Kayil's 28 points give him Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
16-year old guard Jack Kayil (184-G-2006) put on an amazing game in the last round for second-ranked ALBA Berlin and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
He had the game-high 28 points adding five rebounds and three assists for ALBA Berlin in his team's victory, helping them to crush ratiopharm (#3, 1-2) with 19-point margin 99-80. ALBA Berlin was forced-out from the top positions in Adidas Next Generation Tournament Group A. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. ALBA Berlin will need more victories to improve their 2-1 record. In the team's last game Kayil had a remarkable 85.7% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. It's his second year at ALBA Berlin and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Kayil has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 19.0ppg) and averages solid 6.0spg,72.7% FGP and 62.5% from behind 3-point line.

Second best performed player last round was Eric Reibe (209-C-2006) of ratiopharm. He is a center in his first season at ratiopharm. In the last game Reibe recorded impressive 27 points and 7 rebounds. Bad luck as ratiopharm lost that game 80-99 to ALBA Berlin (2-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Reibe is a newcomer at ratiopharm and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.5ppg (#5). He also registered 6.0 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to center Ismaila Diagne (212-C-2006) of league's leader Real Madrid. Diagne scored 12 points and grabbed fifteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Real Madrid, leading his team to a 92-62 easy win against #4 ranked Milano in a game of the week. Real Madrid started extremely well this year. They recorded 3 victories without losing a single game in Group A. Diagne turns to be one of the very best players in the league while he is also a leader of the top team having his eyes on the championship title. Diagne has a great season in Adidas Next Generation Tournament. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.5rpg (#1 in league).

Other top performing players last week:

Matias Bernan claims Argentinian LDD Hoops Agents weekly honour - by Eurobasket News
Talented Matias Bernan (196-F-2001) had a great game in the last round for Independ.O. and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 24.
The 21-year old forward had the game-high 28 points adding eight rebounds and two assists for Independ.O. in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Boca Jrs. (#8, 10-8) 71-70. Independ.O. is placed at 6th position in Argentinian LDD. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Independ.O. will need more victories to improve their 10-6 record. In the team's last game Bernan had a remarkable 80.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Independ.O.'s top player in his first season with the team. Matias Bernan averages this season 14.1ppg and 5.4rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was forward Marcos Panozzo (195-F) of Comunicaciones. Panozzo impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Comunicaciones lost that game 69-75 to the higher-ranked Atenas (#9, 9-9). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Comunicaciones dropped in the standings to 18th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-13 record. Panozzo is a newcomer at Comunicaciones and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Augusto Morales (185-G-2003) of Olimpico (#17). Morales got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He was a key player of Olimpico, leading his team to a 72-68 win against slightly lower-ranked Union (#19, 5-13). The chances of Olimpico not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 10 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Morales could try to bring Olimpico's a little bit higher in the standings. Morales has a very solid season. In 14 games in Argentina he scored 12.4ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Juan Frigerio (170-PG-2003) of Platense - 23 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists

Shenzhen L. is placed at 4th position in Chinese league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Shenzhen L. will need more victories to improve their 17-11 record. In the team's last game Sullinger had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Shenzhen L. and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Ohio State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Sullinger leads league in rebounds with 12.5rpg. Sullinger is in league's top in and averages solid 54.2% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Kahlil Felder (175-PG-1995) of Shanxi L.. He is American guard in his second season at Shanxi L.. In the last game Felder recorded impressive double-double of 28 points and 13 assists. Of course he led Shanxi L. to another comfortable win 115-99 over the higher-ranked Shanghai S. (#7, 17-11) being unquestionably team leader. This victory allowed Shanxi L. to move up to 10th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 15-13 record is not bad and everything may still change. Felder is well-known at Shanxi L. and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.4ppg (#9). His other stats are also decent: 5.2rpg and 8.5apg.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Marko Todorovic (208-F-1992) of Ningbo R. (#20). Todorovic showcased his all-around game by recording 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the last round. Despite Todorovic's great performance Ningbo R. lost 103-113 to the higher-ranked Shanxi L. (#10, 15-13). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Todorovic has a very solid season. In 25 games in China he scored 14.0ppg. He also has 8.2rpg and FGP: 54.5%.

Other top performing players last week:

26-year old point guard Wade Baldwin IV (193-PG-1996) had a very impressive game in the last round for M.Tel-Aviv and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 20.
He had the game-high 33 points adding three rebounds and six assists for M.Tel-Aviv in his team's victory, helping them to beat ALBA (#18, 6-14) 87-74. M.Tel-Aviv maintains the 8th position in Euroleague . M.Tel-Aviv is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 11-9 record. In the team's last game Baldwin IV had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He turned to be M.Tel-Aviv's top player in his first season with the team. Vanderbilt University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Baldwin IV is in league's top in points (9th best: 15.3ppg).

