A Little Love From Overseas For Lebron James From Joe Asberry - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber |
Joe Asberry is an American ex professional basketball player that really has seen it all from crime to drugs, but also played against legends like David Robinson (215-C-65, college: Navy), Gary Payton, Jason Kidd and Brian Shaw and was teammates with German legendary player Christian Welp. He had a 11 year professional career that saw him toil around in the minor leagues of Germany, but he belonged to the best in his day at that level. Since retiring from the game, he has been a spokesperson for young kids and drug prevention, guest speaker, worked in the Alba Berlin organization, been a master of ceremonies for UBC Hannover and been a mentor for young Americans coming overseas trying to live the dream of being a professional basketball player. Currently he works with young inspiring basketball kids and has his own podcast. He spoke to eurobasket about LeBron James (203-SF-1984) breaking the NBA scoring record formally held by Kareem Abdul Jabbar. LeBron James has beaten Kareem Abdul Jabbar's NBA all-time scoring record. Did you stay up to watch history? Miles, we all know you're THE MAN with the best Pro Basketball interviews in Europe, so I appreciate you. I didn't stay awake to watch King James break Kareem's record, but saw it the next day How does one put this record into perspective best? It stood almost 40 years? You can't put it into perspective. Scoring is so natural for him. He plays the game the right way, so for him to pass Kareem in scoring something that he didn't even try to do is crazy He scored 38 points in 26 minutes. Was it another normal day at the office? I don't think it was a normal day at the office. He probably said to himself before the game, I'm going to get this over with TONIGHT. I believe if he wanted to go out and get 100 and pressed it, the way Jordan,Kobe, and AI did, he would drop 100 pts How much is that ball going to be worth? That ball is going to sell for a few million easy Russell Westbrook made the pass. Do you think that in 20 years the pass could be remembered more than his triple doubles? Nobody will ever be able to take away from Westbrook those triple doubles, he makes it look so easy, I love his game His record breaking basket was a step back over Kenrich Williams. Is that the kind of shot you expected knowing the kind of player he is? Or would you have expected a dunk for the spectacular finish? His step back was sweet. It also looked "Big Dirk" like with the leg action. Miles, you know me ,I was PRAYING IT WAS GOING TO BE A DUNK! LOL There obviously is a lot of respect for Kareem, by the basketball world, but what would have happened on social media if Lebron had gotten the record with a sky hook shot? If King James would have broken that record with a hook shot, Labtops and phones would have EXPLODED Kareem is such a gentleman. You didn't grow up with him, but what does his legacy mean to younger guys? Can they even understand what that guy did? Let me tell the youth this, Kareem's hook was just like Big Dirk's 1 legged fade away, nobody could block it ,not even the "Jumping Joe" s of the world, dudes with legit 50 inch vertical leapers in their prime. My bad Miles, I slipped into my ego LOL! Lebron will have more than 40,000 points when it's all over. Back in 1984 people said it would never be broken? Will this record be broken? It's the evolution of basketball, I think 1 day, someone will Break Lebron's record. If Luka Doncic continues to play to 40 stays fit and becomes a physical specimen like Lebron, could he dethrone him? I love Luca Doncic's game, but he will NEVER be the type of physical specimen King James Is. Doncic became a pro at a very young age, so I think sooner or later, his body will break down, Nobody beats father time 1 on 1. Does this record finally give Lebron the GOAT status over Michael Jordan? In my opinon, LeBron James is now the Goat. No shade on MJ though, He is the reason me and a bunch of ALSO RAN'S were given the opportunity to get paid to play basketball overseas. So I'll always respect Mike. He was a scoring machine and a killer, King James can do EVERYTHING. It's scary to watch a man that size, shoot, dribble, and pass the way he does. He is the DEFINITION of TRIPLE THREAT FOR REAL. What is your favorite Lebron moment that you witnessed live or on TV? My favorite LeBron James moment was watching him beat Number 1 at the time Oak HIll Academy. I loved his dunks ,and I thought to myself, if I had a NBA Body like that at 17, my Head would have been so big, you couldn't fit me into a GYM. And after all these years, James remains Humble. That's what I love about him the most. A fool who played for me in the 6th division in Germany is dumb enough to say things like "I'm GREAT" That's not GREAT! That's DELUSIONAL.I won't say his name online though, that will make him famous ,like I AM! King James is GREAT And a worldwide superstar, and I appreciate him LOL! Shout out to Dru Joyce too, great player and great dude. Thanks Joe for the chat. |

Brandon Boyd gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN - by Eurobasket News
