  ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT
Nikola Topic claims Adidas Next Generation Tournament weekly honour - by Eurobasket News
Talented Nikola Topic (198-G-2005) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's leader Crvena Zvezda and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 13.
The 17-year old guard had the game-high 31 points adding eight rebounds and seven assists for Crvena Zvezda in his team's victory, helping them to beat Valencia (#3, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 84-71. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Crvena Zvezda to consolidate first place in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Crvena Zvezda won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Topic had a remarkable 63.6% from 2-point range. He turned to be Crvena Zvezda's top player in his first season with the team.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young guard Savo Drezgic (187-G-2006) of Partizan BG. Drezgic impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Partizan BG lost that game 64-73 to league's leader NGTB (#2, 2-0). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Partizan BG still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. 2 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Drezgic is a newcomer at Partizan BG and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Bogoljub Markovic (204-F-2005) of top-ranked Mega BG. Markovic scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was a key player of Mega BG, leading his team to a 103-58 easy win against #3 ranked Venice U18. Mega BG has a very good start of the season. But there were just 2 games played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Markovic also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. The season just started for Markovic as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Noa Essengue (196-G-2006) of PFYM INSEP - 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Sergio de Larrea (197-F-2005) of Valencia - 19 points, 2 rebounds and 8 assists
6. Andrej Musicki (186-G-2005) of Mega BG - 11 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists
7. Filip Jovic (204-F-2005) of Mega BG - 20 points
8. Maxim Logue (203-F-2005) of PFYM INSEP - 11 points and 8 rebounds
9. Nikas Stuknys (194-G-2005) of NGTB - 6 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists
10. Pavle Misic (208-C-2005) of Crvena Zvezda - 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The Player of the Week awards are presented by Hoops Agents. Hoops Agents is the most complete website about the agencies and players they represent. With more than twenty years of experience, Hoops Agents is already recognized as the most reliable destination for the players who wish to continue their career in professional basketball and are searching for a reputable and connected representation. Austrian BSL round 6 (Second Stage) best performance: Rob Howard - by Eurobasket News

American Forward Rob Howard (203-F-1997, agency: One Motive Sports) had an amazing evening in the last round for Oberwart, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6 (Second Stage).
The 25-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, six rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Gmunden (#2, 23-5) 84-81. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Oberwart maintains the 4th position in Austrian BSL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier in Second Stage. Oberwart will need more victories to improve their 16-12 record. In the team's last game Howard had a remarkable 80.0% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Oberwart and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Rob Howard averages this season 11.2ppg and 7.2rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Montenegrin Milos Latkovic (196-SG-1993) of Kapfenberg. Latkovic had a very good evening with a double-double of 14 points and 16 assists. Of course he led Kapfenberg to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Furstenfeld (#10, 8-20) 101-71. Kapfenberg's 8th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 13-15 record. Latkovic is a newcomer at Kapfenberg and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was German guard Christian von Fintel (190-G-1990) of Wels (#3). von Fintel scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite von Fintel's great performance Wels lost 84-94 to #1 ranked Vienna. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Wels needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 17 victories and 11 lost games. von Fintel has a very solid season. In 27 games in Austria he scored 10.4ppg. He also has 4.3rpg and 3.0apg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Chris Vogt (213-C-1999) of Timberwolves - 17 points and 9 rebounds
5. Ilja Gromovs (211-C-1994) of Arkadia - 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Brad Greene (210-C-1998) of Kapfenberg - 19 points and 12 rebounds
7. Aristide Boya (216-F-1999) of Eisenstadt - 15 points and 18 rebounds
8. Nemanja Krstic (205-F-1993) of Kapfenberg - 24 points and 6 rebounds
9. Zach Cooks (175-PG) of UBSC Graz - 23 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Jozo Rados (206-C-1993) of Vienna - 16 points and 12 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.