Second best performed player last round was Brandon Davies (208-C-1991, agency: BeoBasket) of Milano. He is American-Ugandan center in his first season at Milano. In the last game Davies recorded impressive 26 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Milano lost that game 73-79 to slightly higher-ranked ASVEL (#16, 7-13). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Milano dropped in the standings to second-to-the-bottom (17th) position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-14 record. Davies is a newcomer at Milano and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to center Johnathan Motley (208-C-1995) of Fenerbahce (#4). Motley scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He was a key player of Fenerbahce, leading his team to a 98-94 win against slightly lower-ranked Monaco (#5, 12-8). Fenerbahce needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 13 victories and 7 lost games. Motley has a great season in Euroleague. After 17 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 6.6rpg (4th best).

4. Scottie Wilbekin (188-G-1993) of Fenerbahce - 21 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists

Marko Boksic Supplies The Money Ball In The Fourth Quarter Powering The Iserlohn Kangaroos Over The Dragons Rhondorf 74-68 - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber
The Dragons Rhondorf continue to search for consistency. The ex pro A team began the season strong winning 4 of their first 5 games and showing no remorse on the road but haven't been as lucky since mid November as since they have ridden a 5-4 record. They came into 2023 losing a tough nail bitter against Vechta 2, but last week found revenge against the RheinStars Cologne who had destroyed them at home 83-59. The Dragons continue to play with a 7 man rotation and so far everything is functioning. They met the 5-9 Iserlohn Kangaroos who had a positive 4-3 road record and were a way better team than what their record showed. They lost 3 very close games and played top team Sixers tough both times they met. It is no secret that the pro B is stuffed with many top guards and this weekend could have been the next great battle between Devon Goodman and Toni Prostran, but the latter had knee problems and couldn't play. But the guests didn't really need Prostran as they did fine without him playing tough for 3 quarters and then let Mr money ball Marko Boksic (203-PF-1993, agency: PEPI SPORT) take control in the fourth quarter and buckled down on defense to pull out the 74-68 victory. 'We played tough all game. We kept playing hard and once our shots started to fall, the basket began to look bigger. We did a good man taking Goodman away from his strengths and stayed consistent down the stretch', stressed Iserlohn guard Michael Cubbage. The Dragons Rhondorf had signed last season's top scorer Mubarak Salami, but he only played a minute and couldn't be a factor. The Dragons had problems taking care of the ball and executing consistently all night long that ultimately also cost them the game in crunch-time. 'Little mistakes brought us down and we just didn't execute well and sometimes forgot to play together as a team', stated Mubarak Salami.

The first quarter had 2 stories as the Dragons Rhondorf began with a huge run only to watch Iserlohn end the first quarter with a big run and led only 22-16. The Dragons Rhondorf jumped all over the Iserlohn Kangaroos and exploded to lead 17-4. The Dragons found their offense rhythm quickly playing sound inside out ball as Germans Florian Koch and Nicolas Buchholz nailed three's while Devon Goodman and Swedish youth national player Zaba Bangala scored in the paint. It also helped Rhondorf's cause that the guests suffered their fifth team foul at the 7,09 minute mark. Iserlohn was hectic in their sets and were forced to tough shots. But Iserlohn calmed down and started to attack the rim more getting easy baskets from Germans Patrick Tekka and Emil Loch. Iserlohn stepped up their defense and got easy baskets as well. The guests also got key three's from Germans Joshua Dahmen who is in his 15th season with the Kangaroos and from ex Ehingen forward Mathias Groh. Rhondorf got 2 key buckets from captain Paul Albrecht. The Dragons Rhondorf led 22-16 after 10 minutes. 'We began well sticking to the game plan, but then made concentration mistakes which helped make them strong', stated Mubarek Salami. The Dragons Rhondorf shot over 50% from the field and from outside and had 12 rebounds and 4 turnovers while the guests shot39% from the field and 25% from outside and had 7 rebounds and 4 turnovers.

The game remained a close battle in the second quarter despite the Dragons leading by 8 at one point could only lead by 3 at the break. Iserlohn began to attack the paint more aggressively getting three baskets in a row by German forward Elias Marei. The German big who is playing his fourth season in Iserlohn continues to make progress and gain minutes this season finishing with a double double of 10/10. Iserlohn stayed on the Dragon's tail 26-22, but the Dragons wouldn't give up the lead. They got consistent execution getting a lay in by Bangala and three's by Buchholz and Koch to lead 36-28. But the Dragons Rhondorf couldn't keep up the pressure and momentum caving in and allowing a brutal 12-2 run to let the guests take the 40-38 lead. Boksic was getting warmed up for his fourth quarter heroics scoring 5 points while Dahmen added a runner and American Michael Cubbage a trey. Rhondorf couldn't muster inside living off their three while Iserlohn did good work on the offensive board getting extra chances as well. Rhondorf closed out the second quarter on a high with 5 consecutive points as ex Giessen guard Florian Koch nailed a trey and Goodman made a lay in on transition. 'Iserlohn made a big comeback. We made turnovers which helped them get back into the game', added Mubarek Salami. The Dragons Rhondorf continued to shoot over 50% from the field and three point line and had 22 rebounds and 9 turnovers while Iserlohn shot 44% from the field and 29% from the three point line and had 14 rebounds and 4 turnovers.

