG-1995) of Montreal. Hill impressed basketball fans with 32 points and 5 rebounds. It was enough for Montreal to edge slightly higher-ranked Ottawa (#7, 4-5) by 3 points 86-83. Montreal's 9th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 4-6 record. Hill is one of the most experienced players at Montreal and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.4ppg (#6). The third best performed player last round was American MJ Walker (196-G-1998) of Vancouver (#8). Walker scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. Despite Walker's great performance Vancouver lost 84-93 to the higher-ranked Winnipeg (#1, 7-3). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Vancouver ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 5 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Walker could help Vancouver to bring them higher in the standings. Walker has a very solid season. In 6 games in CEBL he scored 14.3ppg. Other top performing players last week: 4. Zane Waterman (203-F-1995) of Brampton - 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Kadre Gray (186-G-1997) of Ottawa - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Thomas Kennedy (206-F-2000) of Scarborough - 18 points and 10 rebounds 7. Deng Adel (201-F-1997) of Ottawa - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists 8. Teddy Allen (198-G-1998) of Winnipeg - 28 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists 9. E.J. Anosike (201-G/F-1998) of Winnipeg - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Zena Edosomwan (206-C/F-1993) of Ottawa - 11 points and 11 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.

A Little Love From Overseas For Lebron James From Chase Adams (Dresden Titans) - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber |
Chase Adams (176-SG-1988, college: Pittsburgh) is a 34 year old 176cm guard that is played his 11th professional season and first with the Dresden Titans. Over his career, he has spent the whole time overseas in Germany and has played with teams like Dortmund, Jena, Bochum, Paderborn, Hanau, Coburg, Rostock, and Trier having amassed more than 150 Pro A games. He began his basketball career at Mount St Joseph High school and then played 3 years at Centenary College, Louisiana and finished at Pittsburgh (NCAA). He spoke to eurobasket about Lebron James becoming the NBA's all-time leading scorer. Lebron James has beaten Kareem Abdul Jabbar's NBA all-time scoring record. Did you stay up to watch history? I had every intention to watch that incredible moment in NBA history but I couldn't cut it. How does one put this record into perspective best? It stood almost 40 years? We can't run with the narrative he's not a scorer over 38k points in 20 seasons, the closest amongst active players is over 10k behind (KD). Unprecedented Greatness for such a scrutinized athlete, we won't appreciate him truly until he's removed from the game. He scored 38 points in 26 minutes. Was it another normal day at the office? Amazing to witness his ability to adapt and deepen his scoring versatility, that's not normal though. How much is that ball going to be worth? If it is up for sale, at least a quarter million, I seen someone selling sand from the beach Tom Brady was sitting on. Russell Westbrook made the pass. Do you think that in 20 years the pass could be remembered more than his triple doubles? Him averaging triple doubles over several seasons is more memorable. His record breaking basket was a step back over Kenrich Williams. Is that the kind of shot you expected knowing the kind of player he is? Or would you have expected a dunk for the spectacular finish? A stepback seems fitting, he's hit a lot of clutch shots like that. There obviously is a lot of respect for Kareem, by the basketball world, but what would have happened on social media if Lebron had gotten the record with a sky hook shot? Pure Comedy! There would be a million memes running for days and analyst like Skip Bayless would deem it distasteful. Kareem is such a gentleman. You didn't grow up with him, but what does his legacy mean to younger guys? Can they even understand what that guy did? I doubt the younger generations understand, let alone care. Each era has special players and moments that define the game we love today, my hope is one day they do their research to appreciate all the legends that came before. Lebron will have more than 40,000 points when it's all over. Back in 1984 people said it would never be broken? Will this record be broken? When they start changing the rules in 50 years of course. If Luka Doncic continues to play to 40 stays fit and becomes a physical specimen like Lebron, could he dethrone him? Thats hard to fathom Luka gaining a physique and athleticism like LeBron. Even if he's healthy for that long, his passion & desire has to be at a high level. LeBron still operates like he has that chip on his shoulder. Does this record finally give Lebron the GOAT status over Michael Jordan? I'll wait till he officially hangs it up, there's still more history to be written. What is your favorite Lebron moment that you witnessed live or on TV? 2016 Finals should be #1 on everyone's list Thanks Chase for the chat. |