The 25-year old playmaker had the game-high 33 points adding seven rebounds and six assists for Arecibo in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Manati (#6, 11-25) with 27-point margin 107-80. Arecibo maintains the 3rd position in their group in Puerto Rican BSN. Arecibo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 18-18 record. In the team's last game Boyd had a remarkable seven three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He just recently signed at Arecibo, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Brandon Boyd averages this season 4.0ppg. The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was young American forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (201-F-1995) of second-ranked San German. Hollis-Jefferson impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 35 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as San German was edged by the lower-ranked Ponce (#5, 17-19) 92-88. San German managed to keep the same second spot in Group A. His team's 21-14 record is not bad at all. Hollis-Jefferson is one of the most experienced players at San German and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. The third best performed player last week was international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-G-1991, agency: Interperformances) of Ponce (#5). De Jesus showcased his all-around game by recording 29 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the last week. He was a key player of Ponce, leading his team to a 92-88 win against the higher-ranked San German (#2, 21-14). The chances of Ponce ranking at the top of Group A, however are very questionable as they have already lost 19 games, recording just seventeen victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, De Jesus could help Ponce to bring them higher in the standings. De Jesus has a great season in Puerto Rico. After 36 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 5.3apg (9th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-C/F-1994) of Fajardo - 22 points and 16 rebounds 5. Josue Erazo (204-C/F-1995) of San German - 20 points and 6 rebounds 6. Javier Mojica (189-SG-1984) of Bayamon - 24 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Ivan Gandia-Rosa (185-PG-1997) of Fajardo - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists 8. Isaiah Manderson (208-F/C-1994) of Carolina - 21 points and 5 rebounds 9. Thomas Robinson (208-C-1991) of Ponce - 23 points and 3 rebounds 10. Jamil Wilson (201-F-1990) of Ponce - 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Patroons return to Armory in must-win situation - by Eurobasket News |
The Albany Patroons need to win two days in a row at Washington Avenue Armory to keep their season alive and reach The Basketball League Finals. That's the situation the Patroons find themselves in following Thursday night's 108-86 loss at the St. Louis Griffins in Game 1 of the East Regional final. The best-of-3 series will continue at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Armory, followed by Game 3 at 7 p.m. Monday, if necessary. 'I feel good,' Patroons coach Derrick Rowland said. 'If they come to Albany and beat us, they deserve to move on. If they can beat us on our court, they deserve to move on. But I don't think that they can. I think that we can come back Sunday and Monday and turn this thing around and continue on. That's my feeling. That's my belief. A lot of my guys didn't play well (Thursday) and I think that will change.' The Patroons shot 33-for-92 (35.9 percent) from the field and 5-for-23 from 3-point range while suffering their first loss of the postseason. It was a dramatic decline from their East Conference final sweep of Newfoundland. In that series, the Patroons scored 134 points in Game 1 and 135 points in Game 2. 'We just didn't make shots,' Rowland said. 'That was the big difference for us. They were a better defensive team, but we missed layups and we didn't knock shots down.' Edward Dyson III (6'4''-F-1992, college: Austin Peay) shot 2-for-17, Arsenio Arrington (6'9''-PF-1996, college: Aquinas Coll.) was 5-for-16 and Trevis Wyche (6'1''-G-1995, college: St.Peter's) was 4-for-15. St. Louis held a 59-52 rebounding advantage and a 64-50 scoring edge in the paint. 'I think they just out-hustled and out-toughed us,' Rowland said. Rowland said the Patroons didn't adjust well to St. Louis' defensive pressure on the smaller court at Jennings (Mo.) Senior High School, the Griffins' home court. 'I think we'll have our advantage when we get back on our court,' Rowland said. 'It's hard to run anything because of the size of the floor (in St. Louis). It's just different.' Rowland said the Patroons wouldn't be able to practice Saturday at the Armory, which is booked with roller derby. Their fallback practice site is the Schenectady YMCA. Courtesy of: timesunion.com |

Kentrell Barkley gets MVP of the Week award for Vietnamese VBA - by Eurobasket News