The third quarter was a low scoring affair that showed Rhondorf lead briefly by 6 points, but couldn't capitalize on it. The first few minutes saw both teams not execute until Samuel Mpacko and Buchholz traded three pointers as Rhondorf led 46-43. Iserlohn then went on a mini run as Cubbage made a finger tip lay in and Loch made a tap in on the glass as Iserlohn led 47-46. Rhondorf then had a super spurt of 2 minutes going on a 9-2 run to lead 55-49. Florian Koch was really potent in the run with 7 points and displaying his knack of being able to score in bunches. With the exception of a Koch three pointer, the Dragons attacked the rim three times and were rewarded with 2 Koch lay ins, and a Florian Wendeler lay in. But once again the Dragons couldn't hold the lead and expand it. Instead they let Iserlohn break out a 6-0 run as Marei scored over Wendeler, Dahmen scored inside and Cabbage scored in the lane to tie the game at 55-55. Salami made a free throw giving Rhondorf the 56-55 advantage after 30 minutes. 'They didn't do anything special or different. We knew their game plan. We just had lapses in concentration and made so many little mistakes', added Mubarak Salami. 'We stayed cool and stuck to our principles. That helped us stay in the game', said Michael Cubbage. The Dragons Rhondorf shot 51% from the field and 41% from the parking lot and had 30 rebounds and 15 turnovers while the Iserlohn Kangaroos shot 41% from the field and 24% from the parking lot and had 24 rebounds and 9 turnovers.

In the fourth quarter the Iserlohn Kangaroos had to withstand a Paul Albrecht 4-0 run to start, but then took control and never looked back being able to control a close and tight game and let Marko Boksic do his magic. Boksic didn't waste anytime scoring 5 unanswered points to dead lock the contest at 60-60. The 5-0 run by Boksic turned into a 10-0 run as Cabbage added an off balance shot and free throw and Boksic struck again with a jumper as Rhondorf trailed 65-60. Iserlohn were calm and played their game while Rhondorf couldn't find a rhythm and couldn't tame the Boksic and Cabbage show. Bangala finally stopped the 10-0 run with a lay in to trail 65-62. But Boksic and Cabbage continued to execute scoring twice for the 69-63 lead. Goodman added a clutch trey to trail only 69-66. But Boksic then made the next money shot with a trey for the 72-66 lead with 47 seconds to play. 'My team wanted me to have the ball and put me into a situation that I feel comfortable with. That makes it so much easier', warned Marko Boksic. 'I know where Marko likes to have the ball. It took us a while to find the reads and when we did he hit big shots', added Michael Cubbage. Goodman added a quick lay in with 36 seconds to play to trail 72-68. But Iserlohn closed out the game with Boksic free throws. 'We have been lacking a defensive identity all season and are still trying to figure it out. But tonight our intensity allowed us to win this game', stated Michael Cubbage. 'We were too slow covering Boksic. He got stronger with every new shot that he made', said Mubarak Salami. The Iserlohn Kangaroos were led by Marko Boksic with 23 points. Michael Cubbage added 13 points and Elias Marei and Samuel Mpacko 10 points a piece while the Dragons Rhondorf were led by Florian Koch and Devon Goodman with 18 points a piece. Paul Albrecht added 12 points. The Iserlohn Kangaroos shot 43% from the field and 26% from outside and had 34 rebounds and 11 turnovers while the Dragons Rhondorf shot 45% from the field and 33% from outside and had 37 rebounds and 18 turnovers.

This victory allowed Pelita Jaya to move up to 7th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 2-1 record is not bad and everything may still change. Dhyaksa is well-known at Pelita Jaya and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.3ppg (#9). He also recorded 3.7 assists per game.

Third place about best performers goes to center Morakinyo Williams (209-C-1988) of Pacific Caesar (#11). Williams scored 24 points and grabbed fourteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Williams' great performance Pacific Caesar lost 78-89 to the higher-ranked Pelita Jaya (#7, 2-1). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Pacific Caesar not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 2 games, recording just one victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Williams could try to bring Pacific Caesar's a little bit higher in the standings. Williams has individually a great season in Indonesia. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.7ppg (8th best), rebounds with 12.7rpg (2nd best) and assists with 1.3apg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Randy Bell (193-PG-1998) of Bumi Borneo - 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists

25-year old power forward Devin Gilmore (200-F/C-1997) had a great game in the last round for league's best team Barsy Atyrau and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 9.
He had the game-high 28 points adding seven rebounds and three assists for Barsy Atyrau in his team's victory, helping them to beat Irbis (#4, 8-12) 77-71. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Barsy Atyrau to take over top position in the Kazakhstan league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Barsy Atyrau has a very solid 12-6 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Gilmore had a remarkable 90.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Barsy Atyrau's top player in his first season with the team. Murray State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Gilmore is in league's top in points (4th best: 16.8ppg), rebounds (8th best: 6.6rpg) and averages solid 61.2% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Joseph Allen (203-F/C-1995) of Aktobe. He is American forward in his first season at Aktobe. In the last game Allen recorded impressive double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as Aktobe lost that game 71-89 to slightly higher-ranked Astana (#3, 9-5). Aktobe are still at the very bottom. 15 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Aktobe managed to get this year. Allen is a newcomer at Aktobe and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Anton Bykov (200-F-1989) of league's second-best Tobol. Bykov scored 27 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was a key player of Tobol, leading his team to a 80-75 win against #4 ranked Irbis in a game of the week. Tobol needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 12 victories and 8 lost games. Bykov has a great season in Kazakhstan. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.4ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 8.9rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Daniil Posashkov (198-SF-2000) of Tobol - 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Robert Pan (202-C-1995) of Irbis - 21 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Markell Johnson (188-PG-1998) of Astana - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Vladimir Ivanov (208-C-1994) of Barsy Atyrau - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Shaim Kuanov (181-PG-1991) of Tobol - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Nikolay Bazhin (198-F-1990) of Irbis - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Kirill Gornaev (202-F/C-1996) of Tobol - 9 points and 18 rebounds

American Cliff Alexander (203-C/F-1995, agency: MSG) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Sagesse and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 16.
The 27-year old had a double-double of 34 points and twenty rebounds, while his team beat Hoops (#6, 5-8) 80-74. It allowed Sagesse to consolidate first place in the Lebanese LBL. Sagesse has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 13-1. In the team's last game Alexander had a remarkable 61.9% from 2-point range. He turned to be Sagesse's top player in his first season with the team. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American guard Myles Carter (185-G-1999) of Atlas. Carter impressed basketball fans with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Atlas lost that game 77-83 to slightly higher-ranked NSA (#8, 5-9). This loss caused Atlas to drop to 10th position in the standings. 10 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories Atlas managed to get this year. Carter is a newcomer at Atlas and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.1ppg (#6). His other stats are also decent: 7.8rpg and 4.3apg.

Raptors drop 106-104 decision to Boston - by Eurobasket News
The misery continues for the Toronto Raptors. Jaylen Brown scored 27 points to lift a Boston Celtics team missing leading scorer Jayson Tatum to a 106-104 victory over the Raptors - their ninth consecutive victory. Pascal Siakam had 29 points and 10 rebounds to top the Raptors (20-27), who lost their third straight, and third in a row to an undermanned team. The Raptors have lost four of five since recording their first three-game win streak of the season. 'It was really too much hit and miss,' coach Nick Nurse said. 'I think that's what I just talked to the guys about. There was a lot of times when we controlled the ball, pursued the ball, contested at the rim, blocked shots at the rim, etc. And then there's just too many times when it's a straight-line drive and a layup, right? We just can't give those up. 'So that part of just being much more solid, more consistent over the 48 I think is definitely a big part of it.' Gary Trent Jr. had 22 points, Precious Achiuwa finished with 17 points and 11 boards, and Scottie Barnes had 10 points. The Raptors' previous two losses came against short-handed teams: a 130-122 defeat Tuesday to a Milwaukee squad minus superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, and then a 128-126 loss Thursday against a Timberwolves team that was missing Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, and had played at altitude in Denver a night earlier. 'It's tough, it's hard,' Siakam said. 'There's so many of those games where I felt we did a lot, a lot of good things, couple of mistakes here and there and you pay for it. It sucks.' Tatum, the league's third-leading scorer and an MVP candidate, sat out Saturday with a wrist injury. The Celtics injury woes worsened when they lost both Marcus Smart (right ankle sprain) and Robert Williams (hyperextended knee) in the first half. Smart, who had two points and four assists, rolled his ankle making a cut, and gestured immediately for medical help when he fell, pointing to his foot. 'To win in the NBA is hard enough, to win on the road down a bunch of guys is hard to do,' Brown said. 'You don't want to take it for granted, but we definitely have enough on this team, enough in this locker-room to win games whoever is on the floor.' The Raptors, who were missing all-star guard Fred VanVleet (rib soreness), can't say the same. The Raptors also lost O.G. Anunoby, who had 12 points before leaving the game three-and-a-half minutes into the fourth quarter after jamming his foot. The Raptors initially said he was available to return, but medical staff advised against it. Nurse said VanVleet was injured against Atlanta a week earlier, and that he's 'questionable' for Sunday. Other than an early 11-point lead for Toronto, the game was a tight back-and-forth battle. The Raptors opened the fourth quarter clutching a four-point advantage, but Payton Pritchard's third three-pointer of the final frame opened up an eight-point gap for Boston with 5:53 to play. The Scotiabank Arena crowd erupted when Trent's three-pointer, his second in a minute-and-a-half, tied the game at 103-103 with 2:23 to play. But Pritchard replied with his fourth long bomb to put Boston (35-12) back on top. A Siakam free throw made it a two-point game and then, with the crowd on its feet, Trent missed a basket but stole the ball off Pritchard with 14.1 seconds left. A frantic few final seconds saw Raptors coach Nick Nurse livid at a jump ball call with 8.6 seconds to play. Toronto gained possession with 3.1 seconds left, but Siakam turned the ball over to send the fans home unhappy. 'It says a lot about our team,' Boston coach Joe Mazzulla said of his team's short-handed victory. Thad Young's hook shot capped a Raptors' 15-4 run that gave Toronto an 11-point lead with 2:30 left in the first quarter. But the Celtics replied with a 12-2 run to pull to within 27-26 heading into the second. The see-saw second quarter saw the lead change hands eight times, before a 9-0 run by Toronto late in the half. The Raptors went into the halftime break up 57-50. A pair of consecutive Brogdon three-pointers sliced Toronto's advantage to just a point with 2:04 left in the third quarter. The Raptors took an 85-81 lead into the fourth.