Hungary U19 started with a victory - by Eurobasket News |
Hungary U19 - South Korea U19 85-59 (U19 World Cup) Hungarian U19 national team started the match brilliantly, in the first two minutes the team produced a 9-0 run, and the Korean timeout arrived. We had to wait 3 minutes for the first guest basket, Moon and Lee Haesol (190-F-2004) also came in from a distance, so only three points separated the sides (9-6). Lee threw a three again, Kornel Varadi (198-G-1987) didn't wait any longer with the timeout. After a nice play, Csuti was left empty under the backboard, then he fought hard for an offensive rebound, his reward was a two plus one. ZTE's new signing Peter Csataljay (175-G/F-2004) increased our lead by two points, then scored a triple, and between the two came a Korean double. After Sagodi's basket, the difference was already in double digits, Seok sold his penalties, the quarter was closed by Gergely Schmera (206-F-2004)'s points, so we expected the continuation with a 12-point advantage. 25-13 The game continued with Botond Cseh (191-G-2004)'s basket, Yun scored a triple in response. Moon brought his team closer with a kick, the Hungarian team's offensive game was very sloppy, fortunately our team countered this with a good defense. Csuti broke a nearly four-minute basketball silence with two penalties, Hajdu scored one from a second chance. Peter Csataljay did not make a mistake from the line again, the Asians asked for time (18-33). Robert Meszlenyi (192-PG-2004)'s distribution was converted by Peter Csataljay for three points, Lee Haesol scored the triple with a foul, and he also threw in the extra one. Gergely Schmera remained completely empty under the backboard, Moon's two penalties hit the target, then he answered a two with a three, Seok also scored from a distance, Kornel Varadi called for time (40-30). In the remaining minute and a half, only one Moon triple was scored, so the Hungarians went into halftime with a seven-point advantage. 40-33 Seok stole the ball and threw an empty shot, Peter Csataljay's floater was accurate, Moon scored both of his penalties, Cseh made a great break. Hajdu's corner triple fell in, and in the end the Koreans called time with a 13-point difference. Yun's two penalty kicks hit the target, and Seok's jumper brought Korea under 10. Peter Csataljay hit a triple again, Gergely Schmera added two points to the lead. Yun cornered until it remained empty, Robert Meszlenyi and Toth responded with 2 points each. After Ku's two, Hajdu scored a three, and Yun's four points closed the quarter. 62-49 The final stage started with a Korean penalty, Sagodi scored two points from a second chance, and Lee converted both of his penalties. Hegeds scored a triple from the corner, Csuti made a jumper, Cseh left a point on the line (70-53). H. Lee's pace dropped, Gergely Schmera was able to stand on the line, he scored one out of two. Peter Csataljay increased the difference to 20 points four and a half minutes before the end, so the match was decided. The national team started with a confident, great game and victory in Debrecen. 85-59. Courtesy of: postsen.com |

Ray Allen and Indian Basketball - What's the Link? - by Eurobasket |
India doesn't have a tradition of basketball as it does for cricket. Currently, the country is 82 on FIBA's ranking, including 161 countries. It doesn't mean Indians don't enjoy basketball, though. In 2020, there were over 90 million fans nationwide already. Unsurprisingly, the NBA has its eyes on this growing market, and it's also investing in the development of the sport in the country. Enter Ray Allen, a two-time NBA champion who is part of an ongoing NBA effort to expand its popularity overseas. How is it going? Spreading the Word The NBA is one of the most-watched basketball leagues worldwide, and it's like it has never left the top. Still, the Association invests considerable effort and resources to bring its name further. It's been over a decade since NBA stars and businessmen started visiting India, trying to build bridges and foster new audiences.