The 26-year old swingman had a double-double of 42 points and eighteen rebounds, while his team beat Dragons (#7, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 97-91. It allowed Saigon Heat to jump to the first place in the Vietnamese VBA. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Saigon Heat won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Barkley had a remarkable 76.2% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Saigon Heat and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. East Carolina University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Barkley is in league's top in points (2nd best: 35.0ppg), rebounds (4th best: 17.0rpg), assists (2nd best: 8.0apg) and averages solid 78.1% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young Ukrainian forward Yevgen Sakhniuk (201-F-1995) of Dragons. Sakhniuk impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds. Bad luck as Dragons lost that game 91-97 to Saigon Heat (2-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Sakhniuk is one of the most experienced players at Dragons and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. The third best performed player last round was American Jeremy Smith (190-G-1991) of City Wings (#3). Smith showcased his all-around game by recording 28 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the last round. Despite Smith's great performance City Wings lost 77-80 to #2 ranked Warriors. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing City Wings needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 1 victory and 1 lost game. Smith has a great season in Vietnam. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 29.0ppg (3rd best), rebounds with 9.5rpg (8th best) and assists with 5.5apg (7th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Hassan Thomas (203-F-1996) of Saigon Heat - 28 points and 6 rebounds 5. Amir Williams (211-C-1992) of City Wings - 11 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Jermaine Marrow (183-PG-1997) of Dragons - 34 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists 7. Sameen Swint (193-G-1995) of Warriors - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists 8. John Fields (205-F/C-1988) of Warriors - 16 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists 9. Kiet Nguyen Anh (180-G-2002) of Dragons - 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Hung Dang Thai (185-G-1993) of Warriors - 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.

The 28-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and twelve rebounds, while her team edged out Vera Cruz (8-6) 75-74. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Santo Andre maintains the 4th position in Brazilian LBF. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Santo Andre will need more victories to improve their 8-6 record. In the team's last game Goncalves had a remarkable 72.7% from 2-point range. She has many years of experience at Santo Andre, through which she has constantly improved. Goncalves has impressive league stats. Moura impressed basketball fans with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course Sesi/Arara. cruised to a 68-61 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked LSB (#8, 3-11). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Ituano can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 3-11 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Rodrigues has individually a great season in Brazil. After 13 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 10.3ppg (9th best) and assists with 6.7apg (best passer). Other top performing players last week: 4. Salvadorean Liga Superior round 1 best performance: Valeria Castro - by Eurobasket News
Shooting guard Valeria Castro (170-SG-2001) had an amazing evening in the last round for top-ranked Panteras, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1. The 21-year old player was the main contributor (19 points, two rebounds and five assists) to her team's victory, helping them to outclass, the league's bottom-ranked team Thunder (#7, 0-1) with 77-point margin 109-32. It allowed Panteras to take over top position in the Salvadorean Liga Superior. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Panteras won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Castro had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. She just recently signed at Panteras and it was her first game, where she immediately became new team's leader. Valeria Castro has solid league stats. She is in league's top in points (4th best: 19.0ppg), assists (4th best: 5.0apg) and averages impressive 5.0spg and 66.7% FGP. The second best player in last round's games was Katherine Romero of Santa Emilia. Romero had a very good evening with a double-double of 25 points and 17 rebounds. Bad luck as Santa Emilia lost that game 61-77 to Teclenas (1-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Romero is one of the most experienced players at Santa Emilia and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.0ppg (#2). She also registered 17.0 boards per game. Third on the list of top players last round was another Panteras' star - guard Heimy Lopez (167-G-2004). Lopez scored 27 points. She was another key player of Panteras, helping her team with a 109-32 easy win against Thunder (#7, 0-1). Panteras has a very good start of the season. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Lopez also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. The season just started for Lopez as she played only first game. But it already looks like she can be another team's leader. Other top performing players last week: 4. Kryssia Urias (185-C-1994) of Teclenas - 20 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Abigail Abarca) of Panteras - 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists 6.