Warriors avoid fourth-quarter collapse, beat Cavaliers 120-114 - by Eurobasket News
Friday's matchup against the Cavaliers had all the makings to be a throwaway game for the Warriors. Golden State had a quick turnaround from a stinging overtime loss the night before in Boston and sat four of its five starters, including Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. The diminished roster had the Warriors entering as 11.5-point underdogs. But the undermanned Warriors defeated the odds - and the Cavaliers - and pulled out a 120-114 win to bring Golden State back to .500 on the season. The Warriors' hot shooting propelled them ahead by as many as 20 points in the third quarter. But as the fourth quarter wound down, the visitors found their once comfortable double-digit lead shrink to a two-possession game. After shooting 60.6% from 3 through the first three quarters, Golden State cooled off in the fourth and the Cavaliers, owners of the second-best defensive rating in the league this season, took advantage. Cleveland rallied for an 8-0 run to trim the Warriors' lead to four with about two minutes remaining. But on the Warriors' next possession, Ty Jerome (6'5''-G/F-1997, college: Virginia) knocked down a step-back, fadeaway 3-pointer to put Golden State up seven again with 1:39 left. 'I think that was the shot of the game,' coach Steve Kerr said. Golden State managed to hold on from there, avoiding a fourth-quarter collapse like the one they suffered the night before at the hands of the Celtics. 'We didn't exactly slam the door shut but we closed it gently,' Kerr said. 'We got it done, we had some turnovers down the stretch but we also made some big, big plays and got some big stops. That alone was tremendous.' Six Warriors players finished in double figure scoring and knocked down two or more 3s. Jordan Poole (6'4''-SG-1999, college: Michigan) led the way with 32 points while shooting 10-for-23 from the field and 5-of-12 from 3. Jerome added a season-high 22 points and eight assists, and Donte DiVincenzo ended the night with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals en route to the Warriors' sixth road win of the season. With Curry, Klay Thompson, Green and Andrew Wiggins all sidelined for the second night of a back-to-back, the returns of Jonathan Kuminga (6'7''-F-2002, agency: Verus Management), who missed eight games with a sprained foot, and JaMychal Green, who was out even longer after catching COVID and suffering a leg infection, helped the Warriors' cause. Kuminga had 10 points and five assists, while Green contributed 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Even with Curry and Thompson on the bench in street clothes, Golden State did damage outside the arc, draining a season-high 14 3-pointers in the first half to take a 64-59 halftime lead. The Warriors, who converted on 23 of their 43 attempts from beyond the arc, knocked down nine more 3s than the Cavaliers, who shot 50% from the field. 'We all were a little upset after Boston last night. Even the guys that didn't play because we won the game and we gave it away,' Jerome said. Friday's win was 'important becuase you don't want to go two games under .500 in the West right now. I just think we all came up ready to play and you know, when guys aren't playing, everyone's working, we still expect to win.' The Warriors are 23-23 this season and closed out this road trip going 3-2. 'It was a great, great week,' Kerr said. 'I'm really hoping that this is kind of the boost we've been looking for.' Golden State will return home to play the Brooklyn Nets at Chase Center on Sunday.