27-year old swingman Andravious Smith (198-G/F-1995) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's best team San Salvador and receives a Hoops Agents Liga MB Player of the Week award for round 10.
He had a double-double of 34 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Brujos (#7, 2-4) 78-68. It allowed San Salvador to consolidate first place in the Salvadorean Liga MB. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and San Salvador keeps a perfect 8-0 record. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable 65.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at San Salvador, being already a very valuable addition to the team. In the last game Moore recorded impressive double-double of 25 points and 18 rebounds. Of course he led Fantasmas to another comfortable win outscoring Chalchuapa (#10, 0-8) 105-79. This victory allowed Fantasmas to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-4 record. Moore is well-known at Fantasmas and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Gorg Alhag (190-SG-1997) of Chalchuapa (#10). Alhag scored 18 points and grabbed seventeen rebounds (!!!). Despite Alhag's great performance Chalchuapa lost 79-105 to the higher-ranked Fantasmas (#6, 3-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Chalchuapa can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 8 games. Too bad for Alhag he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Alhag has individually a great season in El Salvador. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.6rpg (8th best) and assists with 4.7apg (6th best). He got a double-double of 11 points and 13 assists, while his team beat Panathinaikos (#16, 11-21) 81-73. It allowed Olympiacos to consolidate first place in the Euroleague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Olympiacos has a very solid 23-9 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. It's Walkup's second year at Olympiacos and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Stephen F. Austin State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. He has had experience in countries like El Salvador and Bosnia. He recently played for the South Shore Monarchs (TBL) playing 8 games averaging 22.4ppg, 5.6rpg, 4.3apg, 1.6spg, FGP: 50.8%, 3PT: 35.0%, FT: 83.3%. He began his basketball career at Clinton Community College and also played two years at Salem University (NCAA2). This season he teams up with Miles Schmidt-Scheuber with weekly chats about his basketball season.

You closed out the regular season with a tough 31 point loss to undefeated Pully. How tough was this loss considering you arrived into the game having won 8 of 9 games.?

The toughest part of the game was the fact that we played such a great first half but didn't play for 40 mins and things got out of hand quick .

There was a reason why Pully was 22-0. What made their defense so tough? They forced you to 32 turnovers.

They played great defense credit to the team that didn't lose a game all season.

Can you ever remember having 32 turnovers as a team in a game in your career?

Honestly no I can't say I do and hopefully in our case that will be the last.

Talk a little about the 40 minutes. Was this game decided early and gave the team the most problems defensively with them?

In the first half it was looking like a great game. Second half we started flat and they jumped to a 10 pt lead early and from there it was finished. They also got to the free throw line at ease.

How tough is it seeing the opponent get twice as many free passes?

I will just say it was tough game. We felt as if we were being just as aggressive as the other team. Those things are not in our control.

You had a tough game with 14 points and 9 turnovers. Is this game that you will watch over and over?

This is a game I will watch. I will take the good with the bad but I will not dwell. We have been having a great season and we know what we are capable of. My performance was not good enough to get this win.

How do you feel will you be able to learn from this game best after having had 9 turnovers?

I will look back and see what I did wrong a few inbounds mistakes making the wrong reads . It's embarrassing to have this kind of game but it's a learning experience.

What is next for Wallabies? Are the playoffs coming or are you already thinking about your next move as a player?

We have playoffs starting this week. We fought our way up to be a 6 seed and we are happy to be competing for a championship.

Thanks Chris for the chat.

Zivanovic had a very good evening with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Of course he led Mornar to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Danilovgrad (#11, 3-14) 108-77. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Mornar keeps 9th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-9 record. Zivanovic is one of the most experienced players at Mornar and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.6ppg (#7). His other stats are also decent: 4.6rpg and 3.7apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was international guard Luka Bogavac (195-G-2003) of league's top team Podgorica. Bogavac got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for eight assists. Despite Bogavac's great performance Podgorica lost 90-94 to #2 ranked Sutjeska. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Podgorica needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 14 victories and 4 lost games. Bogavac has a very solid season. In 12 games in Montenegro he scored 15.3ppg. He also has 3.9apg and FGP: 56.9%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Marko Koljevic (191-G-1990) of Decic - 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Nemanja Knezevic (196-F-1997) of Jedinstvo - 27 points and 5 rebounds
6. Nenad Vukovic (192-PG-1994) of Jedinstvo - 31 points and 4 rebounds
7. Elyjah Williams (201-F) of Decic - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists
8. Nikola Rakocevic (200-F-2002) of Mornar - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Michael Weathers (190-G-1997) of Sutjeska - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Vasilije Jovovic (185-SG-1997) of Danilovgrad - 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists

NBA, NBPA agree on new 7-year collective bargaining agreement - by Eurobasket News
The NBA and National Basketball Players Association have reached agreement on a new seven-year collective bargaining agreement, promising labor peace through the rest of the decade, sources told ESPN early Saturday morning. The tentative deal, which starts with the 2023-24 season, was announced by the league and union and is expected to be ratified by league governors and players in the coming weeks. The deal includes a mutual opt-out after the sixth year, sources told ESPN. The agreement landed early Saturday morning after both sides agreed to extend a midnight ET deadline for the league to opt out of the final year of the previous CBA. NBA commissioner Adam Silver, NBPA executive director Tamika Tremaglio and negotiators on both sides -- including the NBA's Dan Rube and the union's Ron Klempner -- hammered out remaining details on the agreement, sources said. After two extensions of the early opt-out deadline, the league's negotiations with Tremaglio and new NBPA president CJ McCollum delivered a deal months ahead of a possible work stoppage. Among the key initial elements of the deal described to ESPN:
- The NBA is curbing the ability of the highest-spending teams, such as the Golden State Warriors and the LA Clippers, to continue running up salary and luxury tax spending while still maintaining mechanisms to add talent to the roster. The NBA is implementing a second salary cap apron -- $17.5 million over the tax line -- and those teams will no longer have access to the taxpayer mid-level in free agency. Those changes will be eased into the salary cap over a period of years. Under these changes, Golden State's Donte DiVincenzo, Milwaukee's Joe Ingles, Boston's Danilo Gallinari and former Clippers guard John Wall wouldn't have been able to sign with those teams last summer. As a counter to those spending limitations, the new CBA is expected to create more spending and trade opportunities for teams at the middle and lower spectrum of spending. There will be an opening of more opportunities in the free agent market, including larger trade exceptions.
- In an attempt to curb load management and lost games among star players, the NBA is tying eligibility for postseason awards -- such as All-NBA teams and MVP -- to a mandatory 65 games played. The 65-game minimum does come with some conditions.
- The in-season tournament could arrive as soon as the 2023-24 season. The event will include pool-play games baked into the regular-season schedule starting in November -- with eight teams advancing to a single-elimination tournament in December. The Final Four will be held at a neutral site, with Las Vegas prominent in the discussion, sources said.
Each in-season tournament game would count toward regular-season standings; the two finalists would ultimately play 83 regular-season games. Winning players and coaches will earn additional prize money.
- The NBA and NBPA have agreed to increase the upper limits on extensions from a 120% increase on a current deal to 140%, which could have a significant impact on the futures of stars like Celtics forward Jaylen Brown.
Under the current rules, Brown would be allowed to sign a four-year extension worth $165 million. With the extension rules increased to 140%, however, Brown -- who is set to earn $31.8 million in the 2023-24 season, the final year of his current contract -- would be able to reach his four-year maximum of $189 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. Similarly, Sacramento Kings All-Star center Domantas Sabonis could currently sign a four-year, $111 million extension -- one that jumps up to $121 million with the increase to 140%. There is an increase in two-way contract slots, jumping from two to three per team. Two-way contracts were created in the 2017 collective bargaining agreement as a vehicle for teams to develop younger players. It has been seen as a success, as it's become a route to players earning long-term homes in the league, and in several cases becoming major contributors. Some of the biggest success stories to emerge from the two-way pipeline include: Austin Reaves and Alex Caruso with the Los Angeles Lakers; Duncan Robinson and Max Strus with the Miami Heat; Anthony Lamb with the Warriors; Jose Alvarado with the New Orleans Pelicans; and Luguentz Dort with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Phoenix Suns hold Denver Nuggets for a 100-93 win - by Eurobasket News
Though it wasn't exactly easy all the way through, the Phoenix Suns emerged victorious in 100-93 fashion over the Denver Nuggets. The win pushes Phoenix's winning streak to four games. With a 42-35 record, the Suns still maintain sole possession of the No. 4 seed in the West. After having strung together their own four-game winning streak, the No. 1 seeded Nuggets have lost back-to-back games. Denver rolled into the desert severely undermanned, with Nikola Jokic (7'0''-C-1995) (calf), Jamal Murray (6'4''-SG-1997, college: Kentucky) (knee), Michael Porter Jr. (6'10''-PF-1998, college: Missouri) (heel) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (6'5''-G-1993, college: Georgia) (non-COVID) all out. Phoenix had a completely clean injury report. The Suns got up by as much as 27 in a game that had no business being close. Slowly but surely the Nuggets chipped into the Phoenix lead, which eventually dwindled down to four points in the late fourth quarter. After the win over Minnesota, Devin Booker (6'6''-SG-1996, college: Kentucky) talked about Kevin Durant (6'9''-SF-1988, college: Texas)'s how he opens up the court for everybody else. 'Yeah, it is completely different It frees up Chris (Paul) a lot. It is going to be hard for guys to pick him up 94 feet all the time. It relieves pressure for everybody," he said. The Booker-Durant duo combined for 57 points on the evening. Denver shot a dismal 23.1% from downtown while only hitting 11 of their 20 free throws, though they did outscore the Suns 62-36 in the paint. Phoenix is back in action on Sunday when they visit the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 4:00 PM PST start.