Investing in the sport's development and popularity goes beyond promoting games, sponsoring teams, or greater media coverage. According to Scott Levy, managing director of the Association in Asia, bringing it to younger generations is necessary, stimulating the creation of junior teams and training centres. The Reliance Foundation Junior NBA was built in 2013 as a part of this effort. This foundation provides free and nationwide training to kids and young athletes. The Association also has a headhunting agency in the country, seeking new talents to join the NBA Academy. Basketball and Online Gaming Although India remains a cricket nation, basketball's popularity is increasing. It won't be easy to find an online sportsbook without betting options for the sport. It's been proven already that sports betting increases fanbase engagement and television viewership. According to research conducted by CRG Global, about 60% of NFL fans said they watch more games when they're betting on them. It's an understandable phenomenon: if you put your money into a game, you're more likely to watch it until the end just to see if your bet will succeed. India also has a very vibrant online gambling/betting scene. So, having basketball in sportsbooks and online casinos is another way to promote the sport and increase its audience. The search term 'find the best online casinos India' will return many sites that potentially feature your favourite basketball-themed games. A Special Visit Ray Allen is a celebrity for basketball fans. Indeed, his name is in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, an honour for few. He was part of the NBA All-Stars nearly a dozen times and won the league twice. Undoubtedly, Ray Allen is an example for aspiring Indian athletes. In May, Allen spent four days in the country. Between May 12 and May 16, the former champion visited key installations in the country, such as the NBA Academy, led 50 students at a basketball clinic, and got acquainted with NBA school programs in the country. He also took time to watch an IPL match. Ahead of his visit, he told the press he was very excited to be part of the NBA's continued effort to promote the sport in the country. Ray also remarked that about three-quarters of the NBA's top players are foreigners. He concludes from this fact that there's outstanding basketball being played in other countries as well, and soon enough, the country's leadership in the sport will no longer be undisputable. Overall, it's excellent news for the sport and a sign that American players will have to train harder to face the future generations fostered in high-quality training centres worldwide. The Next Quarter The investments coming from the National Basketball Association are sizable. Apart from the academy, the clinic and the headhunting agency, the Association has already built 100 basketball courts in the country. The Sacramento Kings, owned by the Mumbai-born businessman Vivek Ranadive, has a Hindi version of its official website; so far, it's the only American team targeting the Indian market so specifically. The team played against the Indiana Pacers in Mumbai, in 2019, in one of the many events promoted by the Association in India. The impact of a more comprehensive and professional media coverage of events is also undeniable. In 2012, a partnership between a local media group and Sony helped increase viewership considerably. Likewise, more recent partnerships, such as the one signed with Viacom18 to broadcast NBA's live games on its two TV channels, MTV and Vh1, and online platforms like JioTV and VOOT, are expected to increase the league's reach. Additionally, Viacom18 will develop relevant programming talking about basketball. It'll report the latest news, daily highlights, and more. |

Best players of Indonesian IBL round 52 - by Eurobasket News
The 27-year old power forward had a double-double of 41 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team crushed NSH (#14, 6-24) with 23-point margin 84-61. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. Hangtuah is placed at 11th position in Indonesian IBL. Hangtuah is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 11-18 record. In the team's last game Diankulu had a remarkable 60.7% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Hangtuah, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Lewis Diankulu averages this season 14.7ppg and 7.9rpg. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American swingman Tyron Criswell (192-F/G-1994) of Tangerang. Criswell impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. It was enough for Tangerang to edge slightly lower-ranked Indonesia P. (#10, 12-18) by 2 points 69-67. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Tangerang keeps 9th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 13-17 record. Criswell is one of the most experienced players at Tangerang and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. The third best performed player last round was American Cameron Coleman (198-SF-1992, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) of Bima Perkasa (#6). Coleman showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. Despite Coleman's great performance Bima Perkasa lost 76-81 to slightly higher-ranked Dewa United (#4, 20-10). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Bima Perkasa needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 18 victories and 12 lost games. Coleman has a great season in Indonesia. After 30 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.9ppg (9th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Andre Jackson (199-F-1994) of Evos Bogor - 25 points and 9 rebounds 5. Kaleb Gemilang (184-F-1991) of Dewa United - 17 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Anthony Johnson (203-PF-1988) of Dewa United - 13 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Dame Diagne (197-PF-2005) of Indonesia P. - 19 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists 8. Daniel Wenas (190-SG-1992) of Hangtuah - 9 points and 10 rebounds 9. Anthony Allen (210-C-1992) of Tangerang - 11 points and 11 rebounds 10. Muhammad Yugie (188-SG-1994) of NSH - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.