The Lakers trailed 114-107 before outscoring the Grizzlies 15-7 the rest of the way. Schroeder, who scored 19 points, stole the ball from Desmond Bane (6'6''-G-1998, college: TCU) near halfcourt and made a layup while being fouled by Bane to tie it at 120. Schoeder then made a free throw for the lead. After a timeout, Memphis' Brandon Clarke (6'8''-PF-1996, college: Gonzaga) was fouled with 1.9 seconds remaining. He made the first, but missed the second. Bane got the offensive rebound, but lost control of it to give the Lakers possession with 0.4 seconds left. Russell Westbrook led the Lakers with 29 points and LeBron James (6'8''-SF-1984) added 23. Ja Morant (6'3''-G-1999, college: Murray St.) led Memphis with 22 points. Clarke and Tyus Jones (6'1''-PG-1996, college: Duke) added 20 apiece, and Steven Adams had 16 points and 17 rebounds. Morant missed his first five shots and was 2 of 10 with six points in the first half before he had a heated courtside conversation with Shannon Sharpe - the Pro Football Hall of Famer and Fox Sports personality - before halftime. Morant had 14 points in the third quarter and the Grizzlies had a 13-point lead late in the period.

Lightning can't strike the Five as Sudbury takes win 86-83 - by Eurobasket News
The Sudbury Five took the flash out of the Lightning in an action-packed back and forth with London on Jan. 19 at Budweiser Gardens, taking the win with a final score of 86-83. The first quarter was a busy one with both clubs taking their turn at three point jump shots with Sudbury finding early success, taking the game to 9-0 at the 10 minute mark. But with Jeremy Harris (6'7''-G-1996, college: Buffalo), JD Miller (6'8''-F-1996, college: TCU), and twice Darohn Scott (6'9''-C-1996, college: CMU), serving fouls and offering up free throws to London, that scoring was countered later with a free-throw one pointer by later a jump shot from the Lightning's Chris Jones, and by the end of the first, the constant net action left the game at 21-18 going into the second quarter. Even with player changeups for the Five, it wasn't enough to stop the Lightning from creeping closer to tying the score, and by 10:23 in the second, overtaking them 26-24. The Five continued their press and though there was a constant counter from the Lightning, Sudbury managed to bring the score to 48-35. Then a dunk at 11:42 in the third bulked that led to 50-35 Sudbury, and though they managed to hold the score for most of the quarter, Sudbury brought their score to 65 by the end, but the Lightning came up with 61 points. Again in the fourth, a feverish back and forth as bench changeups for both sides lead to desperate shots until Jaylen Bland (6'4''-G-1993, college: UC Riverside) made a three pointer to take the score to 70 for Sudbury, and a timeout for London. After returning to play, the scoring broke loose for the Five, with the score rising to 76 before a counter from the Lightning. But another foul, and another player changeup brought fresh new advantages, and the almost constant back and forth resulted in a hard earned 86-83 win over the London Lightning. The Sudbury Five next play the Windsor Express at 7 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the WFCU Arena.

No. 5 UCLA beats Arizona State 75-62 for 14th straight win - by Eurobasket News
Tyger Campbell (5'11''-PG-2000) matched a season high with 22 points, David Singleton (6'4''-G-1999) had a season-high 21 and No. 5 UCLA extended its winning streak to 14 games, beating Arizona State 74-62 on Thursday night. Jamie Jaquez, bothered by foul trouble, scored five of his 12 points in the final 2 1/2 minutes as the Bruins took control. UCLA closed on a 16-2 run after Frankie Collins' 3-pointer with 6:13 remaining gave Arizona State a 60-58 lead. 'If you are going to win conferences, you have to win tough games against good teams,' UCLA coach Mick Cronin said. 'We just have great character. Tyger Campbell is just such a tough winner. I had to put the ball in his hands tonight because the pressure and their style defensively, especially tonight ... it was hard to run anything. It's hard to complete a pass.' The Bruins (17-2, 8-0 Pac-12) overcame a six-point deficit in the final 11 minutes and opened a two-game lead in the conference standings over Arizona State (15-4, 6-2), which had won four in a row. 'I just go out and try to win and take what the defense gives me,' said Campbell, who was 7 of 11 from the field and made 8 of 9 free throws. 'Jaime got a couple of quick fouls, so I kind of had to look for my shot a little more.' UCLA has the third-longest active Division I winning streak, behind No. 18 Charleston (19) and No. 24 Florida Atlantic (17). The Bruins have not lost since falling 80-75 to Baylor on Nov. 20 in the Las Vegas Main Event. They lost to Illinois in Vegas two days before. 'It's been fun flying under the radar the last couple of months,' Cronin said. 'Because of what happened in Vegas, I think people gave up on us.' Desmond Cambridge Jr. (6'4''-G) Jr. had 15 points and DJ Horne (6'1''-G) scored all 14 of his points in the final half for Arizona State. Warren Washington had nine points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Arizona State was off to its best Pac-12 start in 41 seasons. UCLA shot 50% from the floor, 60.7% in the second half. Singleton had 13 points in the second half. 'I'm not saying we're unbeatable, but we're always going to have confidence and stay connected,' Singleton said. 'Everyone is telling me to keep shooting it. The game plan was to hit the open guy, and I just happened to be the open guy tonight.' Cambridge followed a steal and 360-degree dunk with a 3-pointer from the right baseline for a 48-42 lead with 14:09 remaining, the biggest lead for either team to that point. There were 14 lead changes and eight ties, and neither team led by more than six until late. 'This tells us any given night we can lace them up and play with anybody,' DJ Horne said. 'It was a different flow in the second half. I think they made some defensive adjustments.'