Lakers overtake Timberwolves in standings with 123-111 win - by Eurobasket News
Anthony Davis (6'10''-C-1993, college: Kentucky) scored 17 of his 38 points in the fourth quarter and had 17 rebounds to lift the Los Angeles Lakers past Minnesota 123-111 and leapfrog the Timberwolves on Friday night in the crowded Western Conference playoff race. 'You've got to have that one pivotal force that's leading the charge, and in our case with this particular team here in the moment it's AD,' Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. 'When he comes out and he's aggressive and we're feeding him and he's not settling and he's putting pressure on the paint, putting pressure on the rim, we find ourselves having a lot of success.' LeBron James (6'8''-SF-1984) added 18 points and 10 rebounds and D'Angelo Russell (6'5''-SG-1996, college: Ohio St.) had 12 points and 10 assists against his former team as the Lakers (39-38) won for the fifth time in six games to move into seventh place. They're even with New Orleans, owning the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Pelicans. 'We've made some huge climbs, but we're not finished,' said Davis, who had 38 points Wednesday in tthe win at Chicago. 'We're hungry to not only make the playoffs but make some noise.' The Lakers improved to 9-4 since losing at home to the Wolves on March 3. 'We jumped on AD's back, and he brought us home,' James said. Mike Conley (6'1''-PG-1987, college: Ohio St.) had 25 points on 7-for-11 shooting with seven assists before fouling out, and Karl-Anthony Towns (7'0''-F/C-1995, college: Kentucky) scored 23 points for the Timberwolves (39-39), who tumbled into ninth place. They entered the evening one game behind Golden State and the cut to avoid the play-in tournament, with the Warriors tipping off later at home against San Antonio. Davis scored 12 straight points for the Lakers over a 3:52 span late in the fourth quarter to seal the steely comeback from a deficit that hit 13 points shortly after halftime. He made five baskets in a row with Wolves center Rudy Gobert (7'1''-C-1992) on the bench, dominating on the glass, in the post and at the rim. 'He's playing at a super high level right now,' Wolves coach Chris Finch said. The Lakers took charge earlier with a 24-2 spurt over a 6:49 stretch of the third quarter with their defense on lockdown mode. Conley's turn to rest on the bench during that run was ill-timed. Davis rolled his left ankle around the start of the Lakers surge, a breath-holding sequence that only seemed to energize the visitors. 'We started to turn the ball over, and the ball started to stick much more,' Gobert said. 'We kind of lost our flow offensively, and it really affected our defense.' The Wolves, whose bench was shortened without center Nazreon Reid (6'10''-C/F-1999, college: LSU) and his broken wrist, went 2 for 14 from 3-point range in the third quarter and were outscored 35-18 in a discouraging stretch for a fired-up crowd that included local sports superstars Justin Jefferson and Kirill Kaprizov in floor seats.