Spurs To Sign Charles Bediako, Setric Miller Jr. - by Eurobasket News |
The Spurs are reportedly adding two new undrafted prospects to their comprehensive haul this week. Former Alabama center Charles Bediako (7'0''-C-2002, agency: Green Sports Management) will sign a one-year deal with the Spurs, agent Daniel Green informs Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. Terms of the agreement aren't known, but it'll likely be non-guaranteed, perhaps with Exhibit 10 language. Ex-Toledo senior small forward Setric Millner Jr. (6'7''-F) is inking an Exhibit 10 training camp deal, sources tell Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress. Exhibit 10 contracts can be converted to two-way deals or can put a player on track to receive a bonus worth up to $75K if he's waived before the regular season and then spends at least 60 days with his team's G League affiliate. During a two-year college career, the seven-foot Bediako was named to the 2023 All-SEC Tourney and SEC All-Defense teams. Across his two college seasons with the Crimson Tide, he averaged 6.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.7 BPG, 0.7 APG and 0.6 SPG across 19.3 MPG. Millner averaged 15.9 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 1.7 APG, and 1.1 SPG during 2022/23. He was a two-time All-MAC and a 2023 All-MAC Tourney honoree. Chepkevich notes that the 6'6 wing number among 64 seniors brought to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this spring. San Antonio was of course the headliner in this week's draft, as the team had the opportunity to select a potential generational talent, French big man Victor Wembanyama, with the top pick. The Spurs also added G League Ignite guard Sidy Cissoko in the second round. Courtesy of: hoopsrumors.com |
Knicks Decline Team Option For Derrick Rose - by Eurobasket News |
The New York Knicks have declined their $15.6 million team option for next season for Derrick Rose (6'3''-PG-1988, college: Memphis). Rose will now be an unrestricted free agent this summer. New York may still look to re-sign Rose on a much cheaper contract. Rose has been a respected locker room veteran for the Knicks over the last few seasons. By declining their option for Rose, New York will drop about $5.5 million below the luxury tax. That's likely to be only temporary, as Josh Hart is expected to decline his player option. Re-signing Hart will likely push the Knicks back over the tax line. Courtesy of: realgm.com |
Sources: Josh Hart, Knicks to extend player option deadline - by Eurobasket News |
Josh Hart (6'5''-G-1995, college: Villanova) and the New York Knicks have agreed to extend a midnight ET deadline on Saturday for his $12.9 million player option until Thursday, sources told ESPN. Hart, a priority to retain on a new deal, could opt in and extend off that salary number for next season or decline the option and become an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign a new deal with the Knicks or another team. An option for Hart that would deliver the Knicks cap flexibility would be an opt-in and extension off his $12.9 million for next season -- which he is eligible to do for up to 140% of that salary. This would give the Knicks access to using their full $12.4 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception. The Knicks have $149 million in guaranteed salary on the books for next season, which is $16 million below the luxury tax level. Hart, 28, was a revelation after coming over from Portland in a deal at the NBA's trade deadline, reuniting with fellow former Villanova star Jalen Brunson. Partnering with Immanuel Quickley to form one of the league's most potent second units, Hart shot a blistering 58% overall and 51.9% from 3-point range in 25 games as a Knick during the regular season. He was also a key part of New York's postseason run, fitting seamlessly into coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation. Hart is one of the best undersized rebounders in the league and he's capable of defending multiple positions. He's also a good facilitator and finisher at the rim; the hot shooting he flashed in New York was the missing piece to complete an all-around offensive game. The sixth-year pro has played on four teams across his NBA career, beginning with the Los Angeles Lakers before going to the New Orleans Pelicans for two-plus seasons and then spending a year -- across two seasons -- with Portland before being moved to New York.

It allowed Saigon Heat to consolidate first place in the Vietnamese league. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Saigon Heat already had a very good start winning all 4 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Barkley had a remarkable 64.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Saigon Heat, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Liberty Take It Outside in Win Over Atlanta, Ionescu's Return - by Eurobasket News |
Clear skies defined Atlanta's Friday weather forecast, but the New York Liberty brought rain to Gateway Center Arena at College Park. Facing the Atlanta Dream for the third time in a two-week span, the Liberty took the rubber match by a 110-80 final to open the weekend. New York sank 17 three-pointers (one short of the single-game WNBA record they tied last season) en route to a wire-to-wire victory and fourth in a row on the road. Six different New Yorkers hit at least one triple, paced by five off the bench for Marine Johannes (5'9''-G-1995). Former Georgian Betnijah Laney (6'0''-G-1993, college: Rutgers) led the Liberty with 19 points while Courtney Vandersloot (5'8''-PG-1989, college: Gonzaga) (16 points, 11 assists) and Breanna Stewart (6'4''-F-1994, college: UConn) (13 points, 11 rebounds) each registered double-doubles. Jonquel Jones fell one rebound short of a second straight double-double but got the Liberty (8-3) off to a torrid start with 13 of her 18 points coming in the first period alone. Friday marked Sabrina Ionescu's return to action after she missed the prior two games with a sore hamstring, earning eight points and six rebounds. Alas, New York was dealt a late injury scare when reserve interior prescience Stefanie Dolson (6'5''-C-1992, college: UConn) rolled her ankle in a collision with a teammate. Dolson required assistance to leave the floor. Rhyne Howard (6'2''-SF, college: Kentucky) was the leader for Atlanta (5-7) with 24 points in the struggle to protect its home court. New York has won both meetings at Gateway Arena this season while Atlanta took an 86-79 triumph at Barclays Center last week. One more meeting between the two teams awaits on July 27 in Brooklyn. In the meantime, the Liberty return to Brooklyn on Sunday against the Washington Mystics (1 p.m. ET, ABC) before embarking on a three-game road trip. Courtesy of: si.com |