Cair 2030 Skopje inks Hristijan Nastovski - by Darko Najdovski
Cair-2030-Skopje (Prva Liga) agreed terms with 19-year old Hristijan Nastovski (2004). Nastovski played last season at KK MZT Skopje Uni Banka. In 17 Prva Liga games he had just 2.7ppg and 1.7rpg. He was a member of North Macedonian U18 National Team two years ago. It is a nice chance for Nastovski to play more competitive league and get more exposure. On the other hand Cair gives chance to youth so the trend continues.

Serbian Power forward Milivoje Mijovic (200-PF-1991, agency: 011 Sports) had an amazing evening in the last round for Craiova, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 16.
The 31-year old player had a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Ploiesti CSM (#6, 8-7) 71-61. Craiova is placed at 5th position in Romanian Liga Nationala. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Craiova will need more victories to improve their 8-6 record. In the team's last game Mijovic had a remarkable 62.5% from 2-point range. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Milivoje Mijovic averages this season 11.9ppg and 5.7rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Serbian Strahinja Jovanovic (185-PG-1996) of Steaua B.. Jovanovic had a very good evening with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists. Bad luck as Steaua B. was edged by the higher-ranked Timisoara (#1, 9-5) 88-84. Steaua B. managed to keep the same 6th spot in Group B. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-8 record. Jovanovic is a newcomer at Steaua B., but is already one of team's top players. EL SALVADOR
Salvadorean Liga Superior round 8 best performance: Karla Candelas - by Eurobasket News
Point guard Karla Candelas (172-PG-1988) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Santa Tecla Elite, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 34-year old player was the main contributor (10 points, nine rebounds and five assists) to her team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team Opico (#8, 0-7) with 22-point margin 64-42. It allowed Santa Tecla Elite to consolidate first place in the Salvadorean Liga Superior. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Santa Tecla Elite keeps a perfect 7-0 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Candelas as usually she does not deliver so high stats. Karla Candelas has solid league stats. She is in league's top in rebounds (7th best: 10.0rpg), assists (3rd best: 4.3apg) and averages impressive 1.7bpg and 5.0spg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Gracia Flamenco (173-PF-2000) of Santa Tecla F1. Flamenco had a very good evening with 19 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Of course she led Santa Tecla F1 to another comfortable win outscoring Opico (#8, 0-7) 107-34. This victory allowed Santa Tecla F1 to leave bottom place moving a little bit up to 7th position in the standings. 6 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Santa Tecla F1 managed to get this year. Flamenco is a newcomer at Santa Tecla F1 and despite she is not a team leader yet, every game she becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 6.0ppg (#8).

Third on the list of top players last round was another Santa Tecla F1's star - guard Andrea Garcia (160-PG-1998). Garcia scored 13 points and passed five assists. She was another key player of Santa Tecla F1, helping her team with a 107-34 easy win against Opico (#8, 0-7). Santa Tecla F1 can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-6 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Garcia has individually a great season in El Salvador. After only 3 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 5.3ppg (9th best) and assists with 4.0apg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Adriana Rivas (175-SG-1996) of Santa Tecla F1 - 7 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists

Williams' double-double lands her Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News