American Javon Greene (193-G-1999) put on an amazing game in the last round for LTH Castings and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 22.
The 23-year old guard had the game-high 36 points adding six rebounds for LTH Castings in his team's victory, helping them to beat Terme Olimia (#4, 11-11) 93-80. LTH Castings is placed at 8th position in Slovenian Liga Nova KBM. LTH Castings is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 7-15 record. In the team's last game Greene had a remarkable nine three-pointers out of 14 attempts. He turned to be LTH Castings' top player in his first season with the team. Javon Greene averages this season 15.3ppg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young guard Jan Copot (199-G-2001) of Zlatorog. Copot impressed basketball fans with 32 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Of course he led Zlatorog to another comfortable win outscoring the higher-ranked Ilirija (#7, 9-13) 90-64. Zlatorog's 10th position in the standings has not changed. 16 lost games are too many comparing to just six victories Zlatorog managed to get this year. Christopher Miller (192-G-1993, college: Salem) is a 29 year old 193cm guard from Brooklyn, New York who is playing his eighth professional season and first with GoldCoast Wallabies NLB (2nd League). He played 3 seasons with the Giessen Pointers (Germany-RegionalligaThis season for Bensheim he averaged 19,5ppg, 3,8rpg, 2,0apg and 1,5spg.

Burenko number one in Ukraine Superleague for round 24 - by Eurobasket News

International Point guard Pavlo Burenko (184-PG-1990, agency: BIG) had a great game in the last round for top-ranked Budivelnyk, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 24.
The 32-year old player was the main contributor (33 points, five rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Zaporizhye (#9, 3-26) 82-75. It allowed Budivelnyk to consolidate first place in the Ukrainian Superleague. Budivelnyk has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 28-1. In the team's last game Burenko had a remarkable 90.0% from 2-point range. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Pavlo Burenko has solid league stats. He is in league's top in assists (6th best: 4.4apg).

The second best player in last round's games was young Vladlen Berezhnyy (199-F-1995) of Polit-Halychyna. Berezhnyy had a very good evening with 30 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course Polit-Halychyna cruised to a 78-66 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Hoverla (#6, 9-21). Polit-Halychyna's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 15-14 record is not bad and everything may still change. Berezhnyy is a newcomer at Polit-Halychyna, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.4ppg (#8). He also registered 6.7 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was center Sergii Skira (210-C-2000) of Cherkasy (#7). Skira scored 21 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Cherkasy, leading his team to a 79-72 win against slightly higher-ranked Polit-Halychyna (#5, 15-14). Cherkasy can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 7-23 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Skira he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Skira has individually a great season in Ukraine. After 29 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.1rpg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Andriy Agafonov (208-F-1986) of BIPA O. - 20 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
5. BJ Maxwell (194-SG-1997) of Cherkasy - 31 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Stanislav Tymofeyenko (205-F-1989) of Dnipro - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Anton Musiyenko (192-G/F-1997) of Kyiv Basket - 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Maksym Zakurdaev (196-PG-1993) of Dnipro - 11 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists
9. Vadim Zaplotinskiy (200-F-1997) of Kyiv Basket - 18 points and 6 rebounds
10. Maksim Sandul (207-F/C-1991) of Budivelnyk - 11 points and 15 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.