26-year old forward Zada Williams (188-F-1996) had an amazing evening in the last round for PAOK and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 16.
She had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, while her team beat Panathlitikos (#11, 4-12) 62-56. PAOK is placed at 4th position in Greek A1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. PAOK will need more victories to improve their 9-7 record. In the team's last game Williams had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. She turned to be PAOK's top player in her first season with the team. University of Florida graduate has very impressive stats this year. Williams is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 10.1rpg) and averages solid 1.1bpg and 52.4% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Destiny Campbell (185-F) of Eunikos. She is American forward in her first season at Eunikos. In the last game Campbell recorded impressive double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Of course Eunikos cruised to a 76-64 relatively comfortable win over slightly higher-ranked Proteas (#8, 7-9). Eunikos' 9th position in the standings has not changed. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 5-11 record. Campbell is a newcomer at Eunikos and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Nicolette Gilday (175-G-1992) of Proteas (#8). Gilday scored 27 points. Despite Gilday's great performance Proteas lost 64-76 to slightly lower-ranked Eunikos (#9, 5-11). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. Gilday has a great season in Greece. After 16 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.5ppg (2nd best) and assists with 4.7apg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Eleanna Christinaki (184-G/F-1996) of Panathinaikos - 22 points and 4 rebounds
5. Angela Tompkins (188-F-1991) of Panathlitikos - 9 points and 14 rebounds
6. Nausia Woolfolk (175-G-1998) of Esperides - 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Terae Briggs (190-F-1997) of Giannena - 15 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Sabrina Haines (178-G-1997) of Chania - 26 points and 4 rebounds
9. Valerie Higgins (185-G-1998) of Esperides - 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Davion Wingate (168-G) of Panathlitikos - 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Quay Miller (6'3''-C) had 26 points, Jaylyn Sherrod scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter and No. 24 Colorado beat California 73-66 on Friday for its seventh straight victory. Aaronette Vonleh (6'3''-C) gave Colorado a seven-point lead in the beginning of the third quarter but the Buffaloes went scoreless for the next four minutes as Cal tied it at 36-all. Colorado was held to nine points on 4-of-11 shooting in the third quarter but made 9 of 11 in the fourth in scoring 30 points. Sherrod's 3-pointer with 2:58 left in the fourth gave Colorado a 67-57 lead. The Buffaloes didn't make another field goal the rest of the way but went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. Vonleh finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for Colorado (15-3, 6-1 Pac-12). Sherrod, who leads the conference in assists with 5.5 per game, had three of Colorado's 13 assists on 26 baskets. Miller scored 11 of Colorado's opening 16 points and she finished the half with 14 points as the Buffaloes led 34-29. California stayed within reach by making 5 of 10 3-pointers. Evelien Lutje Schipholt scored 17 points for California (10-8, 1-6). Jayda Curry (5'6''-G) added 13 points and Ugonne Onyiah (6'3''-F) scored 10. Colorado jumped into the AP Top 25 poll after beating consecutive top-15 opponents. The Buffaloes continue their road trip at No. 4 Stanford on Sunday.

Elberg number one in Russian Superleague 1 for round 18 (by Hoops Agents) - by Eurobasket News
Guard Yana Elberg (177-G-2004) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Dynamo-Farm, receiving a Hoops Agents Superleague 1 Player of the Week award for round 18.
The 18-year old player was the main contributor (20 points, five rebounds and two assists) to her team's victory, helping them to beat UMMC Junior (#5, 13-5) 81-75. Dynamo-Farm is placed at 2nd position in Russian Superleague 1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Dynamo-Farm will need more victories to improve their 13-4 record. It's Elberg's second year at Dynamo-Farm and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Yana Elberg has solid league stats. She is in league's top in points (2nd best: 16.8ppg) and averages impressive 2.2spg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Ekaterina Terekhova (188-C-1990) of league's leader Chevakata. Terekhova had a very good evening with a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds. Bad luck as Chevakata lost that game 54-65 to slightly lower-ranked Kazanochka (#3, 13-5). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Chevakata still maintains its place as the top team in the standings, even despite this loss. It was just her team's 3rd loss this season, while they won 15 other games. Terekhova is one of the most experienced players at Chevakata and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was forward Ekaterina Kuznetsova (178-F-2000) of Dynamo-En.IVA (#9). Kuznetsova scored 24 points. Despite Kuznetsova's great performance Dynamo-En.IVA lost 57-60 to slightly lower-ranked Stavropol (#11, 3-13). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Dynamo-En.IVA not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 12 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of her teammates, Kuznetsova could try to bring Dynamo-En.IVA's a little bit higher in the standings. Kuznetsova has a very solid season. In 18 games in Russia she scored 12.3ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Anastasiia Bobrik (185-C-2001) of MBA-2 - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Alexandra Eliseeva (170-G-2005) of MBA-2 - 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Yulia Savukova (177-F-2006) of Runa - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Maria Sedykina (176-F/G-2004) of UMMC Junior - 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Ksenia Nesterova (195-C-1998) of Dynamo-Farm - 19 points and 12 rebounds
9. Valeria Yakovleva (187-C-2004) of MBA-2 - 13 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Eleonora Oleynikova (178-F-1998) of Runa - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists

Indiana Fever remove interim tag from general manager Lin Dunn - by Eurobasket News
There's no need for this to remain a temporary thing. The Indiana Fever removed the "interim" tag from general manager Lin Dunn 's title. Dunn has been with the Fever in some capacity for much of the past two decades. She was an assistant coach from 2004-07, then the head coach until 2014, including the 2012 WNBA championship. She came out of retirement and for the past year has been Indiana's interim general manager. She oversaw last year's WNBA Draft in which the Fever had four of the top 10 picks (No. 2 NaLyssa Smith, No. 4 Emily Engstler, No. 6 Lexie Hull and No. 10 Queen Egbo). The Fever hold the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, and all signs point to South Carolina's Aliyah Boston being that choice. The Fever have struggled in recent seasons, and Dunn oversaw a recent coaching change. Christie Sides was named coach in November. Dunn coach Purdue for nine seasons, leading it to the 1994 Final Four. She coached two other pro teams before joining the Fever's staff in 2004.