Clark, Iowa end perfect South Carolina season in Final Four - by Eurobasket News
Caitlin Clark (6'0''-G-2001) tossed the ball high in the air as the clock ticked down, gave a huge shout-out to her adoring fans and then took off on a gleeful gallop around the court. In the biggest matchup of her life, the dazzling point guard from Iowa had done it all -- poured in 41 points to set a record for the highest-scoring NCAA Tournament semifinal, ended the perfect season of South Carolina and, most importantly, put her Hawkeyes into the championship game. Clark overwhelmed the reigning champions with another sensational show from start to finish, helping Iowa stop the Gamecocks' 42-game winning streak 77-73 on Friday night in the Final Four. 'We had nothing to lose. I have all the confidence in the world in this group, and they believe right back in me, and that's all you need,' Clark said. 'All we do is believe in one another and we love each other to death, and that's what a true team is. If you want an example of a team, that's what this is.' The spectacular junior became the first women's player to post back-to-back 40-point performances in the NCAA Tournament. She now has the Hawkeyes in a spot they've never been in before - one victory away from a national championship. They'll have to beat another SEC team to do that as Iowa (31-6) will face LSU in the title game on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers beat Virginia Tech in the other national semifinal. It's the Tigers' first appearance in the title game as Kim Mulkey became the second coach to take two different teams to the championship game. 'I love me some Caitlin Clark,' Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said. 'We've been talking about being mission-focused a lot this year, and we had a game plan and these guys executed so well. That is South Carolina we just beat, folks. Amazing.' Thanks to the riveting play of Clark and the historic year by South Carolina, this was one of the most talked about and highly anticipated matchups in women's Final Four history, The game lived up to the hype surrounding it- the best player vs. the best team - much to the delight of the sellout crowd of over 19,000 fans. 'Tonight showed how fun women's basketball is,' Clark said. 'I'm sure some people wished this was a series of seven games.' Coach Dawn Staley and South Carolina (36-1) had kept on winning since taking last year's title. 'I don't think we felt pressure to win the game, we just didn't perform,' Staley said. 'And that hasn't been us all season long.' 'I don't think our players felt pressure, any other pressures besides wanting to win another basketball game,' he said. This was Iowa's first appearance in the Final Four in 30 years. The last time the Hawkeyes advanced this far was 1993 and C. Vivian Stringer was the coach of that team that lost to Ohio State in overtime. Clark wowed the crowd that included Harper Stribe, a young fan of the team who has been battling cancer. She was featured in a surprise video that informed the Hawkeyes' star that she was the AP Player of the Year. Clark has created quite a stir since going to college in her home state. She led the nation in scoring twice and last weekend had a game for the ages, recording the first 40-point triple-double in NCAA history to lead the Hawkeyes to the Final Four. Now she has them on the doorstep of more history. Trailing 59-55 entering the fourth quarter, South Carolina scored the first five points to take the lead. Clark answered right back with two deep 3-pointers and an assist to Monika Czinano (6'3''-F/C) to give the Hawkeyes a 67-62 lead. South Carolina got within 69-68 on Raven Johnson (5'8''-G)'s 3-pointer before Clark got a steal for a layup with 3:32 left. Neither team scored again until star Aliyah Boston (6'5''-F-2001) was fouled with 1:37 left. She made the second of two free throws. Clark then scored another layup on the other end out of a timeout to make it a four-point game. After a layup by Zia Cooke (5'9''-G-2001) with 58 seconds left, the Hawkeyes ran the clock down with McKenna Warnock grabbing a huge offensive rebound off a Clark miss with 18 seconds remaining. Clark hit two free throws after South Carolina fouled her with 13.5 seconds left. They were her 38th and 39th point, moving her past Nneka Ogwumike for the most in a Final Four semifinal game. After a putback by Johnson with 9.9 seconds left got the Gamecocks within 75-73, Clark sealed the game with two more free throws. The loss ended a tremendous season for the defending champion Gamecocks, who were trying to become the 10th team to go through a season unbeaten. 'It was physical. You've got to give them a lot of credit,' Clark said. 'They're a tremendous team, they've had a tremendous year, obviously so well-coached.' Cooke led the Gamecocks with 24 points. Slowed by foul trouble, Boston had just eight points and 10 rebounds as the Hawkeyes packed the paint, brazenly daring South Carolina to shoot from the outside. The defense seemed to bamboozle the Gamecocks, who finished 4 for 20 from behind the 3-point line. They couldn't take advantage of their 49-25 rebounding edge that included 26 offensive boards.
